The Wonders are coming off a famous 6 point win in the Foundation Cup on Saturday, holding off a fast finishing Demons for a crucial win that keeps their season on track as they celebrated their inspirational captain’s 350th game. Sitting at 2-3 heading into Round 6, they’ll be looking to ride that momentum through to the mid point of the season, after a lacklustre first month at The Colosseum. They’ll be breathing a sigh of relief this week, as a costly team sheet error very nearly saw the newly promoted Sab22 and his co-captain Dingster crap out, and earn an unexpected spell on the sidelines. But after a 9 goal effort in their thrilling win, he’s gone from bust to boom, as all was quickly forgiven in the course of an action packed afternoon.
They’ll be hosting the Bombers, who’ll be licking their wounds after a 5 goal demolition at the hands of the Hawks. With a record of 2-2 and a draw, the Bombers would be fairly pleased with their early season form after a wooden spoon season in S28, they currently sit just inside the eight. Recruit cadsky the standout at Waverley Park, with his 29 touches proving the Bombers hit the jackpot with the second year player, as he continues on with the rich vein of form displayed in the state of origin carnival in January. The Baghdad side will need to up the ante if they’re to match a powerful Wonders outfit on their home deck.
The TFLUA-Tiger medallist has continued on where he left off in Season 29, the midfield tyro forming an important partnership with second year mid Bloodied52, as they look to gel and drive the Wonders back up the ladder in S29. His average of 24.8 disposals places him at #9 overall, while his uncontested game has given him a point of difference this season, seeing him sit comfortably at #1 in the comp for marks with 8.0 per game.
Riviat – BOMBERS
The Bombers’ underrated second year gun Riviat has made an impressive start to his Season 29, having moved into the ruck for the wooden spooners as they look to reverse their fortunes. Not only is he ranked #5 for hitouts in the competition averaging 12.3 per game, but he also does plenty of damage around the ground, his 21.5 disposals per game placing him in elite company, as he sits #19 in the league and is proving to be one of the most complete ruckmen in the comp.
The Wonders' second year star and S28 All-SFA forward B52 has made the transition into the middle for S29, after proving his wares deep in the West Coast attack in his debut season. Joining TFLUA-Tiger medallist Elton Johns Wig in a formidable Wonders set up, the S28 rookie is #2 in the league for disposals, his 28.5 per game giving the Wonders plenty of supply.
cadsky - BOMBERS
The S29 recruit has slotted straight into the Baghdad midfield set up after crossing over from the Royals, and has become a crucial component of a retooled midfield as the Bombers look to erase the memory of their S28 wooden spoon. Was vital for them last week, and with an average of 20.4 disposals per game that places him at #24 in the comp. Has another gear to go, and if he can take that next step that would place him firmly in the upper echelon of the competition.
Having enjoyed a stellar S27, the eclectic Wonders mid has made a remarkable return to the game in Season 29 for the Wonders, after seasons in the wilderness. Was the difference last week as the Wonders claimed the all important Foundation Cup, his 35 touches and 2 goals just a glimpse of what he could bring this week as the Wonders look for back to back wins for the first time this season.
Antonio BlueVein – BOMBERS
The second year sensation was in scintillating form earlier in 2020 as part of a barnstorming Vic Metro side that blitzkrieged their way to a State of Origin championship and he played crucial midfield roles in that set up back in January. Has carried glimpses of that form into S29 for his Bombers, but he will be one to watch this week as he looks poised to recapture that form and push into the elite bracket of midfielders in the competition. ABV is averaging 20.0 disposals per game for Baghdad and does plenty with it.
