Season 2008

Remove this Banner Ad

Well readers, the penultimate TDFL 2008 round and the five teams to contest the senior finals series is set in stone. Well done to Kiewa, Mitta, Dederang, Barny & Tallangatta on fine seasons. Bad luck to Chiltern & Beechworth on missing our after promising form for most of the season. Great to see such a competitive even League (unlike a neighbouring League to the North) with a few upsets this week and most teams having some chance of finals representation.

Seniors:
Kiewa: Can sew up top spot by beating Barny. Highest: 1st. Lowest 2nd. Likely 1st.
Mitta : Can pinch top spot back if Kiewa get beat with victory over Tallangatta. Highest: 1st. Lowest 2nd. Likely 2nd.
Dederang: Can sew up 3rd with a win over Chiltern. Highest: 3rd. Lowest 5th. Likely 3rd.
Barny can pinch 3rd spot (and double chance) from Dederang if they can beat Kiewa and Dederang lose to Chiltern. Highest: 3rd. Lowest 5th. Likely 4th.
Tallangatta: can finish 3rd if they beat Mitta and both Dederang & Barny get beaten comfortably. Highest: 3rd. Lowest 5th. Likely 5th.
Prediction:
Kiewa
Mitta
Dederang
Barny
Tallangatta

Reserves:
Mitta: will finish on top.
Barny & Kiewa will finish 2nd & 3rd and neither can move, however interesting to see the result when they play each other this week as they are guaranteed to meet again a week later in the qualifying final. Cagey old coaches Blunden & Barber may be keeping a few tricks up their sleeves this week ;)
4th & 5th are interesting, as there is a plethora of possibilites depending on this weeks results, with 4 sides looking for 2 spots. It's confusing but here goes:
Chiltern: Currently 4th can sew up an elimination final berth by beating 9th placed Dederang.
Wodonga Saints: Same us above can be there by beating Thurgoona.
Yack: Can make it courtesy of a superior percentage if Chiltern or Wodonga get beat and they beat Wahgunyah.
Thurgoona: Can make it if they beat Wodonga and Yack geats beat.
Likely:
Mitta
Barny
Kiewa
Chiltern
Yack

Thirds
Beechworth: On top, safe.
Barny: 2nd, safe, can't move.
Fight for 3rd spot is on between Wahgunyah & Dederang. Wahgunyah can sew it up by beating 5th placed Yack and Dederang can pinch it by beating 7th placed Chiltern if Wahgunyah slip up.
Yack will finish 5th.
Likely:
Beechworth
Barny
Wahgunyah
Dederang
Yack.

Fourths:
Beechworth: on top & safe.
Kiewa: Safe in 2nd.
Yack: Safe in 3rd.
Thurgoona: currently 5th but are safe as they get 4 points v Wodonga Saints this week.
The big interest is in Rutherglen and Mitta for the last spot.
Rutherglen currently 4th but play all-conquering Beechworth and will stay in finals as long as they don't get smashed & lose too much percentage.
Mitta can only get in if they belt Tallangatta and Rutherglen get belted by Beechworth.
If Mitta win 70 to 20, and Rutherglen get beat 120 to 20 their percentage will be about the same.:eek:
Likely:
Beechworth
Kiewa
Yack
Rutherglen
Thurgoona

If these predictions are accurate the only team not to have finals representation will be Wodonga Saints, however they are a big chance to get their twos in. The only other clubs at risk of missing out are Rutherglen (if their 4ths don't make it) and Chiltern (if they 2's get knocked out). Good for the League.

Best do some work now, boss is heading this way.

Nice work AP, very impressed with your summary of the situation for all 4 grades of TDFL. But you left out the 5 netball grades!.... haha:D

Unfiortunately the season winds up for us this weekend with our game against Beechworth. We simply must put in a more competitive effort than we did against Yack on the weekend. Congratulations to Duane Moloney who plays his 100th senior game this weekend and Scott Thompson and Gavin Tafft who did so earlier in the season.

With Mitta dropping the last 2 it makes the upcoming finals series that little bit more interesting and I am looking forward to getting out to Sandy Creek and watching some good TDFL finals footy while enjoying a carlton draught can or 2.

With the league best and fairest coming up I would be interested to know who people think might poll well.

And also who is expected to figure prominently in club best and fairests. For the Cats I think Matt Glossop has had a great year and should take out the B & F down at Barkley Park for 2008.

Wodonga Saints are an easy club to bag or ignore because obviously we haven't won too many games over the last few years. But yesterdays win just gave our club some hope that all is not lost. Our last few weeks we have come close to winning but yesterday made this season worth playing for.
The seconds will be in the finals, the seniors will win next week and hopefully this will give us some momentum for next season.
Well done to all involved

Interesting to see Wahgunyah still can't beat the Saints........

Well done Bethanga. :)

Someone needs to get this thread going and............clear!!!

Cammo to be a late withdrawal for KSC, as well as another big name possibly! Good luck to all teams in their final hit outs for the H&A season.:thumbsu:

Thurgoona have signed Danny Hargraves as coach for next season announced at training the other night. Two Bob will be a great pickup fpr the dogs, and a good replacement for Wightman who seems destined for Jindera as is the hot word about town

Good wins to KSC and DBM - dont know of any others just yet.
Strong whisper among the kiewa faithful is that Simon Bone will not be coaching KSC next year.

Would that be in a non-playing capacity bfox?Danny would have to be close to 40 wouldn't he?Been a very good player in his time so the Dogs would be clicking their heels together i would imagine.

I said on this thread weeks ago that Paul Twycross will be coaching Kiewa next year

Unless of course he goes back to Chiltern now that the job appears to have opened up. Given that Brendan Way has committed to Raiders to get his 200 surely Twycross would be next on their hitlist.

Mitta b&f last night. Alex Beggs won the seniors Tom Paton runner up. Brad Steel won the reserves Luke Fellows runner up

Rutherglen Best & Fairest

Seniors
1. Matt Glossop
2. Mark Donaldson

Reserves
1. Tony Fulton
2. Jason Shelley

Good luck to our fourths in the elimination final this sunday.

Am just sitting at home thinking about what an inspirational speech I am missing out on by Mr Maddock at the League Presentation tonight. One of the highlights of the year when he takes the microphone.
Heard there was a leak today from the Executive and Jake Mounsey will win with 30 votes.

Mounsey hasnt been out of DMB,s best players too many times this season so would be a deserved winner.
Goonan,Dicketts,Cusworth and Brad Dalkin may well take some votes from him.
Also he doesnt kiss the umpires asses as much as a few of the big name players in the comp.

Cameron McNeil from Barny won the medal from Mounsey of Dederang. And yes, Mr Maddock didn't disappoint with his own special brand of verbal magic.

Lets not forget run straight the inspirational speech in which Jen Dale gave from the Indigo shire. I think a couple of your boys may have passed a couple of schooners her way prior to her speech.
