Sam Newman has done it this time

Only a complete moron would believe sam's back pedalling act.
He knew exactly what he had said and knew he was in deep trouble, because of his track record.

It's about time he acted his age
Agree 100%.

However, this incident regarding Paula Wreidt has nothing to do with him
Let's see what unfolds. At this stage how can anyone be sure either way.

I agree that it has nothing to do with him but the topic of the thread is Sam Newman has done it this time.
I still think it was a slip up because what he said, "it would be worthy to come on her", doesn't actually make sense as a sentence anyway, suggesting it was a jumble of words that came out.

Jesus christ. Yes Sams comments were inappropriate but scapegoating him to this magnitude is ridiculous. Enough people have already made sarcastic remarks ("Is Sam to blame for petrol prices?") for me to add to the list. But seriously, the two events could not be further seperated from eachother and anyone who accuses Sam of contributing are kidding themselves in the hope he'll get the sack as a consequence.

If it is to do with the incident, blame THE MEDIA. They know it will sell, and are exploiting it. I've watched it again, and agree it was in very poor taste. But to blame Sam is a huge stretch.

The media could have let it slide, But no.$$$ Talk.

Too late.

Sam Newman sex slur MP rushed to hospital in emergency

August 04, 2008 04:45pm

SENIOR Tasmanian Government Minister Paula Wriedt has been rushed to the Royal Hobart Hospital this afternoon as a result of an undisclosed medical emergency.

Ms Wriedt has been at the centre of AFL Footy Show star Sam Newman's latest gaffe in recent days.

Newman was condemned nationally for making what were interpreted as inappropriate sexual comments about the minister during her appearance on the show to campaign for a Tasmanian AFL team.

After watching the young mother of two speak Newman, who denies he meant anything sexual, said “it would be worthy of coming on her.”

Newman had only just returned to the show after undergoing counselling for previous sexist behaviour.

A sombre Premier David Bartlett read a short statement at 4.15pm but refused to disclose the nature of the emergency.

"I am not in a position to speculate on the nature of her admission,'' Mr Barltett said.

`"However I have received advice that she will require a period of treatment and recuperation.

`"It is clear that in the short-term, Paula will be unable to perform her duties as a minister.

`"She needs to focus on getting well, with the support of her family and friends.''

Mr Bartlett said he would take on Ms Wriedt's portfolio responsibilities which include Economic Development and Tourism.

He said Ms Wriedt's family would make a statement in due course.

She's in trouble if she goes to the Royal Hobart Hospital because her Government has stuffed it!
She might get a bed though.

Time for Sam to go. The comment was deliberate and a disgrace. Her admission to hospital is irrelevant (but unfortunate). He has been warned and now come out with something to rival the last incident.

It's sad to see so many of you defending him. I wonder if you'd feel the same way if Sam was having a crack at your mother, sister or daughter. The world should move on from this fossil.

The media are truly un deniable. Those in it and those who perpetuate it.

Can't be bothered speaking about who is right or wrong but it seems that it is or could be a bit of those who want some of it and those who can't take it and on both sides.

Don't say you don't know what I mean because those media types will be able to figure this out. Very sad all round. Enough of the bullshit. But it never will be.

to blame sam for this is without doubt the most stupidest thing ive ever heard in my life. boy are there some ****en stupid people in this world.

she was ill already. and sams comments werent even remotely offensive. if someone thinks otherwise they should go to "toughen the **** up 101"

Am I the only one on here that believes it was, as Sam reiterates, a simple slip of the tongue. If you have a look at the incident and the way Sam repulses, after a second or two delay, when he realises what he just said. All the other times Sam has said or done something controversial he stands by it and actually plays on it for some time, at least till the end of the show.

No Artist your not the only one, I also hold that opinion. I just wish we had good enough lives to watch TFS every week waiting for Sam to slip up so we can scurry over to our computers and call for his head.
As for Paula Wriedt, I wish her a speedy recovery.

LMAO ... If this woman got this 'medical condition' cause of what Sam said about her on the footy show, I don't think she is cut out for a career in politics ...
I feel dreadfully sad she's in hospital, and I wish her a fully and speedy recovery, but come on, there is no way in hell Sam Newman should be blamed for her medical condition ...

Everyone knows what sam is all about he has a bit of fun and the show gets ratings. What i would like to know is every one jumps the gun when he talks about women but what about jason dunstall getting ridiculed every week.People seem to laugh at that, can someone tell me where the difference is.I was saddened when i heard that minister got ill and i hope health wise all is well.

The reason why she is in hospital and whats shes in hospital for has got around down here in hobart and I can tell you it has nothing to do with Sam.

I think the media has handled this really poorly.

It is extremely sad that this has happened and I feel so so sorry for the woman. My heart really goes out to her.

I just wish the media would leave her alone, and not sensationalise the story. Hopefully they can let her recover and get better and don't use her condition and her incident with sam, for extra ratings and newspaper sales.

I personally hate when the media jumps on a person in obvious distress and headlines it purely for their own self interest.

I can't believe this thread - stop the totally useless speculation about the politician, the celebrity and the comedy show. Leave it alone.
If anyone wants to know whether there's a link between the 2 events, ask yourself this question (and answer it for yourself without discussion): Would the 2nd event have occurred BUT FOR the 1st event? I don't know the answer - none of you do. So leave it alone.

Well even if he did mean what he said, at least he tried to get out of it by saying they misunderstood him. So obviously his lessons in bullshit sensitivity worked.
