Discussion Sam Fisher charged with drug trafficking

Don't be surprised if he's not the last ex st Kilda player from that era to be tired up in this.
Was does that even mean? I’ve never heard of any others being like Sam from that era.
Surely you remember those guys from our terrific teams of that era?

Blokes like Nick Gatto, Fraser Moran and Stephen Mokbel. They always had their heads over the pill (and the powder 🤪)

Sam Fisher’s drug problem has been the worst kept secret in the AFL for 10 years.. but trafficking?! How sad!

Just got flashbacks to Watters cancelling Fishers end of season trip with Dusty.

Speaking of players from that era going off the rails, anyone know what became of Jason Gram? I know he got into strife over a stalking issue with an ex (or something along those lines), but it seemed to disappear out of the press and fade away......did he end up getting himself together? Real shame, good footballer finished up too soon....

I think that’s out of date, or you might be looking at the non-parole period…

That was the average sentence around 2016-17, I think it’s gone up considerably.
Oh yeah and how the hell would you know? ;)

After he retired he started hanging around some dropkicks that I went to school with. It's really sad when you see a bloke dressing and hanging around guys almost 10 years younger than him. Could tell from the pictures of them on social media that he must've been up to something. Seemed to enjoy constantly hanging around bars and seemingly not doing anything aside from that. All I ever had was a feeling that he was really into the drugs but didn't think it was to this extent haha
You go to Elwood High? We might know of the same people. I know for a fact he was hanging with blokes that have dealt for a long time. Dusty too. Always been suss.

Sam Fisher’s ex-partner Kate Neilson says she was heartbroken to hear about the former St Kilda star’s drugs charges.
Neilson, who “hung out a lot” with Fisher towards the end of his career said: “It’s sad because I always liked Sam and he was always good to me so I find this heartbreaking news”.
The retired Saints defender has been charged with trafficking large amounts of illicit drugs after police seized substances, including methylamphetamine, 1,4-Butanediol – a precursor drug of GHB – and a Mercedes-Benz, alleged to be the proceeds of crime.

It was a unique situation with Neilson, who had been in a relationship with Wayne Carey.
The North Melbourne legend then went on to date and have a child with Stephanie Edwards, whom Fisher had previously been seeing.
One former friend of Fisher’s said: “He won two best and fairests and was All-Australian in a year the Saints made a prelim.
“He was a very good footballer, he didn’t have a huge profile and people underestimated him. “He was the sort of guy that flew under the radar and didn’t seek attention. But no one knew what he really did for work after footy”.

Another friend said he had gradually fallen out of contact with his former Saints teammates.
“He was always a bit of a party boy but was never known to be involved with drugs while he played,’’ he said.

“None of them seem surprised though by what they’ve heard now.”
Fisher also dated Kasia Z the ex of superstar Buddy Franklin.
More recently it’s not known if Fisher was in a relationship. He kept a low profile, with a one-time friend saying they never really knew what he did for a job.

In 2013 he courted some headlines after some reports that he was antagonising teammates, was a bad influence and had off-field issues.
Fisher hit back at those claims, saying he was surprised and had pride in his effort, preparation and performance. He eventually retired in 2016 after 288 games for the Saints.

Things like ice might not kill as many people but destroys lives still. If as many people took street heroin as there are people drinking then the deaths would be huge.

Places where it's worked as a decriminalised thing have been coupled with programs to get people off the drug. Just stopping jail sentences isn't the answer either.

Weed probably could be decriminalised because at the end of the day it's pretty low on the scale but hard drugs you want some good legislation around.
Having lived in a country where weed is completely legal I can tell you it is awesome.

Okay, a vast majority?

I've known people who would say things like "I'll try anything once, I'm fine" some were, but I have seen people basically lose themselves. It's a lot easier to have a couple drinks weekly and not be addicted than have ice weekly. Strange hill to fight on either way.
What hill am I fighting on? My comment was that this is another win for the war on drugs. A war governments have fought for decades and achieved nothing because it’s a joke that ultimately targets lower income and less fortunate people who are statistically more likely to take drugs. I’m not an expert, but perhaps the money could be better spent on giving people the support networks they need.
I just find it hilarious that people see a junkie on the side of the road and can sit there and be like ‘**** drugs are so bad’. Yet they can see alcoholic and be like ‘well it’s legal and I have a few beers so it’s ok’.
Disagree with me all you want, that’s my opinion and it’s not going to change.

He didn’t go partying on his own.

I knew a lot of the boys around that era. I really doubt any of them are involved in trafficking but recreational drug use was and is rife in footballing circles

No he didn’t party on his own but some using illegal drugs back then doesn’t suggest you shouldn’t be surprised if another goes down from that era. I can assure no player has had really any contact of note with chips for a fair while. His mates back then certainly aren’t his mates now. Sam was a really nice person before he obviously fell apart.

Bentleigh Sec mate but you are probably right anyway
