Sam Naismith
An ACL rupture and a long list of complications wiped out Sam Naismith’s 2018 and 2019 seasons, fuelling the hunger of the chief Sydney Swans ruckman for a comeback 2020 campaign. The QBE Sydney Swans Academy product is an excellent tap ruckman who’s shown promising glimpses since being drafted in November 2012, particularly as Sydney powered towards the 2016 Grand Final. The New South Welshman had always worn the number 35 before switching to the number 10 for season 2020 in search of a fresh start.

Sam Naismith
DOB: 16 July 1992
DEBUT: 2014
DRAFT: #Undefined, 2015 Rookie Elevation
RECRUITED FROM: North Shore (NSW)

Cheers for the responses. Definitely looks like he's fit into your side seamlessly in the last couple of weeks.

Calling it now that Naismith is going to be as good as Goldstein if not better. He provides the chop out mark relieving the defence, dominates the centre hitouts to advantage and takes pack marks inside 50 before converting. Swans have got a real diamond from the rough and should extend his contract even longer.

Permission to post on your board...hope its OK.

I thought I would drop by and post how impressed I have been with Naismith's games this last month. You look like you have unearthed a beauty there. Kudos to the list management team as it just highlights how you need to be extra patient with tall's as they invariably take much longer to come through.

You have backed him and he is now delivering in spades.

The upside is that when Tippett returns he can play CHF and give the chop out to Naismith in the ruck. Win / Win.

Oh and please .....PLEASE make sure the arrogant toss pots, also known as the Pee and Poo don't win it again this year. :praying:

All the best with you finals bid as I am sure you will be going deep in to September. :thumbsu:

He's looked great. I'm sold. Awesome leap and nice, deft tap ruck who is now doing it all around the field. I hope he can keep this form up right into finals. We're gonna need him.

Naismith has been getting better and better every week. Take out the first game he played against Geelong he is averaging 12 disposals a game, 27 hitouts and about 4 tackles. Those are very respectable numbers considering that Tippett is only averaging 29 hitouts and 14 disposals a game. Naismith isn't that far off that pace and it means with another genuine option in the ruck Tippett can spend a bit more time forward with Buddy and XR.

Also I could be imagining things but I think the quality of Naismith's hitouts is quite good as well, certainly better than Sinclair's and Nankervis's.

Solid, a can only get better. Perfect timing for him to come on, allows Tippett back to part time status, especially coming of the knee thing.

Been very impressive since he came in and has gotten better each week as he gets more used to the higher intensity and speed at AFL level. He needs to work on his fitness, but that'll come.

The interesting thing will be how he copes with a bad game. I can't seem him getting dropped even if he has an absolute stinker, but the week after will give us a good idea about his long-term future. I've got the feeling that he'll come out firing.

Impressive so far but he hasn't come up against a top notch ruckman yet.

Zmith - overrated.
Kreuzer - not top tier.
Ceglar/McEvoy - underrated especially as a pairing, but still not in the top echelon
Clarke - rubbish.

Next few games:
Port - Trengove. Interesting one, obviously a fill-in but he's done some good work not at the taps but at the follow up so will be interesting to see how Naismith responds.
St Kilda - Hickey. Having a great season, pushing the top bracket of ruckman.
North - Goldstein. This will be the big test, but Tippett might be back to help.
Richmond - Hampson. Improver but still pretty average ruckman.

Hopefully Tippett will be busy giving Tarrant or Scott Thompson a bath in the goalsquare.

Huh? Kreuzer when fit is like the 2nd or 3rd best ruck in the league. He may not dominate in hit outs but works hard as another midfielder around the ground, that's just how athletic he is.

Zac Smith is definitely a good ruck, not the best, but certainly in the top 10.

Krezuer 2nd/3rd best ruck in the league? In what universe?

Gawn, Goldstein, Naitanui clearly the top of the pile.
Mumford, Jacobs have claims to be included in that list too. I may be a bit biased but I'll include Tippett in here too based on his form earlier this year. Sandilands before his injury deserves a ranking here too.
Grundy and Hickey the best of the younger brigade. Lycett now that he has a chance showing he has talent as well.

Krezuer nowhere near any of these players. I'd have him somewhere alongside Leuenberger, Hampson and Zac Smith as serviceable rucks.

Don't forget D-rex!
