Pretty handy to have a club B&F as depth going into a finals campaign. Thought he did his job last night. A great effort considering how little time he's spent playing in the top league in the last 3 years and had 5 days of recovery since his last game. As an in for Priddis, if we had all the other guys available, I'd rather have him starting in a final than McGinnity, Tunbridge or Duggan (for now, Duggs is too inexperienced to carry as a starting mid).

He played good, but unlucky for him Hutch was close to our best. I think he should be dropped but I will definitely feel bad for him. Sheed did miss him numerous times and players like Mitchell and Gaff were all bombing the ball long, it's just how the game went, it was intense.

People are so blinded that they remember his errors but wash over everyone else's.

As joeyavalanche said, it's true that Sheed & Selwood had similar games - 19 disp each, for example. But Selwood is the VC and is far more experienced. He did play better, with no major screw ups, but I wouldn't call him anything more than decent.

There was a link to abc Saturday agenda in the Adam Simpson thread. Chris Scott was one of the panelists. 17 mins or so in he mentions the players without a big reputation on the east coast: "I thought Selwood was quite effective".

Bodes well for Band 1 compo?

Come on really? Duggan showed more skill and class in his few games this season than Selwood has in his entire career. If Duggan was fit I'd have no doubt that he's best 22.

I agree he is the one that should be dropped but he wasn't the only one spraying kicks. Sheed, Gaff, Scooter, Nicnat, Schoey, Shuey and plenty others threw it on the boot more than once. If he'd had a set shot like Kennedy's everyone would be calling for him to be sacked.

He should be dropped, but try watch the game properly instead of negating his whole game.

Sheed burned twice him with crap handballs and put him under unnecessary pressure. But he also had a couple of really poor kicks himself and still seems content to either try and get the free for high contact when facing a tackler or just wear the tackle and lie on the ground which is pretty poor.

Selwood showed toughness but he always dives hoping for a free.
His kicking is still terrible.

Played ok and did a job, but was 21st best ahead of McGinnity. He laid a damn good tackle on Hodge or Lewis in the final quarter, makes me wonder why he can't do that more often.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. Appreciated his hard work at the contests but with Priddis and Masten to come back in, Scooter just isn't good enough with the ball in hand to justify playing in the best 22.

From watching the game again, to me it seemed like he was definitely the weakest link in our midfield.

Decision making and disposal is just not good enough for our side at the moment. He has missed a lot of football so may get back into it in time, but the difference between having him in the team and having Masten in the team is a huge difference.

Thanks to scooter for signing my newborns jumper at the game today seems like a nice guy,I think he'll come good and hope he stays be stiff to be dropped for next
game his style suits finals tempo mcginnity and butler to make way for Priddis and masten for mine

That you Scotty?

Have a feeling Geelong have gone cold on him.

Looks like Snotty Selwood might be around for a while yet. I'm sure Simpson will find an effective role for him next season.

Snot might be the answer to get some sticky fingers, he was far too fumbly. 75% of the time he was not clean and had to double grab which just invited even more pressure

I'm no big Selwood fan, and with everyone healthy I don't think I'd have him in my team, but I thought he performed well enough on Friday to make dropping him a genuinely tough decision. Not necessarily a wrong decision, but at least not an easy one. And I say that as someone who at times has looked for reasons to roll my eyes at his play.
Given all the footy he has missed he did ok, and will be better for the 2 games he has just played. So if he ends up in the prelim I won't be upset. In fact I think he has the potential to play a meaningful role in a GF so with the prospect of a relatively soft prelim final coming up, it's almost tempting to get another game into him to give him the chance to stake a claim.

Regardless, I feel like we're in a pretty nice position right now. We're looking at adding 2 quality midfielders, at the expense of someone ... whoever it may be ... who is probably unlucky to be dropped.
Contrast that with say a month ago, when the prospect of having both Selwood & Hutchings in the team would have instantly downgraded my personal opinion of our chances of winning.
