Then
Sean Pollock just prior to the last World Cup average 22.88. One of the top 3 ODI bowlers in the world. His three series prior to the World Cup saw him take 3/12 and 3/23 against Pakistan, 4/18 and 3/40 against Sri Lanka, 4/24 against Bangladesh.

Now
Pollock at the end of the World XI series average 24.38. In his last 33 ODI games he has taken 3 or more wickets just once in an Asia v Africa ODI match and one of those wickets was a Bangladesh player. Natwest Series in 2003 against England and Zimbabwe just 4 wickets in 6 games. 2 wickets in 6 games in New Zealand in March last year. 8 wickets in 7 games against England and 4 wickets in 5 games against West Indies in South Africa's last two ODI series.

He's definitely not at the top of his game, but is probably better than most of the bowlers in his domestic league. Besides, what he's dropped in bowling, he more than makes up for in leadership and batting.

Talking to some South African mates in England, they were just gutted that Pollock was the scapegoat for that world cup.

Fantastic cricketer and person, but seems to lack confidence in his own leadership skills since his axing.
