SEASON 2024

SnakeMan86 played finals in a crappy 6 team reserve’s competition
Pretty sure they were sold a dud about the AFL OE Northern division
Not sure they are saying fk it let’s have a year off, but looking after the best interest of the club moving forward.
You say they were reliant on Yea players but no affiliation in 2023, so not sure what you are on about in fielding 2 sides
They did that and played reserves finals like you pointed out
I asked the question if it was a case of relying on Yea players as they just managed to get 2 sides together with them.. now that Yea are back, Broadford may go into recession... it's a fair question.

SnakeMan86 they didn’t have any Yea players this season and had 2 full sides
Nothing to do with Yea, Yea folded in 2022 and the excess Yea players went to Broadford (if I recall correctly, though someone closer might be able to provide more info)

This is where AFL Vic are rather toothless. A club can't remain where they are yet other leagues won't allow them in. AFL Vic are supposed to be there to sort these issues out aren't they?

Amazing they allow this to happen. Still can't understand how clubs can vote on who they chose to play.

I understand the KDL clubs' stance and that of the NFNL. In both those leagues and the OE too, travel is the reason why they won't get a look in by the majority of clubs.

The Riddell league is geographically their best fit by a long way but they left there apparently over exorbitant fees, but that was under AFL Goldfields and that issue has been eradicated. Things have changed a lot in the RDFNL since they left there.

The other alternative is a Seymour District league (like the old Waranga-North East league) but that ship has probably sailed by now.

It will depend on the affiliation agreements that the leagues have with AFL Vic and what powers that hands AFL Vic. Most leagues are basically "owned" by the competing clubs and their constitutions give the clubs the power to admit or reject new members. The league could sign an agreement with AFL Vic to give them that power but I doubt any would unless forced into it.

Plus a couple of leagues are still unaffiliated with AFL Vic I believe, the OEFL was but has now signed on.

It's all changed a bit, back in the day the leagues were part of the VMFL or VCFL and the affiliations and powers may have been different. Those bodies were dissolved (along with the VFA) and everything rolled into AFL Vic.

In a situation like this where a club is actually without a league, you would hope cooler heads would prevail and a league and it's member clubs would do the right thing and admit them, perhaps AFL Vic could assist. I agree the RDFNL is the best place for them geographically so hopefully they can work that out for 2025.

You could form a ten club league with the most local clubs, but some of the trips are long

Broadford
Yea, Alexandra, Kinglake
Wallan (RDFNL)
Kilmore, Whittlesea (NFNL) - these are by far the furthest northern NFNL clubs... Kilmore in particular in a metro league is a bit of a pisstake
Bonnie Doon (OKFL) - they're actually a long way out of the OKFL territory
Mansfield, Seymour (GVFL) - they're a long way south of the other GV clubs

But whether any of the other clubs would be interested, who knows, I imagine many are happy where they are.

Unfortunately whichever way you shuffle the deck there are going to be inequities over time in any competition and it has been sad to see the demise of the YCMDFNL over the years where they have been clutching at straws ever since to maintain numbers. Some follies include Boronia Park Worawa Marysville and perhaps more that have come and gone. Clubs going into recess with the hope of something coming out the other side good luck 😊

I’d say the complete opposite. Clubs should absolutely have voting rights over who enters THEIR league. I can’t think of anything worse than AFL dictating these sort of things. I could only imagine the moronic decisions that would be made in those cases.

Broadford joining the outer east was simply a poor decisions and it’s clearly panned out like that.

Why would Whittlesea leave the NFNL where the have been a D1 club and within 30 mins of most games to play Yea and Bonnie Doon 😆 honestly. Mansfield vs Bonnie Doon 400 - 0

How is Kilmore a “pisstake” they are
30 odd minutes from Mernda, Lalor, Laurimar, Epping etc who are or have been in their divison.

Any other new recruits announced or rumours coming around?

How we thinking the ladder will look next year now that Narre have lost a lot, Wandin lost a couple and Garner will play majority of the year with Richmond VFL. Interested to see everyone's thoughts on teams to rise and fall in premier.

Long time lurker first time poster.

I think Narre losing Richardson, Miller and Benson is huge. I think due to the quality of the club they still play finals I just don’t think they will do much damage.

I agree with 4 out of the 5 there. I dont think Officer play finals. Whilst they've recruited well, they've lost 4 or 5 guns including there best mid. I don't think they make the 5. I'd probably substitute them for either Pakenham or Upwey. Pakky kept there list and added some depth. Upwey also have kept there list, but added some real quality as well.

But my point is just that. If leagues are going to decide their own destiny, what's the point in having AFL Vic? What value do they add? Just another layer of bureaucracy taking salaries from local footy coffers...

Wandin, Narre, Woori, Emerald

The boys from Cranny are huge ins for Emerald

Can’t split Officer, Pakky and Upwey

Think Gains and Hilliard will cover the loss of Bernardo

Then the next group I would go in this order

Olinda, Mt Evelyn, Gembrook, Berwick Springs then Monbulk

Should be administered in the same way the VCFL was. Too much money is wasted on bureaucracy and not enough used on the leagues and clubs.
