The Athletic's Jeff Howe writes Brock Purdy is "expected" to have elbow surgery next week.

The timeline remains up in the air, with the "belief" being that Purdy will need six months to recover. Until they're able to fully look at the extent of the damage under the knife, the 49ers won't know for sure. Trey Lance remains a fairly safe bet to see most of the 49ers offseason and training camp reps with the ones, and it would be tough for Purdy to mount a comeback from the sideline.

Not sure how I feel about good as Gould potentially being on the move.

Dude has been automatic I'm the in playoffs never missed a FG or XP - that's wild!

He was 27/32 in the regular season and 50/51 on XP - which has him around the mid pack on %.

he's 40 and his range is caped in the low 50s and above 40 his success rate drops.

He missed a few kicks last year - Raiders which would have won the game instead of going in to OT. Chargers was an XP that ended up leaving us with a 6 point lead late in the game meaning the D had to close out the game.

For a team that takes the points and it relies on the D to play to keep scores low to win games, a kicker is pretty vital.

49ers rightly scouting rookie kickers and then letting Gould go work out what he is worth. Seems like they are trying to get all the facts out before making a decision.

Novel approach that.

I am thinking one of the 3rd round picks we normal use on a rb should be used on a kicker like jake moody from michigan (knows about kicking in bad conditions)

I'm not adverse to this, but people are still bent out of shape over taking Wish in the 4th...imagine a kicker. Maybe we need a crap kicker so Shanahan goes for it more often on 4th down?

We're still in the old school mindset, take the points rely on the D. Even some of the punts at midfield in 4th and short.

The absolute top teams take the calculated risks, it's probably one of the few areas we could sharpen to take the next step.

100% but if the trade off is Shanahan old school football for the rest of the game I'll take it.

49ers re-signed OT Colton McKivitz to a two-year contract.

A 2020 fifth-rounder, McKivitz has just 446 career snaps to his name, though a decent chunk of them came in 2022 at both tackle spots. He provides in-house insurance in the increasingly likely event that RT Mike McGlinchey departs in free agency.

Jimmy G is off to Vegas. Farewell and best of luck. Thanks for your service.

Rita can stop her drawing streak now at 404 days!

He ain't meaning Javon Kinlaw 😂.

Defense gets stronger 💪. Must be aiming for conceding less than 10 points a game in 2023....

I'm pretty happy with both these moves.

Our defence is just immense now.

This 49ers FO doesn't **** around. Doesn't get cute just addresses the obvious weaknesses with rare resources.

Expect them to sign a slew of underachieving lineman as rotational guys as has been their want.
