We would hope to improve on last years 5 wins and like all the other clubs apart from the Hill climb a few spots........but we do cop Bannock, North, Thomson, Werribee, BPH and East twice.
Makes it tough, thanks Neville:(

Did Belmont sign butch Shaw? Inverleighs full forward jon ansall signed with blue west

I've heard alot of people say that west are chasing them & throwing some big money around but no one has committed to them..

Any one want to try have a crack at the ladder end of 2013? Grand finalest? Whitley medal? Goal kicking?

Start off with the ladder,I don't see any changes with the top 2 teams.. 3rd to 6th will be a juggle depending on the draw of each team ..7th to 12th found it to be real tuff with not much news coming from the bottom 2 teams....Winch and Corio big improves... good luck with your thoughts on the ladder

BPH ( to strong great depth)
Thomp ( recruited well 4 from a strong Newtown res team)
East Gee ( covered all there losses )
Inver ( plenty off good u/18 players stepping up to snr footy )
North ( good players returning back to club after playing GFL)
Werr( unsure who they picked up but always seem to recruite ok)
Banno. ( good young side but lost a few players)
Corio. ( recruited well )
Anakie ( lost to many players )
Winch( recruited well but started a far way back from the rest of the comp)
Belmont( not much news, Butch Shaw handy recruite)
G- West( have not heard much about them)

Premiers- BPH ( Roughy North)
Whitley- Forbes ( roughy Bourke Corio / Johnson East )
Goal Kicking-Forbes/ Chaplin-Birch (Roughy Breguet North but Carke will hurt he's chances)

Mansfield Football Club Geelong and District Football League Vanderklooster, Tim Pending 2013-02-05
is this the former north melbourne listed player ?

Hi guys, new to Big footy.just wondering why the Gdfl lacks variety with the fixture? My club has the exact same draw from 2010! Surely they can mix it up more than that. Has pretty well ended their chances before they begin

Not looking to dodge sides. Same teams every year in finals usually, if the draw is on a 3 year cycle then I guess it is tough to break in to the 5

totally agree. I think its time the league looked at giving the teams outside the 5 a chance with a easier draw. Have a look winch has to play bph and east in rd1 and rd2 after not winning a game last year. Football geelong would never do that to a bottom team.

Even breaking the draw up after the first run through of 11 games with a 3 (finalists) and 4 non finalist from the previous year would be fairer to the lower teams. Surely this can't be that hard

A few clearances into Thompson on the GDFL page. & is that Robert Wood from Lara to bell post hill?? He will kick 50-70 goals if he can stay out on the track

Tim Vanderklooster has a clearance pending with Winch, not Bannockburn. Should add a bit of height with Menschy but he was quite injury prone when he was at Ammos a few years back.

tampering with the draw to enhance lower teams is crazy. say you finish just above the threshold - hard pill to swallow watching a team that finished lower than them get a free ride.
only way to even the draw would be to play teams twice (24 game season), or split the comp in 2 and play each team in your zone twice, teams in the other zone once. (15 games) with a short season you could play a final 6.

my opinion, a 24 game seaon would be better - most teams play 3 praccies anyway.

In my opinion, a 24 game season wouldn't be practicle. You would expect most clubs to have quite a few people still playing cricket right up to the week prior to easter so would struggle to field full strength sides for the first few rounds. And if you went the other way and extended the completion of the season, you end up possibly playing on AFL grand final day. And you'd have to agree, nobody would want that.

6 clubs will agree with me and 6 clubs wont but i think the top 6 from previous season should play each other twice and the bottom teams once and vice versa for the bottom 6.

I believe it was brought up at the delegates meeting but knocked on the head.

It would even up comp abit but could be unfair on a team finishing 5 or 6 who loses players and slides down the ladder. What do you guys think?

Also I dont know how it can happen in a 12 team comp that Winch and Belmont only played each other once in 2012 and only play each other once again this year? Neville?

I agree with all the comments about this. But at the end off the day if u can't beat anyone in the top 5 in the home away season u don't deserve to be playing finals anyway. The draw repeats itself every 3 years some years are easier draws than others. Whinch have picked up well so for example sides that have pencilled in a win for this year against them might have to change there view on that or they will end up get-tin beatin. No club should really worry about the draw too much if they believe they have the list too play finals if u can't beat the top 5 in the home and away there's a very good chance u might not beat them in finals. Obviously in saying that finals are a totally different ball game.

Fair enough Mr Devil, good point, but at this stage all the top 5 from last year look like being really strong again so to copy them all in a row in rounds 1-6 is a hard start to the year for any clubs in the bottom 2102 six teams. Belmont only has to play you once so going by your recruiting that might be a good thing...... Hopefully round 9 at Winters Reserve is a ripper.

That is true #1 gdfl fan, but its pretty sad that the draw is in a 3 year cycle. I also know that my team has 2 out of the 3 years are impossibly hard, the last 10 years the top 5 would be made up of about 7 of the competing teams and the rest nearly non existent in finals appearances

If you can't beat any one in the 5 you don't deserve to be there so for that case there is nothing wrong with the draw
I agree that regardless of how the draw is, you need to be able to match it with the top sides in order to play finals, however what I am getting at is that the GDFL should atleast looking at a more varied draw instead of a 3 year rotation. It's seems a little lazy on their behalf.
