If one of the contestants had commented on the light, while they were in the room, and discussed the merit of using it to escape (vs giving away their location), I think the DS would have given them credit for thinking on their feet. They all saw it, none of them mentioned it, or thought about taking it with them.

They were specifically told to sweep the whole room, not just grab the cache. They should have realised from that instruction that there was something they were supposed to find. It was a lot less ambiguous than the double-casualty situation in the rescue exercise.
My point was more that they are told to very specifically follow orders so they do their best to just do that. I get it would show adaptability to think of the light but youre also focused on get the cache, get out, not get the cache figure out a route, plan the best way to finish that route.

Its counterintuitive to tell people to follow orders to the letter then expect them to improvise. Perhaps they tell them that off screen but from what weve seen i wouldnt be trying anything i hadnt specifically been told to do.

They were told very clearly to sweep the room, not just grab the cache. The only reason for that instruction was the presence of something the DS wanted/expected them to find.

I will happily agree that the SAR exercise was dodgy, though they were told to search the whole building. There was clearly no expectation set of finding a 2nd body. The Tunnel exercise was different, in that they were given a specific instruction, which had an obvious meaning.

I wouldn't have taken the light in that tunnel task either, it looked like it was fixed there and not something to be picked up and taken with you.

As others have said picking up the light could have also alerted the enemy to your position and the brief was to do the task in the dark.

Poo has been suuuuuper weird too. I always think anyone who does an individual sport for a long time is probably gonna wind up a bit weird.

Stock up, stock down on the whole cast

Stock Up

Isabelle Cornish - quietly going about her business, tough and i dont think shes failed a task yet?
Jana Pittman - Probably the biggest stock up for me. Redeemed herself from something (i cant remember what) but super impressive lady
Pete Murray - Unforuntate to get the injury but wanted to keep going and was rarely sighted before that (always a good sign)
Sam Burgess - Behind Jana the biggest redemption story. if you know most of his history hes not a good bloke either
Jessica Peiris - Very troubled young lady but has been good on this
John Steffensen - Always seemed brash and arrogant but comes off as very funny and hard working

Stock Hold

Bonnie Anderson - Didnt have much of an opinion of her before and thats not changed
Emma Husar - As above
Erin Holland - Id almost say stock down as i read an article about how she trained for 3 months for the show and none of that came through but she quit when she should have so play on
Heath Shaw - Love heater and expected him to be better but he hasnt disgraced himself, also rarely sighted on the dailies which is always a good sign
Jett Kenny - Barely see him, stood up to Koby a few times and generaly been okay but i expected better given his profession
Kerri Pottharst - I love Kerri, lucky enough to have met her was always gonna be tough as an older person but she didnt disgrace herself
Manu Fiedel - I actually loved his quit scene, just "nah fu** that, ive got a good life, im out i dont need this" no shame in that.

Stock Down

Koby Abberton - Again, didnt have the greatest opinion of him before hand but hes a rude, misogynistic, right wing loon
Mark Philoppousis - Just a weird guy. He seems lovely but also dull as dishwater. im glad he had some wild moments in his career cause hes so bland
Dan Ewing - Just a psuedo alpha, spiritual tough guy w***er
Alicia Molik - I thought shed be more humble and chilled out but between this and the Buckley hub rumours she just seems like a dick
Brynne Edelstein - Didnt think much of her before and shes still stock down, truly cant understand why shed do this show

Not sure why you'd have Manu as a Hold when he quit so early in the course without even giving it a proper go, I'd have him in the Down category.

A bit harsh having Scud in the Down category too, he might be a bit quiet and dull but he seems a decent bloke and has done OK at most of the tasks.

Wow! Really?
Fits the bill - former athlete with chequered past, wanting to redeem his reputation. That's the type they seem to like casting - look at Sam Burgess.

We know that Cousins was more than just a footballer. Maybe we'll see more of the Benny's Biathlon skills - running & swimming.

In semi-unrelated news, they had originally cast Michael Clarke for S3 (as the show's most highly paid contestant). Fortunately for us, unfortunately for him, Clarke injured his back while training for the show, and had to withdraw only days before filming was supposed to commence.

Feel free to do your own ranking... I did say that Manus quit was a highlight and Poo just seems like a weirdo.

I agree with most of your rankings - except Manu. He lived up to the "French surrender monkey" stereotype, giving up because he couldn't be ****ed trying, and couldn't put up with another day eating something other than 2-star michelin guide cooking. There were literally no positive moments of him in the show.

Fair, im not gonna argue with anyone else rankings, i respect a man who just says "i dont need this shit, ill go home and make some ****ing crepes".

The cheese eating surrender monkey thing was a great call though. Gotta pay that.

Manu was funny. And FWIW I would pretty much quit too- i have a big fear of like underwater stuff. omg and that tunnel NO.

I'd pretty much be ok with heights stuff. Ironically probably the more dangerous but still... thats just the way I am.

I read that Grant Kenny son guy- that was the hardest part for him- the food. He hated everything, was almost vomiting back up the oats.

Apparently he was "running on empty" for most of the series and lost a shit tonne of weight.

Can't say I blame him. I tried porridge when I was a kid, and almost threw up at the foulness. That seems to be their standard breakfast, though the other meals appear better.

I cant stand oats. Or muesli. Just give me a couple weetbix and banana- Id be happy with that.

Would be interesting to see the SAS staff doing a body cavity search to see if Ben's hiding drugs up his arse like he did when he went to rehab one time.

If you have a fear of the dark, heights or going underwater you probably shouldn't be signing up to do the show.

I wouldn't have had a problem with that abseiling task they did last night, I've done something similar before and it can be quite good fun if you know what you're doing, going down backwards is a lot easier than going down frontwards though.

Going into that dark tunnel would have been scary if you were doing it on your own but doing it with a group of people would make it a lot easier.

I felt for the guys for that tunnel task. I mean bigger shoulders = harder time in the tunnel. Amirite.

Burgess took ages, the poor guy. Almost needed the jaws of life.

I would've found that task difficult as I'm an ex-rugby player and have big shoulders like him, he had a shoulder injury too which made it even harder.

Ah yeah true, forgot about that. Was a good effort by him, even tho he did take a long time.
He literally had to worm his way forward, cm by cm. It's not the least bit surprising that it took him a long time.

What impressed me about it was his lack of panic. Even when he thought he was stuck, and was unable to move further forward, there was still no sign of panic in his voice. He remained calm, and worked the problem, regardless of how long it took.

Have you guys seen Zero Dark Thirty???

/random comment- but its awesome. That final scene where they get Bin Laden- was just amazing watching that at the cinemas.

Found myself literally holding my breath.

The final scene was also filmed to the second on how long it actually took to take out Bin Laden. Think it was like 28 minutes.

Also the movie was originally written about the unsuccessful hunt for Bin Laden but was re-written once he was killed.
