I wouldn't normally consider a 2nd year player who has appreciated from 83k to 500k+, but it's getting awfully hard to simply write off Broughton just because he may not have much upside.

His nab cup scores were brilliant, 85(~96),83(93),112(126), 108 with the normalisation values for nab cup matches in parenthesis. *no normalisation for the 4th match as champion data has normalised all challenge matches already.

I can see him being similar to enright. I don't see much upside in enright either but you get him because he is a proven performer and will bring in regular scores every week.

granted he only played 15 games last year, but he appeared to have cemented his spot in the side throughout the second half of the year, not missing a single match.

Anyone have any opinions on him? Duffield seems to have cropped up in a few teams, but i have not once seen broughton listed in a team. Is he likely to cop a forward tag perhaps?

*This was posted in the "premium defenders" thread however interest appears to have come to a halt so have brought it over here.

Had Newman locked as one of my first picked for the past few years, but I'm starting to second-guess his prospects this year. Are there better DEF prospects around his price-range (already have Enright)?

Should i downgrade heath shaw to harry obrien??

also out of the 3, joel macdonald, heath shaw and harry obrien ... pick 2/3

3 different price ranges mate, bit difficult to compare them. 500k vs 421k vs 374k. Shaw is a premium and competing against the likes of hurn, enright, duffield, broughton and co for a spot. McDonald competing against gram, waite, even maybe gilbee. Obree is more in the under-valued, future upgrade to keeper range

This is my defense opionions would be helpful..

Goddard,H.Shaw,Hodge, Joel Mcdonald, Harry Obrien, Malceski, Matt Maguire

(Jordan Lisle,Silvagni)

i could swap malceski for ladson and get corey enright instead of heath shaw

jinny1 - Looks good IMHO. Harry O is a good option - quality player & in great touch pre season.
Not sold on MacDonald & Malceski (both highly popular) Much better options for there respective prices. Malceski burnt me badly last year - so I just don't trust him.
Don't know if Silvagni has been elevated yet - if not Nason could be a option. Lisle will more than likely play R1.

Gram/Harbrow/Carrazzo for MacDonald
Mitch Brown/Hunt/Greenwood/Hooker for Malceski.

I'm looking at rookies & guns in the backline, so Ive steered clear of the Malceski price range. Gram is my #6 & Waters #7.

I like this backline, particularly the selection of Hooker, who seems to have improved over the offseason - has had some great nab cup/challenge scores.

I have Macdonald in my team atm, but I think I'll take him out; he hasn't had the best durability over the years and only scored well once, which was in '08.

Played all 22 last year and 17 in '08.

IIRC he seemed to struggle when Drummond was in the team as he was the designated rebounder, but flourished when Drummond was out (which was quite often). Can anyone confirm this recollection?

I can confirm this.

If anyone can shed any light on why he missed both Rounds 3 and 4 of the NAB Challenge, it would be greatly appreciated.

That's pretty much right. Last year was tough because we played him as a KPD when Patfull and/or Merrett was injured, plus Drummond was available for most of the year. When Drummond was out for the majority of the year, MacDonald stood up in his place and was brilliant (both on field and in SC, knocking out regular tons).

My Defence is:

Goddard, Broughton, Enright, Hurn, Hodge, Malceski, Waters (Maguire, Salvagni)

Thinking of changing Malceski for Hunt and maybe Broughton for Newman or Grimes, another option is having Kennelly instead of Malceski or Hunt and downgrading Broughton to a Harbrow or Mattner..

Thoughts?

Hope you didn't go with Newman...

Very strong backline. I don't think Broughton's price will drop much, his preseason scores have shown that last year wasn't a once off. He's a better option that Grimes IMO. Malceski's more risky than Hunt, but probably has a higher possible return. I think the only reason to downgrade Broughton would be if other areas of your team need some cash injected.

I'm trying to work out which premium to select for my 3rd/4th back, alongside Enright, Hurn and Hodge. I'm really struggling to come up with an option. I have about 580k left but only want to use 520k max for this pick. Any thoughts on possible selections? Thanks
