We don't need to buy back into draft. It ain't that strong this year. Our forward line issues can't be that bad - we won 14 matches under very difficult circumstances. The forward line will work itself out IMO - Daniher will be a star. And if they stop believing the notion that players like Davey, Jetta, Dell'Ollio etc are good for the team they can move on. Better off playing more mids like Geelong do.

We need to start thinking in terms of winning 17 + 3 games a year. I wouldn't want to be relying on amazing comebacks every third week in order to win that many games.

I don't disagree with the second half of that though.

The players are feeling good.. our list is in good shape.. we have great facilities and a top notch coaching crew still on board.
Good times ahead.

And these rumours about players breaking contracts.. I can pretty much confirm that NONE are our core players.. hearing rumours that there are a maximum of 5 players looking into this option (most could probably guess two of them!!) and mainly because they aren't getting opportunities..

Hooker, Carlisle, Ryder, Hurley, Crameri, Stanton, Hocking, Heppell, Goddard, Zaka, Hibberd, Melksham, Derpinator, Watson, Bag's, Winderlich, Myers are all LOCKED in... so that is well over half the team and most of the stars confirmed...

I am not saying these are the only ones.. but these are the ones I know have publicly and definitely reassured the club that they will be here next year and ready to take a crack at the flag.

I think there are still 10-12 AFL Clubs that would LOVE a crack at having our list..
You're spot on rines, Matty Lloyd was on 3aw last night and talked about a night they had at windy hill with past players and present players just for a bit of a boost of moral and he did say the players were untited and didn't sense no player backlash whatsoever.
Coming from Matty I believe cos he does shoot from the hip

Make no mistake, the AFL cares about protecting the integrity of the code, but does not care about the integrity of the processes used to protect the integrity of the code.
The word integrity is used far too often in this saga - particularly by the media and the AFL (the soapboxers) - in the context that Essendon has undermined the integrity of the competition / code and the AFL needed to act to protect the integrity of the competition / code.

The integrity of the competition is based on everyone playing by the rules and no-one having an unfair advantage. As long as we didn't cheat, the integrity of the competition is still intact and has not suffered one iota of damage.

Until the 'decision' last night, the ladder was uncompromised and teams would have been making or not making finals this season based purely on their merit. Now the ladder is artificially compromised and a team will make the finals without meriting such a reward, to the detriment of a team that has fairly earned the right to play finals by winning enough games. Is this a step forwards for the 'integrity' of the competition ? To have access to finals used to punish some for off-field issues and to consequently reward others ?

If the AFL had punished us for taking banned drugs, I could understand the argument about it acting to protect the integrity of the game - i.e. if it had levied punishment to show how taking banned drugs will not be tolerated - however it actually has punished us for poor governance.

The AFL's actions aren't about protecting the integrity of the competition / code - at best, they are about protecting its reputation / image.

There is a guy at the AFL that should be careful about telling things to friends, particularly about a certain AFL player's drug problem

Agreed - of all the rubbish peddled, punishing the 2013 campaign is the biggest joke.
And we're back to the same "Essendon will not lose points" article from The Australian in April:

www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/essendon-will-not-lose-points-this-season-afl-says/story-fnca0u4y-1226615259190 (this link works :))

Demetriou dismissed the suggestion that adverse findings would result in Essendon being docked points or deprived of a finals spot.

"There's no suggestion at all that Essendon in 2013 are involved in any use of anything that is being investigated, so they are fine," Demetriou said.

That suggests to me that the thinking was that you wouldn't lose this year's points unless you did the wrong thing this year.

I wonder what changed ?

Or you could say technically the fat **** was correct in that our points haven't been stripped, we have just been removed from the finals.

The same as the useless ****s at ASADA/WADA keep pumping out the same generic statement about AOD is banned under s0 blah blah blah without ever dealing with the Essendon issue specifically.

To go one further with technicalities, Hird has maintained that when the truth is out, both he and the club will be in a good place. Unfortunately we still don't know as EFC have never had their say properly yet, but the damage is already done. Which is very sad for all who love the club :(

Is it simply that he chose his words very carefully?

In other words, Essendon won't lose points, so they won't 'win' the wooden spoon.

But, we will disqualify them from playing in the finals all the same, as a unilateral measure.

EDIT: Looks like Stopher beat me to it.

