Moore, Weidemann, szust, Short. Those 4 to me are must keeps.

I think I'd give that Josh Byrne another crack, he was good in the games he played till he did his knee. Hugh Ferrari, Chamberlain, Cockatoo, Aldridge, Carter and Pascoe I'd be indifferent too, happy to keep em but if they move on they move on.

I think the rest just aren't up to it unfortunately, not their fault at all.

New SANFL rules hopefully mean we improve the list.

Keep: Moore, Szust, Weidemann
Maybe keep: the good Ferrari brother

Everyone else can go

I'd keep Nick Moore, Szust (play him deep forward), Short, Weidemann, Hugh Ferrari, Cockatoo-Collins, and Pascoe.

Would hope to see Gilchrist and Cooper once though. Cooper looked good in the intra-club last season.

My son is an assistant coach for Modbury C2 grade footy side.
He said Cooper will be playing against Modbury this weekend in a qualifying final!!!
So Port are recruiting top up players from the Ammo's Div 2 (not 'A' or 'B' grades, but from the 'C' grade level)?
What have we become?

Cooper was a GWS VFL player in 2022. Was playing A and B grade for Goodwood in 2023 before we recruited him.

Does anyone know what difference these new SANFL/AFL rules will make ? How do they differ from the current arrangements?

What we need is an influx of three or four 100 game AFL/SANFL players into the Port Magpies list. Under the present set up we have too many AFL kids and sub standard top up players. Do the revised rules accommodate this?

Not official yet but I’m hearing this is what could happen.

Not sure if the pay will change, but we will have the ability to sign players delisted from the AFL straight away, instead of the past rule where they had to not play AFL for 2 years.

Also can sign 6 U21s players and 4 overage players from other SANFL clubs, even if they are best 22. Limited to 1 U21 + 1 overage player per club. The old rule was we could recruit the best ressies players from other SANFL clubs.

The 4 over age best 22 players from other SANFL clubs looks promising. If we could add 4 players with 100 SANFL games experience it should help the younger AFL listed players. The bit about signing delisted AFL players straight away is also good as we could delist a player then sign him to the Port Magpies with the prospect of re listing on the AFL list mid season. That could work well for the player and the Club.

The new rules may help in finding better top up players but if the amount we can pay them doesn't change significantly the major problem with retaining them will remain ad infinitum, ie Port find a player whether it be locally or from interstate but can only pay him the current $450ish a game, he has a good year at Alberton and then sturt, glenelg or the deadlegs offer him multiple x that, resulting in goneski, and we have to start the process all over again.

I'd like to see us pick up a genuine Ruck man on our magpie list. I dont think we've had one since Johnothan Ross. Makoi played 2 games in a struggling season.

I think this season Brazel was our only consideration of a ruck in our top up list.

The only incentive to come to Port for any top-up player is the chance to be looked at closely for the Mid-Season draft- Sutcliffe, Logan Evans etc. That doesn’t work for 10 players.

In addition, the top up players have the very real prospect of having to play parkland footy if we have few injuries. We will struggle to recruit more than a couple SANFL standard top ups.

A bloke named Jonti Scuback has left south citing "travel" but is committed to signing with another SANFL club, some rumours are he's keen to sign as a top up for either Port or Crows.

Jonti Schuback, played for Gippsland Power and Vic Country in 2022, wingman, medium defender.
