Wade has definitely improved since playing as a Pure Bat.

Let's not jump to conclusions there.
Let's look at the top order from the tight match that made the difference in the last series (Adelaide) and the expected top order for this test:

Harris
Finch
Khawaja
S Marsh
Handscomb
Head
Paine

vs

Burns
Warner
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Wade
Paine

Burns, Warner, Lab, Smith and Wade have so far comfortably outperformed their counterparts. The Indian bowlers were in the form of their lives as well at the time and yet they beat arguably the weakest Australian team since WSC 2-1, one of the wins by a measly 32 runs. Australia are definitely favourites in this series.

Wade (like Phillipe now) isn't a great gloveman. WA don't pick him over Inglis in the Shield or List A matches, and he'd likely be third in line after Whiteman if Whitey hadn't injured his fingers badly.

So there's slim chance he'd be picked in the Aus test side to replace Paine. That'll likely go to Carey first unless Inglis (or someone else) overtakes him in the national selectors minds. Although Carey's playing IPL so he's missing the start of the Shield season...

As tough as it sounds, I'd be tempted to bring in young Cameron Green for Wade. The kid is something special, and deserves a chance.

Congratulations to my favourite poster in the Sweet F.A. with a name consisting of 2 letter and 2 numbers! Here's to many more TY24!
That’s a lovely if not awfully specific compliment for me to receive.

Thanks to my favourite Sarah I know, purely because women usually recoil in terror whenever I try and speak to them in real life

Phil you’re saying things that are making me very happy

Do you really think Joe Burns is a the long term answer as opener?
And Tim Paine yet to score a century.

Find a better No.2, give Head the captaincy, and bring Josh Phillipe in as keeper.
Phillipe isn’t ready for test level yet, IMO. His FC stats aren’t anything like his white ball stats. Sam Whiteman and Josh Inglis are both better keeper-bats from WA, but Alex Carey seems to be everyone’s incumbent.

Either or for me. Burns is 50/50 with Maddinson too

That 197 against a pretty strong NSW bowling line up (including Lyon) was the sealer for me. I reckon the young fella has a good temperament for Test level - give him a crack.

Some people aren’t made equal.

Near 200cms
Blonde hair blue eyes
Bowls 150 clicks
Averages 50 odd

god has given the kid a free pass in life

I agree that it's a better lineup, but we have better options on openers as well.
We'll go from Rahul, Vijay, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Rohit, Pant to Agarwal, Shaw, Pujara, Kohli, Rahane, Rahul, Gill
It's a much better lineup which are all currently all in form.

I tend to forget cricket is a thing even though I play an online cricket management game... is Andrew Symonds still playing?
Nah, now he just commentates wearing a Brisbane Heat cap regardless of whether they’re playing or not

Whiteman is already 28, need to look to the future.
Carey is not the correct option.
Haven't heard of Inglis till now.

They’re all better options than Phillipe, who isn’t a full time keeper and isn’t a lock to be picked for WA.

How's Dizzy? Shoaib Akhtar? Brian Lara?
Dizzy and Lara both featured on ‘The Grade Cricketer’ which is like the cricketing equivalent of being knighted.
