Police know what's going on, there are reasons why they don't tell or keep things from the Media. Like the case of the campers recently they probably already know who's done it and are listening / watching them waiting for them to slip up.

Perps usually talk to someone , even talk to themselves and return to the scene to try and hide or cover tracks.

In Victoria, school kids were regularly given free Covid testing kits.

I still have plenty despite giving at least a dozen away.

I still have about 15 tests in my medicine cupboard.

Because how fit they are can determine how far they could have ran into the forest in a certain amount of time.

Considering the 4 hour timeframe I can only see that as a red herring.

There was enough time for her to get lost if she was an 86 year old with a dodgy hip.

Except that if you know how often her runs last for, how quick she moves etc her leaving time can discount a certain amount of those 4 hours because it's the first few where she runs out and then heads back in during a normal run.

I didn't even think of that. I thought it would be relevant as to whether the (daily?) 20 km runs were a cover for something else. In any event, it's too hard to tell and pure speculation.

Is this photo from Saturday or Sunday? Apologies if this has been mentioned multiple times.

Timeline of Samantha Murphy's disappearance

Sunday February 4, 7am: Mum-of-three Samantha Murphy is last seen leaving her home on Eureka Street in Ballarat East heading off on a run.
7.16am: She is captured on a neighbour's CCTV wearing a brown singlet and black half-length leggings.
11am: Ms Murphy fails to show up at a planned brunch with family. She is reported to police as a missing.
Monday February 5: Victoria Police launch a public appeal to find Ms Murphy. A search area is established just outside the suburb of Buninyong, about 14km from where Ms Murphy was last seen, as well as near her home. Police revealed Ms Murphy's mobile phone had pinged in Buninyong
Tuesday February 6: Ms Murphy's Mick husband tells media that he's 'not too bad under the circumstances. He was pictured speaking with police as the desperate search continued. The search extended to more than 100 specialised police officers, SES crews and teams from Forest Fire Management Australia and Parks Victoria.
Wednesday February 8, 12.30pm: A search party found possible evidence near a walking trail in Woowookarung Regional Park
1.45pm: Mick Murphy turns up at the cordoned off scene in Woowookarung Regional Park and appeared visibly stunned as he was turned away by officers. Police said the items found in bushland were not related to her whereabouts.
Police later released what they initially thought was CCTV of Ms Murphy leaving her property and heading off in a north-easterly direction toward Yankee Flat Road near the intersection of Warrenheip Road.
Thursday afternoon February 8: A runner came forward to reveal they are the person seen in the CCTV footage, ruling out a key line of inquiry.
Friday February 9: Victoria Police ramp up its efforts with the arrival of officers from the missing persons unit.
Saturday February 10: Investigators scale back the search and say that a full scale search will only resume if fresh information emerges.
Sunday February 11: As police down grade the search, locals continue their own search by scouring the area in small groups.
Monday February 12: Cin Hobbs, administrator of 'Find Samantha Murphy' Facebook group - which garnered thousands of members within days announced she was removing the group as it 'has served its purpose.'
Tuesday, February 13: Daily Mail Australia reveals that Ms Murphy's beloved dog Ruby had gone missing
Wednesday, February 14: It is revealed Ruby has died

7.16am: She is captured on a neighbour's CCTV wearing a brown singlet and black half-length leggings.
Stupid question time - what's in the bag? I've seen mentions of poo bags but the bag wouldn't be full within 15 minutes.

I don't believe she was running with the dog, so must have picked up some other dog poo along the way? Though why she's running without a dog but with dog poo bags I don't know.

I hate speculation but I read earlier where somebody suggested perhaps getting a bit of mid run regret and trying for a shortcut.
Not an unreasonable assumption as I can certainly identify with having very similar brain fades during a run and realising I won’t make my plan.
She is smart but still… who knows?
Also had a couple of women I know today throw up the idea that women of their age (and Samantha’s) are prone to the odd regrettable decision due to the horrific things females go through at that age with menopause, thyroid issues, Graves’ disease etc
Must admit I see way too much of this and am very grateful to be a male.
I just hope she’s alive

My heart breaks for the dog :( Who knows what it witnessed. But hopefully, perhaps there is evidence to gain from the confirmation of the dogs passing???

I haven’t read back a few pages (I will shortly) but do people feel the investigation is getting somewhere? Or is it stagnant atm?

God I hope they find her soon :(

I fully believe that she is a victim of foul play.

If it was a fall she would have the accessibility of her emergency sos either on her phone or apple watch, but then again she may have been too unwell to use (or doesnt know how)

I just do not buy the 'fall down the mineshaft'.

I also really hope that facebook page made by Cin Hobbs didn’t interfere with the investigation. I heard a lot of accusations and arguing was going on in there.

Something the family, especially kids do not need…

I never attacked her weight, I said she is overweight at a size 14.

The discussion was in relation to most men being able to overpower her.
Perhaps you need to look at the stats on DV and assaults on women committed by men. It happens every single day. Stop talking about Samantha's weight. It's totally irrelevant to her going missing.

Did they happen to search the Union Jack reserve?
The creek area in particular.

Its close to where the 5pm ping was noted.
3 times in the last 5 years non verbal autistic children have wandered off and after exhaustive 2 day searches they were located within a kilometre of where they were lost.
Just interesting when police call off searches sometimes.

To my eye, having run with a few of the Ballarat boys of the 90s, the photo of her just prior to her heading out does not show quote “a slim, fit woman” who regularly runs 20k which of itself then implies she runs at least 5k a few days per week in addition to allow her to cope with a Sunday 20k long run. Even if she’s a slow jogger type, her appearance does not match the media description. Perhaps just media hype/bad journalism but if her family actually believed she was doing this as a routine, then maybe her 20k runs were a cover for other activities.
Hi first time posting in this thread..I read that she had "only recently returned to running", so this half marathon she was training for would have been her first in a while.

OK so the quote is ambiguous:

"A friend of Ms Murphy, Virginia O’Loughlin, said she had recently started running in preparation for the Run the Gap fun run in Halls Gap, and was due to be at a brunch at 11am on the day she went missing.
She said Ms Murphy would’ve stuck to running tracks rather than ventured into bushland.
'Sam’s a very sensible person, so I don’t believe that she would be on any of the ‘goat tracks’, as we call them, in Canadian State Forest'."

In the same story a "family member" says:
"Yes she walked in different directions, but she kept to the paths, never went for more than 10k total roughly and would let family know if she was walking further.”
They added Ms Murphy was an “experienced” walker who was in “amazing condition” at the time.

I remember there was some debate at the beginning about whether she'd been walking or running since that would obviously effect the distance covered.

So I guess all this raises the possibility she alternated between walking and running, giving someone watching her more opportunities to attack

So… overweight, menopausal, cheating on her husband, cheating when running, thyroid issues, subject to brain fades - it’s no wonder she’s got into trouble 😢
