Analysis Scott Selwood Debate

Selwood was good?! I'm starting to think people have lowered there expectations for him considerably.

If that was a good game from Scott, consider me Miles Davis.

The bloke gives 110% and it kills me to say it....but it doesn't cut it anymore. As a poster above said, Simpson has us going with better skills and quick ball movement, something Scooter has never been crash hot at. Sorry fella :(

WEST Coast is set to throw a major spanner in Geelong’s free agency plans by matching the Cats’ bid for on-baller Scott Selwood.

Selwood’s departure would likely earn the Eagles a second-round draft pick (based on an expected $400,000 contract). But their surge up the ladder up the ladder this year means that compensation choice would be as low as pick No. 35 or No. 36

Geelong could be forced to satisfy the Eagles with an earlier second-round selection to nab Selwood.

West Coast list manager Craig Vozzo on Tuesday told the Herald Sun: “We will seriously consider that (matching the Cats’ free agency offer) at the appropriate time”.

Interesting. I'm actually not opposed to keeping him around now that it's obvious he won't be keeping the likes of Sheed (and probably Duggan) out of the team. Gives us some depth. That said, it sounds like we just want to extract maximum value from the trade. Surely the club would have come out with "he's a required player" etc if they were determined to keep him.

It's not so obvious, thought, that's the problem. He's clearly injured now, but who's to say he won't be given gold card treatment again at the start of next year if they think he's fit enough?

Hopefully they demote him from VC if they keep him on, and just allow him to work his way back to form/fitness through the WAFL.

To be honest I don't care what we get for Selwood. I'd be happy with a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick.
What are you smoking mate. He is a Vice Captain and a 2nd round compo pick is likely to snare us pick #35+

Craig V will be looking at a much netter deal than that.

I'm happy to keep him instead of a mid 30's pick F&%k that!

Don't give up your day job

Yeah, ditto. 2nd rounder would be great, third (compo) pick..... probably not, its a funny situation.
Surely we want to squeeze the most out of this trade as possible. Play the club champion best 22 card.
I don't know why WC are trying to squeeze geelong for. I thought we always had a great trading relationship with them.

Apart from needing the pick to *maybe do a trade, I cannot see why WC are making such a fuss. Surely he is surplus to our needs now, and he won't play in the granny so the Cats won't feel they need to make a play for him that will cost them, worst case scenario, WC keep him and he plays for a club he is pissed off with because he didn't get to where he wants to. Just smells bad.

Cool you disagree, but throwing cyber haymakers makes your opinion more valid?

Do I give up my day job when I am cool with him going? Why the **** do we want to keep him if he wants to go? I don't give a damn if he is our VC. Not as if he is having an impact on field, he maybe good off it, but we have lots of blokes to take care of that.

Don't give up your day job mate. ;)

Lol you're throwing out the baby with the bathwater if you think your argument is cogent.

We keep him because he can play and he will. He is on 400k+ a year and he is still in our top 5 mid fielders who has had injury issues.

If we trade him WC will not trade for under #25 and that is still a great deal. I trust Craig Vozzo!

No he's really not. In fact out of the midfielders who've played for us this year he'd be lucky to crack the top 10

If we pull off what is essentially a straight swap between Selwood and Jetta, I'll be doing floor-cartwheels like Homer Simpson.

My argument is definately not cogent, and for that I'm glad.:D
He can play, just not as well as he once could. I don't think he is anywhere near top 5, especially with the more skilled mids we have now. He has been hobbled by injury and that is unfortunate. VC is totally irrelevant. I trust Vozzo too.
We will see.
I certainly wish Scott all the best, I hope he gets where he wants to go.
