That brings not only the time of day the picture was taken into doubt, but also the time of year. I know a guy who can analyse the shadows and give a definitive time.
If the time had been altered on footage I am guessing they would know because there would either be a gap in the footage potentially or it would show a different time when it was collected.

If it is synced to a computer or internet then it might depend on what time zone is set to. Having said that I am assuming that police would have a look at that.

With the counter terrorist specialists date time stamp would be checked for validation.

I think if it is a fruit it is possibly plums. I don't think you would carry fruit like that away from the body.

And yet I can't find an answer to that question (When was SM last captured on CCTV?)

If the 7:16am 'runner' was not her, then we have this photo:

View attachment 1910746

But what's the timestamp of this photo? She doesn't look like she's about to go on a run. Was it captured earlier that morning or on a previous day.
And if a previous day, how do we know whether she even spent the night at home?
(Yes, I know there are phone pings, but someone else may have had her phone).

Police will have the EXIF data that gives the exact time / date of the image. It can't be faked.

That photo is definitely from when the police say it is.

Been researching CCTV systems recently for personal use, most save footage to the Cloud, the date and time would be accurate to UTC.

Even those with internal memory can save a couple of months worth of footage

The camera angle is not a doorbell only camera which suggests that house has a number of cameras (given its location and the size of the block I'd sat at least each entrance and side) and there would be be enough supporting footage to track everybody's movements around the place and the times over at least a few weeks

Detectives investigating the suspicious disappearance of Ballarat East woman Samantha Murphy will lead "a targeted search" of the Mount Clear area on Friday, following a lead that has come from mobile phone data.
Ms Murphy, 51, was last seen leaving her property on Eureka Street to go for a run, about 7am on Sunday, February 4, 2024, but failed to return home.
"This extensive search will involve a significant number of detectives from across Crime Command and other specialist commands, as well as local police," a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
"They will focus on an area highlighted by intelligence derived from phone data.
"Extensive searches have been conducted throughout the Canadian Forest area since Samantha's disappearance almost three weeks ago, however no trace of her has been located at this time."
Samantha was known to regularly run through the Canadian Forest area.
"The Missing Persons Squad has primacy of the investigation and that team has been further expanded with experienced detectives from a number of units across Crime Command and other specialist areas," the spokesperson said.

Residents in Ballarat East and Mount Helen are again being asked to check CCTV for any possible sightings over the past three weeks, particularly around the Canadian Forest.
People travelling through the area, particularly between 7am and 7pm on Sunday 4 February, who may have dash-cam footage are also urged to also check.
"We are keeping an open mind, but believe the most likely scenario is that her disappearance involves one or more parties," Crime Command Detective Acting Superintendent Mark Hatt said.
"Given the extensive and detailed search that has already been undertaken, and the fact no sign of Samantha or her personal belongings has been located, we have ruled out any type of medical incident.
"There is also nothing to indicate that Samantha left the area of her own accord.
From the Courier today.

Police are now searching Mount Clear and Canadian. Police say they are acting on telecommunications data. Can we infer that Samantha's phone pinged in these locations at some time? Or maybe they have a suspect whose phone pinged in these locations?

All it reads is that it’s from phone data, which I would assume is from her last known ping.

“Police on Friday revealed they will launch a targeted search in the Mount Clear region, which has been highlighted by intelligence derived from phone data.”

I can see how that circuit would be a 15km run. Funny how they haven't thought to look there before?

Be interesting to see which area they are looking in.

From the highschool area it's a climb up to a peak and then a dip down into more open area over the top.

That area is used quite a bit by mountain bikers too.

The detective says Missing Persons Squad has been checking mobile phone data since the day after Samantha went missing.

Forgive my naivety, but why can't you just ctrl-F her number/devices info in a database??

BF’s resident reporter, Suzi Olsen, should have an update for us soon from Mount Clear.
What’s the latest please Sooz?

There's not an excel spreadsheet with every single call ever made that's open to anybody in the police. And they will be looking at many phone numbers and locations.

Interesting. Sounds like to me they know someone has seen her in the area but hasn't come forward and are trying to see if they come forward now that they're putting an 'olive branch' out.

When questioned if the house has been searched, it seemed like he slipped up and wasn't supposed to say it has. He ended up saying it's partially been searched.

I'm starting to think she may have been meeting someone along her "runs" and something's gone awry.
