Lot of discussion last night as to why Boyd wasn't selected. Running defender with some go that can use it.

Other one was Moir. Form in 2's was very poor yet he was selected.

This is after Evans was selected last week after doing nothing in 2's. We simply aren't rewarding form

Position of Docherty Haynes & McGovern has to be questioned

Binns & Carroll need to get a game.

Probably due to a very bare cupboard...

They knew Moir wasn't quite ready which is why he was sub... unfortunately, had to come on way earlier than expected.

With Cottrell out and Evans needing to be dropped, bringing in White + Moir was probably the best thing we could do.

Doc and Gov keeping their spot is the real mystery here.... well not so much Doc, he's never going to be dropped... they need to invent an "injury" for him asap though. Gov I've got no idea what's going on... I would have thought clear as day he should've been dropped after that insipid Richmond performance but yet here we are... bulletproof.

We have a group of dreadful footballers who should not be played before Boyd. McGovern, Fogarty, Motlop, Docherty and possibly Haynes and Moir, thought they are different players.

This group have consistently been terrible at selecting the side.

IMO, no one should be sub who has a question regarding fitness. If a player goes off early, side is effectively 2 players down.

0-4

Out: Cowan (inj), Young (Omitted), Lord (Omitted), Moir (Omitted)

Two of my favourite players are doing my head in every week this year. Docherty and Acres. Another player in McGovern is every bit as bad.

Eagles drop Tim Kelly and Tom Cole for poor onfield standards.

THIS is what I mean by selection integrity, not picking every 18 year old not up to the level.

Who else could have come in? Boyd perhaps.

Heard the whisper that Doc may be sub, even though named in the starting side. We shall see.

Who would you have brought in for Doc Gov and Acres?

Lord stays in instead of Doc, Boyd for Gov.
Acres stays.
Yeah ok, I thought about it after I asked and Lord for Doc I get, Boyd for Gov I dont.
Look I get the selection integrity thing but I watch the 2s and I just dont see anything there that that come in.
Poor performers thus far IMO have been:
Doc
Gov
Acres
Haynes
Fogarty
Motlop
Williams
Young (apart from a little purple patch agains the Dogs?)
Charlie (underdone but still poor)
Thats a shitload of blokes to have to replace with a bare cupboard.

I wouldn't necessarily have dropped all 3 of them, but they all deserved to be dropped. Based on the lineups, I would have dropped Doc instead of Lord as they both go into the midfield. Or I would have dropped Acres, and had Cottrell, Walsh and Ollie sharing wing duties. On form, Young deserved a place in the backline ahead of Gov too, but I prefer the athletic option. As it stands, we can't have Weiters, SOS, Gov and Haynes in the same backline, so one has to be upfield or on the pine.

Boyd is a best 22 player and a great kick from defence who was solid when he came on as sub, and was ok in the 2s last weekend.
He may not have full fitness, but Gov has been terrible.
Boyd=Great kick out of defence is a myth IMO. I just dont see it, thought he was very ordinary in the twos. I know Gov has been terrible but a 182 bloke doesnt replace a 191 bloke. Shuffling around the backline to squeeze in an underdone Boyd may do more harm than good.

Fair calls, its not easy at the moment as there isn't much to bring in, you can only shuffle so many deckchairs.

We’re currently playing 4 tall defenders, we can easily afford to drop an underperforming one.

I don't have a concern with the height of the backline, as Gov is quick enough to play on any mid size forward and his kicking is way better than the likes of Ollie and Saad to bite off options through the middle

Haynes then essentially players 3rd tall, and is also quick enough to peel off an opponent

Weitering, Jsos v A Reid, Allen

Haynes v Waterman

Gov and Carroll are the same height, but both can play on more agile types

Yes, Doc could possibly have made way for Lord, both have been equally poor, but Doc is still quicker and more versatile

Between now and the end of the year, I'd have Newman, Cincotta, Elijah and Boyd in the 22

Lord didn't deserved to be dropped compared to the others, so isn't a deck chair in this instance. Jordan Boyd is another option.

I certainly haven’t been pro-Voss, but I’ve been anti-sacking Voss.

Hard to maintain that with these selections though.

How can you not have the balls to have a tough conversation with Docherty? What kind of leadership is going on here?

We have blokes actively pulling out of contests and there’s no consequences. Genuinely perplexing.

I love Lord, but it is fair to say he struggles to play out four quarters. He was almost BOG in the first half of an earlier game and we all were up in arms when he was subbed out. Fact was he had slowed dramatically after half time.

I want Lord in, but the hard work he does is super taxing. Again Voss has made him in to a blunt instrument, as opposed to developing a more rounded game, which he has the skills for. I think it gets back to the selection integrity thing, some players are treated like fodder while others get a pass for lesser effort.

I want a new coach before another handful of youngsters and/or role players are cooked by unbalanced expectations. IMO the deference to stars and expectation that others took up the slack with grunt work was the prime reason for the departure of Ratten and Teague, now it will see the end of Voss soon enough.

Modern football demands that the millionaires do the hard yards along with the rookies. We don’t embrace that concept. All very well to designate a Dustyesque offensive weapon with foot soldier cover, but that can’t accommodate a handful of player in one team.

I agree Coona about Lord not playing 4 quarters. He plays 2 quarters and fades.

IMO it’s not fitness. It’s learning to play 4 quarters and adjusting to AFL football.

Issue I have is it’s bloody hard to improve and learn to play 4 quarters when you are constantly dropped (with no VFL) and constantly playing as a sub. That is shocking development mentally and physically

Most kids need to time to learn and develop consistency. We simply make it even harder

There is where Voss has lost me.

I never expected a high level tactical coach with Voss (and he should have been supported with one) but I expected him to set high standards from our players. I can’t believe the things he allows to continually happen. Mistakes are one thing but lack of effort is unforgivable IMO and I am amazed Voss allows it week after week

It is a continuation of the mediocrity that has infested this club for nearly 30 years
