Discussion Season 29 was a blessing and a curse

Blessing: Headless' contribution to the league this year. Thoroughly enjoyable on so many levels. Deserved recognition for a superb season in the beez.

Change needs to occur with the All-Sweet FA side for good of the league.

The exclusion of the league's best poster due to not playing enough games in the backline, and then naming a full-time midfielder in the backline, was wrong.

It was harmful to the league longer-term.

It discourages players from playing in less glamorous positions.

It ultimately will harm retention.

We need to start acknowledging players who play in less glamorous positions.

We need to do so from Season 30, and not stop doing so thereafter.

It is ultimately detrimental to the league not to do so.

Start acknowledging players in those positions, and more active players will start being named in those positions.

More active players will be retained.

This is the single most disappointing aspect of Season 29.

Set the conditions BEFORE the season starts, and people will play in those positions.

Irrespective of outcome in Season 30, I honestly believe those behind the two expansion bids are acting in what they believe go be the best interest of the league.

I'm sure a lot of work has gone into each bid.

I find the idea of new teams and the league growing exciting, if sustainable and provided enough time.

if the side is based on best in position it goes to the people who got the highest DT in that position stats, eg most time in position + highest DT = All SFA (accountable and easy to verify)

if its based on highest DT then you get the top 20 and build a side giving prime spots to high DT= going to be all mid qunts

if its based on posting and contributions; people suck each other off and get prime spots based on relationships (this obviously sucks)

My thought is, and why I back Headless, is if I elect to play BP to give others in my team higher profile positions and go a whole season not getting big DT or recognition, but at the end of the season I am the highest ranking BP why would I be happy for a mid to take the All SFA BP spot. The people in prime spots get the reward each week seeing their names on the stat sheets and club awards. The only thing a bench player or pocket can hope for is to be the best in their role and be recognised by owning that position in the ALL SFA side. It seems rucks who are high DT earners are limited to 2 positions, and the mid field runts can just take every spot if they are concidered worthy.

People in the SFA are becomming prevliged, not only demanding prime high scoring spots in their teams but also organasational recognition.

Sure - as is meant to be the case.

At the moment, you could have the best stats for your position ever seen, have the greatest ever posting season, and be excluded for the 10th best midfielder playing completely out of position.

It doesn't make sense.
