Season 37, Round 20
We have made it. 118 days of match threads, spam, media, and drama. We opened season 37 back on February 4th and this Monday will be the last game of the home and away season.
Now, to stay in the hunt for the premiership, teams must Qooty to Survive.
A recap of the path to a premiership, so far.
EPISODE BOM
It was shattering for the Baghdad Bombers when they lost their preliminary final against the eventual premiers. A 49-point loss to the Gumbies had them sent home and began an out of control spiral into darkness for the Bombers.
Their recruiting was strong during the off-season and it had promised to be a season of hope with Bovo returning after a vacation at the Furies, while MayTheNorthBeWithU looked for greener pastures in Baghdad. CursingFijian from the warriors and rookie tomjoad were also important signings to see them take the next step.
There was no next step, but instead a sharp decline, with four consecutive losses showing what their season was about to be. There was a glimmer of hope early doors with back-to-back wins against the Bears and Furies but they’ve won just a single game since, three games less then the next team.
Outside of some excellent recruitment, it’s hard to find positives from this season and the wooden spoon is going Baghdad. The Bombers are the worst club in the Sweet F.A and didn’t even need to be bad at submitting team sheets to do it. A long rebuild is ahead but they’ll be looking to close out their season with a win against the Hawks.
EPISODE ESH
Season 32. The Hawks name disappeared after “incoherent and flimsy reasoning” was provided for a rebrand to the Phoenix. The seasons to come were a struggle for the Phoenix, on and off the field.
Season 37. The Hawks are back and so are some East Side legends.
The Hawks put together one of the greatest ever off-seasons by a Sweet F.A team but also lost some serious talent at the same time. thewizardmelon and promising rookie, DemurePrincess shipped off to the Old Boys while names such as Jhye Clark 13, Wise Guy Sam, and Catsnlakers, also decided to depart. To replace them, names such as Strigoi, larrikin, boncer34, and Biggie joined the club alongside a huge Demon coup of Tarkyn_24. They definitely had the names, they just needed the results to match.
A win in round one against the Bombers had the Hawks flying high with @Tarkyn_24’s seven goals the highlight alongside @Strigoi’s 36 disposals. Their recruiting had worked well, or so they thought until they were served with a 60-point loss in the second round.
Since then it’s been a season of momentum swings, three wins and then three losses but the major story came when a late team submission gave them four penalty points and suspensions to their co-captains. It couldn't have happened at a worse time, they were still fighting for a place in finals. Without the penalty their spot in finals would be locked in, instead it’s up the final round results to decide their fate.
It’s a must win game against the Wooden Spoon Bombers and they’ll also need the Demons, Dragons, Furies, and Bears to lose.
Captains, please be aware that the team sheet for your team must be submitted by 11:59 AWST on Thursday.
