Scully walks out on his contract, nominates for the draft, we recruit him and have another pick to go with it! Seriously though good news now use them wisely!

10 news, twitter, Herald Sun, SEN.

Announced 5 minutes ago so give the AFL site a few days and they'll get it up there too :rolleyes:

Hoping we use them in 2012.

I'm happy with the compo, I'd rather $cully but hey, whatcha gonna do.

And so it is...

@AFL_PKeane
Patrick Keane
Melbourne will receive First Band Compensation - a First Round selection and a Mid-First Round selection for Tom Scully.

@AFL_PKeane
Patrick Keane
W Bulldogs and Adel Crows will both receive Second Band Compensation - a First Round selection for Callan Ward and Phil Davis respectively.

@AFL_PKeane
Patrick Keane
Fremantle will receive Third Band Compensation - an end of First Round selection for Rhys Palmer.

@AFL_PKeane
Patrick Keane
There was a significant differential in contract to Scully, v Ward and Davis, and therefore compensation for Melbourne was the highest band.

To clarify...

@AFL_PKeane
Patrick Keane
A rd1, 2 or 3 compensation selection is placed immediately after the pick of that club in that round in the year it is activated.

@AFL_PKeane
Patrick Keane
A mid rd1 selection is placed after the 1st rd1 pick of the highest-ranked club that misses finals, and before the 1st rd1 pick of team 8.

a First Round selection and a Mid-First Round selection for Tom Scully

can anyone clarify what 'a first round selection' means exactly?? obviously mid means around 7-9.

"Fremantle will receive an end of First Round selection for Rhys Palmer"

They use the terms 'mid' and 'end' so i am guessing 'a first round selection' means high up 1-3... surely they would add 'end of first round' if it was a late pick.

To be honest these picks are rubbish. If they are taken this year they are at the end of round 1 which is in the 20's or 30's. So that is not much good in a weak draft year. If we have success next year then they will be low picks again so we can't win unless we are garbage again.....I am getting tired of being garbage.

I am not happy at all with these picks. No way would we accept these two picks for Jack Trengove. We need to trade these picks IMO.

Ruling in full

Unless we use one or both on one of the 17 year olds from GWS or there is somebody too good to pass up on the trade table, then I hope we hold onto them for a bit. This isn't the draft to use them in.

You don't seem to understand.

We can't take them this year and we wouldn't anyway but next year is going to be a very strong draft in which we could have 3 first round picks inside the top 20. One of those 3 first round picks will be Jack Viney (the last first round pick) and the draft will be uncompromised meaning that finishing 8th will net us picks 9, 10 and 11.

Middle of the 1st round pick 18 teams - Pick 9 potentially depending on who else activates their pick and where they finish.

Our first round pick - Finishing 8th would get us 9 but due to our compo pick it's now 10.

Pick immediately following our first round pick - Pick 11

If that's how it works and goes down, I would be rapt.
