Police unable to find Samantha Murphy after intelligence prompted new search south of Ballarat

Police concluded their search of bushland south of Ballarat on Wednesday afternoon after being unable to locate any trace of the missing woman.

Victoria Police have called off their search of bushland south of Ballarat for the body of missing Victorian woman Samantha Murphy.

Investigators said they were focusing on the Buninyong Bushland Reserve based on "intelligence derived from a number of sources".

But authorities wrapped up the search shortly after 2pm, and said Ms Murphy's body had not been located.

If reports are true and he was on a bender and had only left venues around 3-4 am I find it staggering to believe someone could be functioning well enough to pull off a premeditated murder and be in decent enough shape to not leave any evidence behind or clean up any potential evidence so I can see why people have theories about it being a hit and run but in my opinion would have had to have had help cleaning up/moving or hiding disposing of the body.

He could have sobered up pretty fast when the accident happened and adrenaline levels would have gone sky high
 
Would they have dogs who can locate remains?? I feel like that would be useful in such dense bush and also it being such a large area

Staggered here too.

They've physically had his devices for at least two weeks, working on him behind the scenes for two for a total of one month, I'd have thought they'd have his movements nailed by now.

If they don't find her in the next couple of days, I'll be thinking PO has been real shifty in how he's done this. He might have left her in Buninyong for example, then gone back a day or two later when he's straightened right up, leaving all his devices behind and moved her.

Playing devil's advocate here but we just watched the Jill Dando doco on netflix last night and I think with this case from what we know at this stage (plenty could be undisclosed at the moment) but what is tying the suspect to the murder at this stage other than pings on a phone location? Would be interesting to know if they have any physical evidence or whether the suspect has told other people what he has done via text for them to come to that conclusion.

Now I am not saying he has or hasn't done it and I am sure more will be revealed soon enough but it is so staggering to believe someone could be out that late whether its on drugs or booze and still be in shape to do anything without leaving anything behind, it would be hard enough to do with a hangover 6 hours later but what its supposedly around a 3 hour time frame from when he left the last venue?

If this was a random attack in a street near said venues or homes you could wrap your head around it being a spontaneous sexual assault or rape gone to the next level.

I'd hope they have more than that because it's not inconceivable an attention seeking drug or alcohol affected tradie might big note to his mates trying to take scary credit for something he didn't actually do. It wouldn't be the first time something like that happened.

Maybe he did leave something behind, and there's other evidence, because he's no criminal genius, and that's how the police know he did it, but they can't find the body (very hard to find, borderline impossible, if she's down a deep shaft).

If they don't have a body and the suspect has not confessed they wouldn't have a clue how she has died etc which is why I am thinking if they are relying on pings placing him into the area then surely he has had to communicate with someone confessing what he has done ?

Just one of many rumours is that he has confessed to someone over text. That's not going to be enough for a murder charge.

On analyzing the data, they may have been able to place his phone as travelling next to hers, meaning they're both moving in the same direction, at the same time and until her phone went flat. There's a couple of ways they could do that.

Then he's gone back and moved her later.

The information from the police of a 'damaged vehicle' doesn't necessarily mean the car was damaged when he ran Samantha over. It may have already been damaged or when he was disposing of her body, he damaged it then.

He may have even rung someone and said 'hey I'm stuck, come and tow me out'.

That's another one of the rumours but I don't think we need to explore that. If there's any truth to it, her family doesn't need to read it on bigfooty.
