I like vodka with my watermelon. Its my daily intake of fruit and vegetables.
The tomato based sauce on your pizza counts too, pretty sure

You can make vodka from potatoes so I don't see why you can't include it as one of your five servers of veg for the day

Not so bad if the kids eat them but it's bloody frustrating when they come home with the same piece of fruit they went to school with and refuse to eat it after school because "it's gone bad".

I introduced a no fruit, no electronics policy at my place and it's starting to sink in.
This all sounds very hard.

Little Goose is still at Daycare, so this is yet to be my problem.

But given that she already goes from something being her fave to disgusting in hours, I feel lunch boxes may be problematic.

As the older kids at daycare were preparing for school late last year, they had lunch box week where the teachers can judge the parents on how half arsed they can do lunch, Im not falling for the kids getting used working out what to eat when.

We have a “have fruit if you want a snack” policy that works well.

If you aren’t hungry enough to eat fruit, you aren’t really hungry.
I'm the same. Outside of breakfast, lunch and dinner I've got a fruit first policy.

I dont have to lead by example here do I??

This can be a do as i say, not as I do thing right?

That depends. My kids have plenty of bad habits that they've picked up from my ex. The trick is to have your kids see you doing the right thing and save the chocolate stash for work.

Don't worry too much about the lunchbox snobs, as long as overall the kids are eating enough healthy stuff and you are giving them things they will eat while you are not around, it isn't anyone else's business ... as long as you are aware of, and avoid, potential allergy foods for other kids.

There will always be someone with too much time on their hands looking to show you up with what they feed their kid, all the while being blissfully unaware their kid would swap lunches with anyone else stupid enough to try a poached fig, organic goat cheese and toasted quinoa salad resting lightly on a bed of lightly dressed mixed greens that no self respecting rabbit would consider as adequate to meet your recommended daily intake of nutrients.

I had no idea how strict schools got with kids lunches till my mrs told me about it.

I would of been ****ed. My mum was always sending me off with chips, roll ups, freddos etc.. Was always swapping them with people.

Peanut butter sandwiches are a thing of the past.

Those were my lunches too - basic sandwich or roll, chips, roll ups, muesli bars etc. It's all fancy as hell now apparently. My wife was saying parents make kids sushi for lunches - I will be screwed doing that because I can barely get gladwrap over a sandwich as it is.

Hearing about all these hassles with lunch boxes almost makes me glad I don't have kids. I used to just buy my lunches from the canteen. It probably explains why I barely bring my lunch from home to work.

Pretty sure they're now strictly monitored to be a lot healthier than they used to be?

My kids go to school with my bosses kids, the eldest of whom has severe food allergies. The monitoring is less about snobbery (I live in farm country so a vegan tends to be someone you chase off your property) and more about kids being dumb enough to swap foods with each other that might make them sick.

That said, school canteens these days are a lot more conscious than my school days. Less pies and pasties and more fruit and veg. The public school in my area even does breakfast days (basically just toast) for those kids who don't get a proper meal before school at home.

It's a disgrace.

Kids should be able to have something unhealthy once a week as our lunchboxes are healthy the rest.

A lunch order is supposed to be a treat, not more of the same.
