If he's a danger to self harm he has mental health issues.
Yeah no I get that. My post is in regards to Rob R saying that this guy had been “well known for lesser offences but let off again and again because of mental health” - so why wouldn’t the lawyer lead with that… instead he said the guy had no mental health (or drug) issues (but does now, since his arrest, hence the danger of self harm etc)

So if what Rob says is correct, why would a lawyer state that their client had no pre-arrest mental health issues, especially if this goes to trial, as even a vague suggestion that the accused was suffering from a mental health episode at the time that the alleged offence was committed, could be used by the lawyer to try and gain sympathy from the jury.

Edited: words make things make sense

Does anyone think he may have been paid by someone?
Doesn't sound like he is your typical hitman type... so imo no.

Think a case that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

As far as motive goes... perhaps he was pursuing/stalking Samantha's daughter - wanted to get rid of Samantha because she was restricting him from access?
Apparently did not know the victim... so appears to be random.

Never jailed before which is very different. Apparently we'll known for lesser offences but let off again and again because of mental health so it looks like another death due to progressive judges and laws that protect the crim.

What kind of offences? The nuisance/sexual harassment type? Or shoplifting?

Really glad you haven't made your made up before we have the facts.

I
Having served on a couple of Juries I am convinced the legal profession is living in the 1900s. They even dress up like they are from that era.

It is out there already, horse bolted. Have you heard about this internet thing?
Yes, our legal system was formulated in an era of snail mail, steam trains and bolting horses. As was our government. They are both struggling in the 'digital age'.

Currently on shift with a fella from Ballarat and we have both been following it.
He walked into room and I told him the news.
His jaw literally hit the floor and he just says “no ****ing way!!!”
We just looked at him and he quickly got on his phone to call somebody.
Gets off the phone with just a stunned look
Turns out he knows him and just can’t believe it.
Just shows you never really know.

The suppression order in this case is now going back to court tomorrow.

And on the one hand the Magistrate is reportedly talking mental health risks, and then on the other hand about the accused getting a fair trial. Reporting on this might not be that reliable.

So now there's speculation about which ex-footballer's son is being referred to.

Causing further grief to a whole lot of ex-footballers, and their families.

All because of a suppression order granted today.

Absolutely ridiculous.

'Represented by lawyer David Tamanika, the court heard the alleged killer's name should be suppressed from the public despite it already being widely reported in the hours before the hearing.
...
Mr Tamanika said his client faced 'significant mental health challenges' behind bars, which would be compounded by his identity being outed to the general public.

He asked the order be made nationwide, highlighting the story of Ms Murphy's disappearance had made headlines across the globe.
...
At the time of the hearing late on Thursday afternoon, the man's name and image had been splashed across news websites and television broadcasts for hours.
...
However, Magistrate Mykytowycz dismissed those arguments, declaring she would impose an interim gag order that she would not allow to be challenged until April 12.

That should not be a proper basis, in my view, to rule out a suppression order,' she said.

In making the order, the magistrate dismissed the public interest in the case, saying the accused's right to justice was more important.

The defence is entitled to a fair trial,' she said.

Following the hearing, media organisations launched a challenge to the suppression order, with the matter set to return to court on Friday morning.
... '

Espcially the defense lawyers, who will take posts off the internet with the suspects name and a presumption of guilt and show them to the judge and argue that it's impossible to get a fair trial and have all charges dismissed.
When has a murder case been dismissed for this reason? Doesn’t happen, they can try but cases rarely get dismissed…

What makes anyone so certain he was not paid or forced to by a 3rd party
Because why would you pay someone to murder a woman in her 50s who was in no way, shape or form famous or a high value target?

Also why would you pay a 22 year old to do your dirty work? If you can afford to pay for a hit you can afford to pay for someone a hell of a lot more competent than this dude.

All serial killers start somewhere. Sometimes we just get lucky and catch them when they make easy mistakes so we can get them off the streets before any more innocent lives are taken. For all we know this guy has been a deviant for years and just hasn't been caught or done anything crazy enough to warrant police attention

Shame they released the name in the media before the suppression order was executed!

I understand the question though.
It’s a shock to hear that a young man was allegedly in the bush and just murdered a woman he doesn’t know. It does happen but can understand why there’s questions around it as we don’t know the full story.

Maybe they watch Breaking Bad. Jesse got away
Could be that he needed some money was young and fit and allegedly had the means to hide a body very well and was offered a sum of money. Some of the Bali 9 risked the death penalty or life in jail to carry drugs for a lousy $10 000.

If the Teacher's Pet case isn't going to be dismissed, I doubt any case will... given can have judge rather than jury trial if any concerns.
