If I were to rate the keepers yet to play test going around shield cricket I'd go:

Keeping:

1. Inglis
2. Harper
3. Gotch
4. Carey
5. Peirson
6. Doran

I haven't seen enough of Philippe or Gilkes keep in red ball cricket to make a judgement on them. Batting:

1. Gotch
2. Doran
3. Carey
4. Inglis
5. Harper
6. Peirson

Overall:

1. Inglis
2. Gotch
3. Carey
4. Harper
5. Doran
6. Peirson

It'll be interesting to see who plays for Vic.

Whiteman is already 28, need to look to the future.
Carey is not the correct option.
Ignoring Whitey's injuries which means he's not going to keep, Paine was brought back into the side at 32. Aus haven't been shy in picking aged 30+ cricketers if they're perceived as the best option.

Gotch is a much better package right now, and unless things have changed over winter, Gotch probably gets the nod.

The fact that in the recent ODI tour, Mitch’s shirt said ‘Mitchell Marsh’ instead of just ‘Marsh’ means a Shaun Marsh renaissance is still on the cards

Not sure I am ready for cricket discussion just yet. I am still working out what the best time to go to Autobarn on the weekend will be.
C'mon mate, round 3 of the Shield starts on Friday

Paine was brought back into the side to captain, although I think Head is probably the better option now that he a has a few more years playing international cricket under his belt.

I've never been able to get into cricket, just not my cup of tea, one of those sports I feel like your family has to like for you to like
It’s a very ‘love it or hate it’ sport

I tried out when I was young and afterwards mum pulled me aside and just said, "Listen mate, you're just not made for Cricket, you're more of a basketballer with your height"
I didn't play either, but mum has since admitted that she just couldn't be stuffed watching cricket every week

Um, no he wasn't. He came back into the side for 8 tests before he was made captain.

What I'm saying though, is it doesn't invalidate Carey as next in line for the test keeping position. Paine is just another example of Australia picking 30+ players (like Hussey, Voges, Miller, Bailey, McGain) as the best option at the time to fill a spot.

A man who just died is delivered to a local mortuary wearing an expensive, expertly tailored black suit.

The mortician asks the deceased's wife how she would like the body dressed. She points out that the man does look good in the black suit he is already wearing.

The widow, however, says that she always thought her husband looked his best in blue, and that she wants him in a blue suit. She gives the mortician a blank check and says, "I don't care what it costs, but please have my husband in a blue suit for the viewing."

The woman returns the next day for the wake. To her delight, she finds her husband dressed in a gorgeous blue suit with a subtle chalk stripe; the suit fits him perfectly.

She says to the mortician, "Whatever this cost, I'm very satisfied. You did an excellent job and I'm very grateful. How much did you spend?" To her astonishment, the mortician presents her with the blank check. "There's no charge" she says. "No, really, I must compensate you for the cost of that exquisite blue suit!" she says.

"Honestly, ma'am," the mortician says, "it cost nothing. You see, a deceased gentleman of about your husband's size was brought in shortly after you left yesterday, and he was wearing an attractive blue suit. I asked his wife if she minded him going to his grave wearing a black suit instead, and she said it made no difference as long as he looked nice."

"So I just switched the heads."
