Do we need to change gameplan much? Just put an emphasis on pressure over ability. We can lose a bit of finesse for some grunt and we should be able to come out on top.

The biggest thing it will mean is dropping players like Blakey if he doesn't play accountable football enough

Yes we do. How did that gameplan work when sides stopped the turnover? Good sides just forced us to beat us elsewhere, and we looked terrible at it since the halfway mark. So yes we need a change in gameplan Horse was very set in his way, not having plans B through to F hurt us.

I was talking with a relative of Dylan Moore last night and it was a great indicator that players are only as good as the opportunity they receive.
They were adamant if he didn't get swung from small forward to a wing in U-18s he would never have got a look in. The coach didn't agree to play him on the wing and after he finally pulled the trigger on it he kicked 3 goals and had 26 touches in 3 quarters of footy. Sam Mitchell was at that game and from then on Hawthorn were going to draft him.
Before that he was on no ones radar.
This person mentioned that after that positional change Sydney, West Coast, Hawks, Geelong and Brisbane were the clubs that were into him.

I think that all goes to another small being picked as a FWD, that's absolute music to my ears! Points 2 and 3 are linked to that, to have more pressure and speed you can't have 3 talls plus Grundy, it's too slow
Yep agree it sounds like a medium or small in the 6 starting forwards, given the lack of depth in the medium forwards i feel like it will be an extra small forward in Datolli that gets the run.

I want Dattoli in as soon as possible or if they must try Campbell there him. Take your pick

No it can work, turnover style produced Richmond dynasty.

Cox is saying all the things that us fans want to hear, now it is all about walking the talk.

Went from the lows of the Grand Final to cautiously optimistic. Only time will tell really.
Horse said he was going to rest players. Then he didn't.

Also nothing to suggest Horse wouldn't have made the same adjustments Cox is suggesting.

Just can't get too excited over words

They played more than one small pressure bloke! Sure it can work might want to play more than Papley up forward though! Maybe Dean Cox could do something Horse wouldn’t- realise the structure was a huge problem

So he didn’t rest players if you are you going to rest players here’s an idea actually do it don’t just talk about it. We had plenty of games we could have rested players.

Dattoli won’t be starting anytime soon. He is behind Cleary, Wicks and probably Hanily at this stage.

As a mid, no chance next year - sheldrick, Taylor and Mills ahead of any changes.

Cleary replaces Parker should t even come into it. Another tall has to go either McLean or Amartey. A small to a medium in to increase pressure. Dattoli, Campbell or Hanily in

Now the emotion of Parker leaving has passed I must say I don't hate Parker having had gone. I also wont hate if Adams, Lloyd and Rampe all get significantly reduced game time. I wouldn't be shocked if all 3 do not play next season, and I'd rather we put hours into Cleary, Wicks, Warner and Campbell if they will take us forward in the future

I think when we are back to Heeney and Hayward as the long targets down the line, we might rethink the idea of getting rid of one of the talls.

Why in the blue moon are we playing Heeney anywhere other than mid! We already waited too long to play the bloke there. Nup still getting rid of a tall, it's too slow and all 3 are next to lets say mediocre at best on ground level. You play Logan as he's the centrepiece, and take your pick between the other two I'm really non fussed which one, probably favour Amartey just as he's a little more agile.

You wouldn't play Rampe? Are you drunk? He plays and will be one of the first picked in defence. Putting hours into Wicks now I've heard it all. He's average at best

It's got nothing to do with whether or not Heeney is playing in the midfield. The wing is the midfield.

If you take one of the key forwards out, then there will be large sections of the game where we can't move the ball past the wing because we have no taller players to contest the ball.

Unless Grundy, Logan, and Amartey are never going to go on the bench.

Won't agree at all, it's up to Amartey and Logan to roam the wings and over the park up and down...and here's an idea rather than kicking it endlessly to contests another great Horse plan, use the 30m pass, and move it effectively, use your footskills. the LAST resort should be the useless contest kick. Chad would play a fair portion of half forward ideally too. If we go a bit smaller and quicker it will allow the mids to change around which was another Horse problem- he refused to change the mid dynamic, he was lucky Adams and Mills injured themselves before r1 last year, he was forced to

Every time they get the ball they are trying to find a shorter option, the opposition realise this and tend to not let those players stand on their own. Often there is no option but to go long to a contest.

And unfortunately Logan and Joel aren't Nick Riewoldt.

Playing one less tall will look fine when teams play loose on us and we can just chip the ball up the field taking uncontested marks. But against good teams that don't let you do that, it will look hopeless.

There's only no option as the game plan is poor. You change the gameplan and get it being more agile. There is always an option of not long every second but Horse has taught our players to be safe.

Is Logan Reiwolt no of course not but he doesn't have to be. Put it this way Cleary is more likely to do something than McLean running around like the slow Queen Mary.

Lets at least try the smaller structure, we need to move on from whatever Horse was doing

What's the plan when Rampe retires?

The ones we have drafted over the next few years can hopefully step in. We are in a window we aint not playing Rampe.

The problem with the 'gameplan' was if teams don't let us move the ball with uncontested marks and zig zag up the ground, then we struggle to move the ball at all.

If you take a tall out of the team, that is only going to make the problem worse.

The real problem is that our tall forwards aren't good enough, it isn't the structure of the team. They need to improve.
