The Border Mail is reporting today that Craig Ednie is sticking with Yarra after signinig a lucrative contract with Mulwala. What a selfish decision!!!

Poor Mulwala, they sign their man, commit sizeable money to him then he back flips a couple weeks out from preseason matches. Do players realise that once money is commited clubs are hamstrung in there ability to recruit, or they feel that there recruiting is complete. So now Mulwala is left with a heap of money but no one to chase, at this stage 99% of players are commited. So while Ednie going back to Yarra is great for the pigeons, it proabaly means a pretty lean year for the lions. Selfish!!!!

Not trying to be a smart arse but I ctually thought this would happen as soon as it was confirmed that Fev had signed with Yarra

Hi

I live in Melbourne and am playing footy up in the country this year and heard a rumour about a group of country players from different leagues training together at Gosch's Paddock in Richmond.
1. Is this true?
2. If so, can anyone train there?
3. What times do they train?

Cheers

A contract is only enforceable if the player has been cleared to the club. Massive loophole.

Correct, Albert. The contract is between Mulwala and Ednie only. This being the case, neither the MFL, the O&M nor the VCFL have the ability to enforce a clearance or prevent Ednie from playing for Yarrawonga if they haven’t cleared him.

A contract is legally binding however and I think Mulwala could choose to pursue Ednie through the courts. What a club might gain from this is not clear to me as I'm not aware of any precedents. I also suspect that most (if not all) football clubs would not want to tread this path due to the costs and uncertainty.

I wonder if Ednie will be apologising and giving Mulwala first chance at gaining his services in 2013? Particularly if he gets his fairytale premiership this year.

Ednie is back at Yarra to have one last attempt at an O&M flag along with plenty of other senior players who will follow him to Mulwala next year shall they lose.. I can see where he is coming from but if they don't win it this year, which i personally don't think they will even make the grand final he will look like a royal goose. He was on close to 2K a game at Mulwala and its pretty hard to see him on much less at Yarra especially when their match payments are 400k+ a year. Early reports are that Yarra are giving Mulwala thousands to release him for his services in 2012. $$$$ Tripp must be getting sick of handing this money over for the past 3-5 years and getting no reward only to happen again in 2012. Starting to get embarrassing for the club and himself.

Easy one - release him back to Yarra - save the dough - never there for the right reasons - move on - that is the footy world we live in! Mul need to take a good hard look at themselves if they signed him for that amount. For goodness sake

Are you the treasurer of the footy club mate? And why would Yarra give Mul anything, he hasn't been cleared so he doesn't need to be released before he plays for Yarra. As touched on before I can't see Mul going to the courts over this.

is this the cue that everyone starts bagging yarra (ala albury) for spending up and destroying the competition.....yawn.........

Can anyone shed anymore light on weather Fev will actually play in the 1st round with "The Border Mail" reporting he may have to miss round 1 due to suspension ?
Im sure that will jolt Yarra's chances of the bumper Easter gate they were looking for ??

Fev played for waratahs on the weekend (and kicked 9 in a losing side), and to the best of my knowledge wasn't reported, so cant see how he could possibly be under a suspension cloud..?

The whisper is he will remain a Casey player for the first couple weeks of the season and serve his suspension in the VFL, before being cleared to Yarrawonga for round 1 of the O and M season. A little cheeky, but supposedly within the rules.

Interesting read on the herald sun website about myrtleford offering to pay fev to play against them.. No doubt they'd probably recoup their money, but they'd also put themselves at a considerable disadvantage in regards to a win.

Sacrificing a game for money's sake, shows how desperate country footy clubs are to meet their financial requirements.

Ed Barlow the former Bulldog and Sydney swan has put pen to paper on a deal with Wangaratta magpies. Some how it's slipped under the radar of the local newspapers.

Do the border cut and paste the start of their articles?

Using the "the worst kept secret in o&m" is getting a bit old don't you think?
Used for fev now Barlow!
