There was a game on at Warby, unsure who played
I had a look at junction, no scoreboard but looked like a close game against whoever they were playing

Long time lurker.

Lot of negativity and untruths about Powelltown.

Why does everyone want an opinion on this. Seasons still a month away 16 training on Thursday gives us every right to keep going.

Upset about getting belted and rather than get better hope we fail.

Unlucky Vultures unlucky.

Outer East league: Powelltown looking forward to a strong 2024 season

One of the Outer East league’s most successful clubs in recent seasons has given an update on its situation after struggling for numbers over summer.

“We’re not going anywhere,” trumpeted the message on Powelltown Football Netball Club’s Facebook page.

Powelly — the reigning back-to-back OEFNL Division 2 premiers — say they are ready to attack season 2024 “all guns blazing”, despite being down on player numbers.

After losing a raft of players over the off-season, there was speculation Powelltown would struggle to field two teams.

But the club has put out a statement of assurance.

“The 2024 season for the Powelltown Football Netball Club is going ahead in our brand new pavilion, all guns blazing,” the club posted on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s no secret our numbers have been a little low, and now we need you. Footballers, netballers and volunteers, get registering. Past players, new faces and anyone that just loves football, netball and a close-knit community, come and join us.’’

Powelltown — situated in a tiny town with a sawmill, a church and a few houses — declared its “spirit and commitment’’ alive and well after its pavillon fundraiser event on Friday night was well attended.

Outer East league chief executive officer Brett Connell said Powelltown would field two football teams in 2024.

“We met with them twice in February and, look, they’ll be skinny on netball numbers but their footy, they’ll field two sides,’’ he said.

“They won’t be of the quality or standard they’ve been in previous years because they’ve lost a few…but they’ve got numbers.

“There is a bit of speculation running around but we’ve been told by them face to face that they’ll be fielding this year.

“We keep in weekly contact with them and the crunch will come when they start having practice games but they have every intent to field at this stage.’’

Powelltown beat Alexandra 17.12 (114) to 15.11 (101) in a high-scoring shoot-out to hoist the 2023 OEFNL Division 2 flag last September.

It was a fairytale end for Powelltown playing-coach Jarrod Bayliss, who announced he was stepping down.

He has since joined Eastern league club Coldstream as playing-coach and Powelltown premiership players Brock Castree, Gary Conyers, Jake Sheriff and Dylan Sverns have followed him there.
Other key Powelltown players to move on include Michael Fowkes (Silvan), Russell Cowan (Upper Ferntree Gully), Joel Perry (The Basin) and Justin van Unen (Kilsyth).

Powelltown appointed a new coach last November, with long-time captain and league medal winner Ben Wratten taking on the top job.

James Ashby and Brendan “Spud” Murphy were locked in as his assistants.

Wratten has worked hard over summer to rally the troops and said he was looking forward to giving opportunities to young players.

Good luck to Powelltown.

Not sure about the league relying on chats. Surely they have to be better than that. The names need to be in the system.

And a small one but fair dinkum, a “fairytale” finish for the old coach? Any coach who leaves a club in the state he has is a joke, no matter what he won. Disgraceful.

Ok do they ask other clubs if they have numbers?

Two flags ❤️💙
