Coaching Staff Senior Coach: John Worsfold - Thank you John

No different to Mick Malthouse...both UBD were up before they were appointed by Carlton and Essendon...deflecting his accountability onto the players is a likely sign he's suffering with PAWS.

Woosha has already been at Essendon for two years and was a great appointment. The question is the future now.

Looks like the structure and people around Worsfold are going to have some decisions made around them... but Woosha has the support of Richardson.

Also a bit I didn't quote referencing the Dimma situation a year ago, so Dan Richardson definitely bringing his experience from there to here.

“The reality is Mark’s made the decision to move on, it’s a selfless decision. John supports that, I support that and now we move forward as a footy club.

“It also gives us some time and space with some real clarity to make some decisions around what is the best structure and what are the best people that we can have around Woosha to move forward.

Richardson threw his support behind Worsfold, who has come under intense public scrutiny in recent weeks.

“John is a premiership coach, so he’s a proven coach,” he said.

“He’s a person that is of the highest quality, the highest standards, the highest principles and values.

“There’s no doubt in the club’s mind – there’s no doubt in my mind – that he’s the coach to take us to where we want to get to.

“John’s got a terrific relationship with his players, as have the other coaches, and I see no question of any of the connection there.”

And he won exactly the same number of games in the 2017 home and away season as he did in 2015 and 2013.

So losing in the first week of the finals is as good as winning a flag o_O

No you said "Richmond only were able to win a premiership once Hardwick stopped acting like a dickhead".

No, what allowed them to win a premiership was being able to win a final.

The amount of confidence they would have got from winning a final in years would have been huge the monkey was off the back and they went all the way

Essendon are the same imo

It was. The coach himself said so. How much more do you want.

I guess I'm willing to be patient because I think I saw enough last year in terms of rebuilding the forwardline to realise that he knows what he's doing. Unfortunately some things didn't fall into place this year and the coaching reshuffle perhaps hasn't been advantageous. He clearly wants to teach the players how to defend better - we don't have the capacity through the midfield to do that well enough, and many would agree that the forwards are still learning how to be more accountable.

The other thing that interests me is the success Richmond has had by keeping Dimma, Pies are on the up having kept Bucks. Not falling for knee-jerk reactions builds trust. The same old cycle of coach sacking and rehiring does nothing but promote disorder. The players need to trust that with some tweaks and work they can win.

Yeah, to defend better you probably should put one of your two best backman on the best forward. My main hope is is that worsfold is just really out of form. Good Players just put in shockers sometimes, I think coaches are the same.

Also Hardwick is also really good mates with the best coach in the business (clarkson) and sought his advice/mentorship more than ever last year. Dimma credits some of the changes to advice from Clarko. Whilst to some might seem like a stretch but i think this also plays a part in richmonds new philosphy.

We can keep worsfold if his form turns around or we get him to be best mates with clarko or one of the scotts.

...and they didn't win even a final until 2017, once Hardwick had by his own admission, stopped acting like a dickhead. :)

It's interesting to note that Hartwick did predict that they would unequivocally be strong contenders in the 2017 finals August of 2016 while he was being said "dickhead" The dickhead line is/was a red herring imo... He knew what he was doing...

Worsfold said a successful year for us would be to make finals and go all the way this year and that he hoped the rest of the competition would see us as contenders. Now we just need him to stop being a dickhead and we'll be right.

I like the point that Tim Watson and Gary Lyon made the other day. It's confusing to think that despite being as hard, tough, no-nonsense and passionate as Woosha was as a player, he is so soft as a coach and doesn't seem to encourage his players to show any "mongrel". It's almost cringe-worthy that we're considered a "nice" team this year.

I agree with absolutely everything you said except for the ‘almost’ part o_O

This. It's one thing to not be able to win a contested ball, or to not be able to hit a target 20m away, or to be lazy and not chase or pressure. But it's another thing entirely to be seen as (because we are) soft and 'nice' and completely without any aggression.

Not helping out teammates or running in to remonstrate at all when someone's got three opposition players on top of them is just absolutely pathetic to watch and for me is probably the most cringeworthy thing of the lot.

Are we considered nice?

I think we’re just considered shit.
