If anyone wants to have a listen about what the data is saying in regards to whether we have actually gotten worse this year have a listen to this from the 9:15 mark.

I know a few people have already touched on it, but the data is also showing that our results this year have been slightly better despite actually putting out a younger team and dealing with some injuries.

And here.

It's a big injury, players don't always come back the same quality as they were prior to an injury like that and they have that risk of re-occurrence hanging over their heads. Scar tissue is more prone to tears than healthy tissue. He's doing the prudent thing to back himself in, play good quality football and get a better deal.
Agree. I'm not expecting Sic back to his best in 2022. Suspect he will be a bit hit and miss and fair enough has missed a heap of footy.

People suggesting he might be captain this year is overly optimistic for mine and even if the player vote had him on top which I highly doubt the coaches should overrule it to let him focus on his comeback.

It is exciting.to have him and Gunners back but Gunners is 30 with a bad back so like Sic I am not expecting to see the Gunners we know in 2022.

Our side will have changed a bit in the time he's been out. Partially, personnel, but probably also the way we play.

Our backline is now a strength, with up to 3x players that belong there having to ride the bench or start in other positions. Our Ruck dept. might soon be competent & we'll no doubt be changing our midfield set up, which will hopefully assist our defence even more. Lastly, we'll likely transition the ball a lot better from defence & through the Wings/Centre of the ground better than when Sicily last played.

He might well get back to his best (or better), yet not have as great an impact - or, have the opportunity to be more attacking/damaging without quite regaining his 'best form'.

It's very hard to say what we'll see & how we grade that against what we saw when he last played. As I'm sure we all would, I'd rather see a contributor in an effective defensive unit than an absolute star amongst a rabble.

"Most players will have had it and recovered well before practice matches and the season proper."

Barely half.
Recovered well? We've seen the long covid result? Time travel again.
Getting it doesn't mean you won't get it again.
The time travel machine helps.

You've misunderstood or misquoted (or both). You've read "recovered well", whereas it should be read as recovered "well before".

Also, the timeframe set in the original post was that most players would have it & recover before the practice matches & season proper (March/April) - not early/mid January, when you replied.

By discrediting the post so definitively 2-3 months before the timeline expired, have you not 'time-machined' it?

Half now will almost definitely be more than half by the time the season starts. Most means the greater number - so as soon as 51% of the list has had it then most of them have had it as claimed. Numbers are yet to peak here so I dare say it is not preposterous to say well more than half of our players will have caught it by mid-March.

Protection against reinfection is thought to be up to 12 months with omicron.

Long covid, sure - however omicron is predominantly more upper respiratory than lower so it shouldn't impact a player's lungs like other strains. The vast majority of athletes who have had it have been unphased by it. Finn is apparently killing it at training.

Empirical evidence would suggest that their claims were fairly on the money.

Worst thing was I couldn’t watch it for some reason and had to keep trying to connect to the game on my phone while I was doing all this other weird shit that made no sense. I found out afterwards from someone on the street

Strangely enough,

IT WAS A NIGHTMARE

Most have recovered well and are back in training already.

We’re a month away from practice matches.

Ooohhhh mama! Now this is exciting…

Mama invokes some bad Hawthorn mental images:

Last night I had a dream and i was playing for the hawks (only 50 year old on the pitch) and everyone was slower than me and then I slipped out a hand pass to Dylan Moore who kicked the winning goal. This dream happens about once a year and always in January.

even though we won we'll need a bit more from you next year

Interesting that within your own dream you're just the side character who dishes it off to someone else to become the match winning hero :tearsofjoy:

Was padding his other stats to look better for the Norm Smith voting.

By that stage he had 42 + 6 & was just trying to bring others into the game!
