All the talk is that our cap is ready to burst, so we won’t be able to go for a player like Jeremy Cameron, can someone with far more knowledge than myself suggest where all the money is going.
It shits me that every trade period geeloong is linked to everyone (this season alone they are linked to Cameron, Goldstein, Higgins and crouch) even though they would have players commanding big pay days.
West coast win a flag and one year later add a $800k midfielder, they had 2 gun forwards, a gun ruckman, 2 gun midfielders and a gun back man that would be on big money before Kelly arrived.
Wtf have we done? And where does it leave us?

Very typical of Collingwood to overate their own players and over pay them. Teams like Geelong come out publicly and state they want players but won't over pay for them, thats the difference......that and poor list management.

Collingwood has always paid over for mediocre players, yet the players that put their body on the line week after week are pushed out. For example Mihocek. Cleary more consistant then JDG but getting pushed out. The club must always shit themselves come negotiation time with the so called big name players.

overpaid players, mercenary players, useless team management. At least half the list is overpaid, some by about 30%.

List of overpaid for there output (main offenders)
Grundy
Treloar
Phillips
WHE
Cox
greenwood
mayne
Sidebottom
Beams lol

Now apparently JDG wants in excess of 900,000.

There needs to be a pretty frank meeting with the players earning overs.
Make no mistake this is the clubs fault. But it needs to be addressed.
The players need to be prepared to take less money than they want in order for the club to chase other players who will compliment our list and win a flag.
Other clubs such as Hawthorn have won multiple flags and enjoyed a sustained period of success by their team being on the same page and taking less money than they could earn elsewhere.
If our cap is bulging and we don’t have the list to win a flag, then some renegotiating needs to happen. This is all good in theory though. It will only take 2 or 3 greedy players to hold the whole group back.

we have a dozen greedy players, precedent has been set by overpaying for Wells, Mayne, Grundy, Beams etc. Will take a lot to turn this around

How long before Ned Guy starts getting some heat for management of the salary cap & list. Yes he came in with issues, but he hasn’t exactly turned things around either. Not convinced we have the right guy in the job.

Its been 3 years now? Thats a cycle where generally every player on the list has been re-contracted in some shape or form. It should be enough time to see some sort of turnaround. I know he came into the job with some fanfare and I don't know a huge amount of his background. But my question at the time was that as a player manager, what is his expertise in running a footy club list?

Langdon 500k
Cox 500k
Beams 500k

1.5 million for two kicks a game. Granted Langdon’s injury was unpredictable and a shame, but it still hurts. Would love to go back to 2018 and let him take Sydney’s offer.

Then there’s JT and Hoskin-Elliott who are earning over $300k each for nothing. Phillips supposedly on bigger dollars than he should be.

And here’s the clincher - every single player listed is still contracted for 2021, so the only way we can offload them is in a salary dump for a junk pick!

Prematurely gave extensions to Roughead and Mayne whom the game has quickly passed by. Grundy earning $300k a year more than he would have been if we’d waited for the season to unfurl. Every time we sign a player early it bites us on the ass. And every time we wait ala De Goey and Mihocek, it also bites us on the ass.

Firstly I have no idea where the money is distributed but for Collingwood to contually have salary cap issues and put in performances like last night tells me there's a few issues both with list management and entitlement.

It's the Collingwood tax. Biggest club in town, media in general elevate the worth of all players, leaves them thinking they are worth more than market value. List management has fallen into the trap when it comes to contracts, paying overs. Still, if we win the flag in 2018 our list management is considered magnificent and no one is upset about salary cap pressure now. Such a fine line.

Just reported that de Goey has shown interest in joining Carlton, if this is true what a deadset maggot, he can gagf he’s exactly the type of bloke we need to weed out of the club, assuming this is all true of course.

Get it done. Carlton’s first rounder and a player. Free up cap space, get Cameron an draft another star kid.

Win win.

We don’t know what our salary cap situation is and neither does the media. They’re just trying to stir up trouble like they usually do.We could offload at least ten players this year, including retirements, and that would free up millions in salary cap space. But of course the media never mentions that side of the equation.

The team that just embarrassed us looks like adding J Cameron.

Yet the clowns at Collingwood struggle to keep our own and have to recruit bit players or cats or offs.

Didn’t we already do this to get Beams in?

About time AFL player salaries are made public like US sport, more transparency for the paying member.