AFL accepts role in supplements saga

The AFL has accepted it must take some responsibility in the Essendon supplements affair, admitting that earlier intervention and vigilance could have mitigated the damage for the club and competition.
In the fallout from the scandal, failings in the code more broadly – rather than solely at Essendon – have been highlighted by industry and employment law experts.
Essendon assistant coach Mark Thompson is one who has pointed a finger directly at the AFL and asserted that the governing body is hardly blameless.
On Wednesday, AFL deputy chief executive Gillon McLachlan conceded ‘‘that’s potentially true’’.
‘‘There’s a lot of things to learn out of this,’’ he said.
McLachlan referred to a meeting between AFL and Essendon officials in August 2011, where the dangers of peptide use in sport were discussed.
‘‘The fact that the club was warned I think is a credit to the AFL, and the fact that we’ve got an integrity program that is trying to be ahead of the curve. The fact potentially, though, that we weren’t out there regularly monitoring what was going on is potentially a failing of the AFL,’’ McLachlan told SEN radio.
‘‘I think there’s responsibility all round here and I don’t think we can shirk it in every instance.
‘I’m happy to take that on the chin in the sense that if we had gone out there (to Essendon) every month and monitored it, then maybe we wouldn’t be in situation, so I’ll take that.
‘‘I think in the end what’s happened here is incredibly regrettable for the players and for the competition. We have resolution, and if people need to take various forms of accountability, I’ll take that.’’
Veteran player agent Peter Jess, manager of Essendon captain Jobe Watson until this year, told Fairfax Media on Tuesday that the AFL was as culpable as the Bombers for the drug controversy that has marred the season.
Former politician and VFA footballer Phil Cleary is another who believes the crisis could have been averted if the AFL had enforced stricter occupational health and safety standards.
An alleged failure to provide a ‘‘safe workplace’’ for footballers at Essendon could allow players to terminate their contracts with the club, according to some employment law specialists, including Josh Bornstein, deputy chairman of Racing Victoria’s appeals board.
The AFL Players Association and the Australian Council of Trade Unions were reported to be in discussions at the weekend.
Jess told Fairfax Media that the August 2011 meeting of AFL and Essendon officials, where both parties acknowledge peptide use was discussed, was evidence the league should have monitored any Essendon sport-science program closely.
‘‘First and foremost, the AFL had intelligence that warned them that things were happening,’’ Jess said. ‘‘How did they follow up that meeting?
‘‘I think the AFL is as culpable as the club for not putting in processes to protect the players. They are mandated to ensure there’s a safe workplace.’’
Cleary says football has not had adequate systems in place to protect players from occupational health and safety hazards.
‘‘I don’t always want to be blaming people, but let’s face it, it’s a problem. It is a failing of the organisation without any shadow of a doubt,’’ he said.
‘‘The AFL and the AFLPA, they haven’t been tooled up for these matters. He said occupational health and safety experts should be employed at every AFL club.
A frequent critic of the AFL, Jess manages Essendon’s Nathan Lovett-Murray. He said Brownlow medallist Watson discussed the Bombers’ supplements program with him after it was revealed publicly.
While Essendon players, including Watson, have said they were convinced the program was entirely above board, Jess says that system must be acknowledged as imperfect.
‘‘The mantra up until now is that the club doctor was the person you could go to,’’ Jess said.
‘‘What we can conclude is that failed, and it will continue to fail because in most cases I think the AFL doctors, while their heart is in the right place, they’re often compromised.
‘‘The AFL is mandated to ensure that players have a safe workplace, and to have a safe workplace, it must have a process of being monitored on a regular basis. If that system had been in place, we wouldn’t have this outcome."
Ah the painful irony in this article and rompinwinssibling's responses. If I could be bothered to sum up the energy, I'd be pissy about this. So what accountability have you taken Gil, you git?

Well there has been a positive to this being potentially over.

Today I have not felt compelled to listen to SEN after 9am in case something happens.
No listening to that self inflated ****stick Phatprick getting his pebbles off listening to his own voice discussing our Club.

And I did get a little work done

the insanity of the hird suspension has just fully dawned on me.

An employee in his organization that doesn't directly report to him may or may not have 'gone rogue', and Hird gets a suspension double the length of Corcoran.

Yes! But then I got really depressed at how much I need to catch up on.

That fat prick was on this morning, i didn't really listen as it's just white noise to me now.

But I will say that I am glad that Essendon fought these charges and didn't die wondering. Unlike Adelaide and Carlton who just rolled over like my fat dog wanting me to rub his belly.

Gee surely you are not alluding to person unknown leaking information from bullshit castle

Hmmm must be Hirdy's fault

People were bagging Little but i reckon he negotiated to the point of exhaustion. The penalties could of been way harsher if it weren't for Little imo.

People were hoping that Essendon will finish last and get the spoon farkn lol suffer in your jocks.

And it means it is still 80 years since we have recieved a wooden spoon.

I'm pretty pissed off with the club leading us on and then leaving us abandoned at the barricades. I was considering spending the membership money elsewhere next year and giving up on following the stage managed charade called the AFL...

I know I’m not allowed to actively work for them but when you love the Essendon footy club and it’s part of your heart, you never step away.

Damn that handsome, silver-tongued devil.

Maybe that's why the other clubs get so aggravated. They know that there's no way they can love their own club and people the way we love ours.

Lesser men than Hird have made it back from crucifixion.
