Urgh, feels like the preseason with the huge gap between meaningful games. Great for the freshen up, but 3 full weeks off makes it a quiet time. Just hope for the rest over rust argument.

Anyone got a preferred opponent in the divisonal round?

Packers are pretty patchy. It would be a huge win for them over the Cowboys, not sure they'd have 2 boil overs in their kitbag.

Rams would be an interesting match up with the history between Kyle and Sean. We've go out the better line up, but they have enough talent and coaching to make it interesting. They've been pretty good the past 6 weeks too.

Philly are terrible right now, and the Levi faithful would love he chance to end their season.

Baker and the Buccs are on a similar run to the Rams going 5-1 just to sneak in. We accounted for them comfortably earlier on, so would expect something similar.

Packers would be great, as their defense is terrible. Plus it puts the Cowboys out (obviously), but I can't see it happening.

I don't want to see the Rams. Divisional rival, good QB playing well with two dangerous receivers and a pretty good RB. I don't think their defense is that good, and ST is awful, but I'm a little apprehensive about that matchup tbh.

If we end up with the winner of Tampa v Philly, as we'd expect, then that'll be fine. Both teams are in poor form and/or have injury clouds over key players, and if we didn't win that game it would be either through injury or self-inflicted (turnovers, shitty gameplan etc.)

Regardless of how it plays out, having a week off for the main guys to get some rest and avoid a game where they can get injured is a great result. They should be firing come next week.

So, Green Bay on Sat night. Looking forward to coming up against that defense, not so much the offense with Love looking pretty decent.

No excuses though, lucked in to playing the seventh seed after effectively three weeks rest when they’ve been fighting for their lives across the same period. Anything less than a comfortable win will be pretty poor tbh.

Playoffs are a new season. There is form from the regular season, but teams across the history of the wildcard can get hot at the right time and defy expectations (10 have made the Superbowl since 1970).

49ers finished 6th only 2 seasons ago and were a drive away from the Superbowl after finishing the season 10-7 (and also a drive away from missing the playoffs - the margins can be that fine).

Having said a that, sometimes teams make a splash in week 1 and then return to normal service. We'll likely get a look at the Packers and Texans as teams that defied the expectations up against the 1 seeds and see if they're legit or if they played out of their skins this week.

I've felt in the he NFC that we were ahead of the chasing pack, and seeds 2-7 were of a similar class, so the Cowboys losing is a surprise , but isn't shocking. Its a similar story in the AFC, there's the Ravens and 2-7 can make a legitimate case about why they are better than the others.

We should beat the Packers - I'd expect so. We've got great talent on both sides of the ball. We're rested, and have talented coaches to exploit opponents weaknesses.

Did I think we lose to the Browns/Vikings/Bengals/Ravens/Rams? NO, HELL NO, NO, MAYBE, MAYBE (but we were resting everyone so does it count?).

Any given Sunday or Saturday says that we need to play well to get over the line.

If it's a drag race like the Cowboys game today the it becomes a lottery. If our D can slow them down then we'll be in great shape.

Interesting battle within a battle this week with the coin toss.

GB took first possession against Dallas. They set the tone, quietened the crowd and layed the foundations for self doubt and destruction with a perfectly executed 12 play 7 minute drive.

If GB win the toss, I'd expect them to apply the same strategy. If we win the toss, I'd be certain that we would defer.

I'm not a huge believer in first drives winning games, but these early drives are really key to a GB of SF win

Exactly. I'd take the ball first if I was either team, particularly as we know Shanahan gets in his head if we're behind. A TD on the first drive will be enormous for whichever team gets the ball.

Of course, if you take the ball and go three and out, and then the opposition score, that decision looks shaky. But I'd rather try and land the first blow.

I'd defer if i was 49ers. Let your d get a 3 and out to mess with packers offense head. Plus defering says we aint scared of your offense.

I'm the same, just find it a really interesting subplot to the game.

I've seen plenty of teams do well on first drives, then to barely do a thing right the rest of the game, and vice versa. But I do feel that there are higher stakes on Saturday night.

Purdy started off pretty shaky, was very lucky the would be INT was dropped, seems to have settled down now though.
CMC being held fairly well so far, Deebo injured and the blocked FG sucked.
Hopefully we lift in the 2nd half.
