I think most of this rings pretty true. The Saints game was a disaster in the first half because we turned the footy over at half back and in the middle. We never got our running game going and spent a lot of time chasing the other way. The second half we got back into the game because we turned the footy over a lot less. The adjustment last week was the team leaders stepped it up. Raz went from a nothing game to gaining 700 meters.
Yeah it’s stuff that a few of us have been saying but it’s nice to have it from the horse’s mouth so to speak. Few new little things as well.

As far as Francis being dropped (taking it at face value) actually there’s another long podcasted radio interview with Dylan Shiel from Friday morning I think. Another fairly candid interview. They talked about young players being dropped and what that means for us as a side and how the club handles it, if the leadership group gets around the player that’s been dropped or whatever. Shiel is getting a lot better at interviews too, he was stiff as a board when he got interviewed a bit during the trade period. Not sure if he was just stressed with his life and career hanging in the balance or if he’s been learning to handle the Melbourne fishbowl media since then. He is basically the public face of the club at this point haha, he does so many interviews now.

It's some sort of weird tic that a few of the boys have. Zaka does it too. Must be contagious
Paul Roos does it too although they might have almost beaten it out of him because he doesn't seem to do it as much anymore. Just to be clear, ssssssss is a sharp intake of breath before speaking. I'm not sure how to better attempt to spell it..

Yeah I knew what you meant haha. Sort of sucks the air in through his teeth. Weird as

I reckon this game (against Melbourne) makes me more certain that Whoosha is not a coach for the future. Fact is, he's ruined our last two seasons trying to implement a game plan that does not suit our list.

Essendon looks best when it puts professional level pressure on the ball and then just plays on attacking instincts.

We have a talented list that can look good despite the coach.
How now?

I still think we need to look at his actual planning ruining the start to two seasons in a row. We also look at him playing older plodders ahead of very talented youngsters in years we won't be winning a flag.

I am glad that he switched back to attacking focussed play much quicker this year than last. However, I am disappointed that our summer game plan development wasn't focussed on defensiveness to suit our attacking play. We shouldn't have put so much into a done that is cheap when we could be working on numbers at the ball, high pressure around the ball and then breaking from there when we win it.

I am concerned that Stewart and Laverde aren't automatically selected ahead of Brown and Baguley.

I am not calling for a mid year sacking. If we have developed the type of attacking defence I want to see and Begley, Laverde and Stewart are getting games, plus the odd game for Draper then I'd be happy for him to go on next year.

At this stage I still hold out hope that we find and employ the best of the next generation of coaches to strike next year before Hurley and Hooker fade, and Ridley, Begley and Redman are able to contribute.

You clearly did not watch the game last week. They set up what they wanted to do in defence almost perfectly. Continually forced the Lions to kick down the wing and when we won the ball at half back our running players where already set up to use the fat side of the ground. On top of this we got a key marking defender back with Hooker taking 13 marks. What we did against the Lions was exactly what they wanted to adjust. The slide in the zone across the middle of the ground along with a man on man back two lines suited us down to the ground.

The players ****ed the first game. There have been a few mentions from the players themselves saying they may have believed the hype and did not do the hard yards. The second game was more the turn overs and the really poor form of Raz and Walla on the night. The Saints have shown since that despite not being a great side they do run a pretty structured midfield zone and we kept turning the footy over trying to pick through it. The following week Raz and Walla get up the ground more and provide 100% extra run and we have a good win. This continued last week with Redman adding to that run off half back.

As far as Stewart and Laverde getting games, both have been injured  Every time Laverde has been fit enough for the top level he has forced his way into the side. Stewart played half a game against Frankston coming off groin soreness. You could hardly expect him to get a game last week. Brown was bloody good last week. His work rate was bloody huge.

Ridley and Redman are already contributing.

Due for contract extension this week. I’d sign him up for 10 years if we beat pies.

All is forgiven.

When we play like crabs it’s the players fault.

When we hit hot form against ordinary sides it’s all credit to the coach and nothing to do with the players.

No more Ratten/Caracalla talk again please.

Let’s stick with what we got and have blind faith.

Yep. Full support.

If we don't make finals he's gotta go. Done a great job during suspensions period which has reset the club on the road to future successes.
I still think he has mishandled our younger brigades development with his pick then flick policy. Throw in a little hold the old and you have recipe for heartache.
My last criticism is a slow or no reaction time to tactical changes during a game, needs to pick up his game or jump on the plane.
Winners are grinners losers can **** off.

Like his team... this is one of the biggest weeks of his coaching career at Essendon.

Buckley has his critics but has become an excellent match day coach over the last two seasons. Worsfold will need to earn his pay packet to get us over the line.

The Woosha thread was locked for some reason so here is as good a place as any to post thoughts.

I remain really concerned. The immediate pressure / media circle jerk stuff has worn off because we got a few wins on the board and easier targets such as Melbourne and North took some headlines.

Really, we beat two sides of extremely poor quality (North and Melbourne) and one good average side in Brisbane.

I'd really question whether we've improved at all since last season.

We can talk about injuries etc, but they're going to be a constant forever. We remain inconsistent and don't beat the very good sides.

There are no signs that this gameplan - this speed, run and gun, attack from the back half thing - stands up to the choking pressure the top teams implement.

We have a core - Daniher, Fantasia, Heppell, Hooker, Hurley, Merrett, Saad, Shiel, Smith and Stringer - that we want to have a genuine crack at the top 4 and a flag with.

Will these coaches get us there? I'm totally unconvinced.

And they're certainly not in "play the young blokes regardless' mode, as shown by the treatment of Parish, Langford and Francis.

If the club decides it wants to contend for a flag - now - then I think very tough, ruthless calls will have to be made at the end of this season. We're headed for, at best, a 7th or 8th place at the end of the year. That's not contending, it's making up the numbers. And it's where I fear we'll remain.
