WE have a HUGHE image problem here folks!!!!!!!!
How did the Bulldogs become the only team with the so-called "working-class" image? And (excuse me for starting a sentence with "and") what's wrong with that anyway? All the inner suburban areas (before they became trendy) were once working-class- Collingwood, Richmond, Fitzroy.......
Why are we considered inferior because we're from the west?
What has become of the sports psychologist from "The Year of the Dogs" who encouraged the players to "spit out" positive adjectives every time they had an opportunity? No more "scrappy" wins by the dogs he said. Do you think this has improved?
Every team has "rough 'n tough" players but somehow ours are portrayed as being much worse than those of other teams. Our rough players are "dirty", to be looked down on as low lives.
It's about time to put a stop to all this negativity. Who are the ppl responsible for spreading all this crap?????????
This club is never going to be anything until its image is cleaned up. Just as much as any other club the Bulldogs- the players and supporters need to stand up and demand respect. That doesn't just come from winning a premiership. It comes from holding our heads high and refusing to be treated like poor cousins who get the occasional pat on the head. The Western Bulldogs/Footscray Football Club has contributed as much as any other to the competition but this is not acknowledged in any way.
Whose job is it to promote the club in the media? What happened to the "scribes" who we were told a couple of seasons ago, via the now defunct website, were going to give us positive promotion at every opportunity?????? In yesterday's Herald Sun there was a large photo showing the young up and coming Cats players, with an appropriate accompanying article. Beside or under this (depending on which edition of the paper you got), was an item about the Dogs entitled "Dogs Chase Virgin Deal"- not positive at all IMHO. It only highlighted the fact that the Doggies are still without a major sponsor. Where was the pic of Guido, Jordaman, Birsse, Murphy, Hahn and Co????? Nothing there to encourage supporters to sign up, or sponsors to dig into their pockets!!!!!
What next folks????????
BTW I have written this before the Brisbane game so if you are reading it after the game and we have by chance won, I might be feeling a tad chirpier
