When the 5th round came along and west was still there I wanted him with our next pick. Thought he would of gone in 4th round so to get him as UDFA is great.

Things that need to happen to roster now:

• Jimmy G to find a new home
• Alex Mack to play or retire (if latter sign Tretter???)
• Deebo to play or go home
• Resign Tartt

There will be one more wave of FA signings I feel if Jimmy is cut/traded.

And why you judge the body of work of the draft rather than individual picks.

49ers getting hate for selecting a RB early which is based entirely on vapourware rankings of prospects rather than understanding team objectives/vision. I think there are two ways to draft, like its a trip to the supermarket and you have a budget to feed the family for the week or you look for the best value items on special and stock the pantry regardless of need (ala Ravens draft).

There are more UDFAs playing in the league than 1st rounders.....it's a numbers game.

Would very much prefer the receiver to not catch the ball in the first place.

I'm not expecting him to come in and go lights out. There will be growing pains. Changes to the game plan, other teams getting film on him etc.

We were 2-4 and 3-5 before finding late season form last season. Wouldn't shock me if there are growing pains making the transition

I am ok with 2 away games to open the season against shit teams in Carolina and Atlanta. Be nice to get 2 early away wins under our belt.

I'd take a few more L's if Trey is starter but I'm sure the call to swap back to JimmyG will be strong if we don't start well.
