Clearly is already on the ground with ball in hand, somehow threw himself into Archers legs who was still at least 3m away at the time. I'm just wondering how Cleary managed to "throw", himself at Archers legs from so far away when already down?
To me the ball in hand is the key point. This was no contest for a loose ball. The ball had already been “won” so Archer was making a decision whether to bump or tackle - with his knees!!!!!
Had to be a suspension

Archer had so much time to decide what he was going to do once Cleary got to the ball. This wasn’t a split decision/already committed deal, he just made a stupid, brainless attack on the contest. But shinboner spirit and all that yeah?
It was the shinbones that did the damage.

I think Archer clearly didn't show Cleary appropriate duty of care.

The only potential mitigating factor in his defence, is the confusion created by the world's dumbest rule ('the forceful contact below the knees' rule), which has effectively encouraged players to get themselves into positions where opponents are likely to collide into their lower legs in order to milk a free kick.

However, even if that was a consideration in Archer's actions, he certainly wasn't caring too much about what happened to Cleary in the process.
Yep that stupid rule….brought in after a SHINBONER slid in feet first to take out an opponents legs deliberately in an absolute dog act and now we have this completely ****ed up rule that awards free kicks to the bloke who squibs the contest the most. No surprises that Dangerflog is one of the best at milking this rule

Makes me think North Fans would be calling out for blood if Luke come out of that ok and that SHINBONER leg was broken

Can’t say we should be surprised with what this clown got to say

On schedule again with a snipe at the Dogs.

Still can’t see why a bloke charging in from a long way back, with no duty of care deserves a free kick

Im neutral on the collision except for the way archer behaved immediately after... has a quick sneaky look back to see the results and probably to prepare for players flying the flag, then does a brief impression of a soccer player looking for a free "oh, we are BOTH so hurt", then when nothing seems to be coming his way, gets up and runs off like nothing happened.

reeks of steaming in to hit someone, and it going a bit wrong.

You only needed to see his hot or not table last night that had Essendope, GC, Adelaide and Melbourne in the hot section. Adelaide and GC played witches hats and Essendon are Essendon.

Of course the dogs were "lukewarm" along with Norf.
Kane is a weird little man

Well the umpires didn’t think Archer deserved a free kick and they were handing them out like candy to north all night

Surely not.

All I have read is how the umpires directly contributed to bulldogs' goals. At no point did Norf receive any assistance whatsoever.

They also nearly broke Archer's legs in a hit and run.

Reminds me of another North player from a few years back with a thug first mentality.

Apples and trees and all that.

After 15 games Bont was barely a certainty yet has become arguably the greatest Bulldog

Really? Most thought he should have won the rising star and let's be honest always looked like he belonged and was going to be a great player for the club. Had all the attributes.

By the way I'm happy with Sanders.

Bont and Macrae were key reasons we were happy to move Cooney on.

This Archer incident raises a question I think that should’ve asked years ago about the below the knees rule. It has incentivised teams to skittle themselves to get free kicks and I reckon that’s what Archer has done. He’s been coded for the last decade to recklessly attack that and punish his opponent for taking the ball at ground level.

I don’t think enough has been said about players skittling themselves for years

I wonder if the 0 or 3 penalty is right. There are so many variables. For instance, is what Archer did the same/different/worse than a player who deliberately goes past the ball, or doesn't pick up the ball, but chooses to bump the player, ?

Not sure I'll take my ethics lessons from a bloke that king hit a player in an exhibition match (Aitken from Carlton).

He was a kid back then, but there’s hundreds more examples of his churlish, agro, dickish behaviour when he was supposed to have been more mature. He should be in a statesman phase of life now, but keeps regressing to type.
Short man with a short fuse.

The question they really should be asking is how the **** is Luke McDonald still getting a game with a side that has aspirations to get out of the the cellar that they have been locked in for 15 years. The same Luke McDonald who was somehow their teams captain!

The guy is the very definition of a plank.
