And there are further options for personalised volume, conversation awareness or loud sound reduction.

You’ve clearly said you need to switch them.
So you have them set to noise cancellation (as that what you’ve bought them for)
You sense (somehow) someone is coming up from behind you so you reach for your phone or watch to switch over to transparency mode so you can hear if they actually come up to you?
Or I guess you can hope adaptive mode has a stalker mode.
Is that what you’re suggesting?

Getting off track here, but my noise cancelling headphones are awesome but the transparency mode is shithouse, no way you could listen to that when noise canceling is available.
Haven’t tried the pros but have AirPods, be interesting to see how good adaptive and transparency modes work though.

Professional sniffer dogs have their own speciality but I can't see why a general sniffer couldn't be given Ruby's scent off a blanket or a jacket and track where she went that way, perhaps starting off at the point where Ruby was hit by the car.

That would make sense except she didn't look like she was going on a date in the CCTV photo. Unless it was an extremely casual date.
