Broadford got 273 I think with Mark Moran (83) Bill Neilson (48) and a late half century from Adam Mumford leading the charge. In reply Royals were 0 for about 10 at stumps.

No Robbie Douglas, Cam Purdey or Travis Blackwell, and with Clinton Bruce due home soon hopefully the boys can keep in touch and then throw their hat in the ring for a finals berth after the Xmas break.

Should one of the SDCA's premier umpires be displaying such obvious affection for a particular club?

Have a long way to go as an umpire to reach the great heights of Jimmy and co. who have been the premier officials for a long time - maybe a changing of the guard could be a good thing :thumbsu:

I made the big comeback at Xmas last year when we were flying but we missed the finals after that now infamous outright to the Maroons . . . . . so maybe I was the problem so if I keep away from the joint as a player they might be ok!!!

Just call it as I see mate ;)

Sounds like Seymour are screwed. ;)

Word getting around is Seymour put up a pretty good show yesteday, Shepparton were without many of their stars. The to Gledhill boys and Hampshire pulled out on Saturday which left Shepp with a second string bowling attack.

Seymour batted first and were reeling at 4-20 odd. A handy 5th wicket stand saw the blood flow stemmed, but another collapse saw Mike Hard enter and stick around with the FBP who clubbed a handy 90. Mike hard finished with 40 odd and dundon finished with 10-20 to post a competitive 223.

Shepp started a little shakey. Young opener for Shepp got a few, very loose tho, 50+ score, but ground his way there. The seymour umpire gave a shocking LBW and shepp were 2 for 50 or so. Hazelman came in and was dropped on not many, absolute dolly of a catch to first slip, next over Hazelman was beaten all ends up, chopped down on a yorker and got a tiny inside edge which missed the stumps by a bee's knacker. From there he was unfazed. Did what he liked.

Thought the level of fielding between the two sides was sub-standard. Seymour were woeful. Obviously a reflection of the training and committment differences between the two leagues. Haze and Wrighty did what they pleased between the wickets as they passed the score 5 down in the 45th over.

Still a good show by seymour to get 200+. Word is from some seymour staff that a few handy players pulled out on the saturday and the league wasn't too happy. Mentioning suspensions maybe sanctioned on those who make themselves available, get picked on the thursday then pull out on the fri or saturday...could cause some fighting at the next league meeting...

anyway, bit of a run down, good win to the shepp boys who will only improve. Seymour has potential to win a game or two i reckon.

Good point and it has worked in the HDFL before. However, being notified at 11.55 on Saturday morning of a representative match, five minutes before taking the field is a bit rich. Since the sides were selected on Thursday night, maybe somebody could give prior warning that player shave been selected until leaving it five minutes before the start of Saturday's play.

"Word getting around Seymour"...that was a fairly comprehensive review from someone supposedly going on secondhand info. You sure you weren't there?
As for the suspensions, forget about it. Good idea, but I can tell you exactly what will happen if they threaten to suspend those who declare themselves available only to pull out on matchday - people won't make themselves available!

I was in the outer having a bit of a squiz throughout the day.

I was speaking to one player who said he was threatened with suspension if he didn't play. It seemed a bit unfair that he was given that treatment when the likes of Pearce, Hinns and J. Tarran were last minute pull outs and weren't given the same threats.

Its great to have representative cricket again and I always enjoyed it when I had the opportunity to play in such games.

Dunno about other comps but the SDCA for a few years have really battled at rep level to have their top line cricketers keen to play these extra matches or attend country week carnivals.

Unsure on how the SDCA executive can rejuvenate the concept but for me a close to full strength SDCA would more than match it with their rivals.

Quick whip around lads, off the top of my head a squad of 15 from what Ive seen so far in 2006/07 would consist of . . .

Batting - S. Peterson (Sey), A. Hinns (Ave), *** R. Akers (Yea), A. Howard (T'rook), J. Smith-Williams (E'hill)

Allrounders - J. Tarran (T'rook), S. Pearce (Ave), R. Douglas (B'ford), T. Blackwell (B'ford)

Bowling - A. Dundon (T'rook), S. Hanley (E'hill), A. Mumford (B'ford), A. Miller (Yea), S. Wilkins (Kilm), S. Allum (Sey)

*** Keeper also

Only saw the one game but if you were a regular as I believe may happen after Xmas you'd have the new ball in my eyes for sure :thumbsu:

Can't believe you have left joeyboy out of your side, his perfromances this season have been extraordinary, averaging 9 runs a hit, up 1 run from last season. He is also yet to have a run taken of his 80kmh bullets:p

good side Doona :thumbsu:
how many games has Blackwell played/will play?
only name that really comes to mind thats not there would be Enrico, partially because he bowls a bit of spin as well, but he's been quite so far this year

Mick Enrico produced the best leg spinning delivery Ive ever seen in this comp to dismiss young Smith-Williams a few weeks back but the best spinner Ive seen thus far has been young Azza Miller, his left armers add variety, just ahead of Sam Watts due to the fact I think Sam's day of rep cricket are gone.

Think Travs right next round, and will be up around 7-8 games by seasons end he hopes

Don't forget Mark Nicholls from yea, man can play. Would also rate Xavier Youngman above Jac Smith-Williams at this stage, in those games, not sure if young Jac is up to making a big score under pressure. Zubby probably could. Jac will become a very good bat.

Doona what would be your best 11 in the district and batting order? Bare in mind too you can have 12, designated bat and bowler. So maybe pick the best 12.

Jason Tarran (Tall)
Ryan Akers (Yea)
Stuie Peterson (Sey)
Aaron Hinss (Ave)
Adam Howard (Tall)
Travis Blackwell (B'ford)
Shaun Pearce (Ave)
Robbie Douglas (B'ford)
Stuart Hanley (Hill)
Adam Mumford (B'ford)
Andrew Dundon (Tall) or Shannon Allum (Sey)
Aaron Miller (Yea)

Ranga Akers would keep, Aaron Miller would be my designated bowler, Adam Howard designated batter (battles fielding after lengthy stints in the middle).

Everyone else is quite accomplished with the ball and on their day have all been damaging in SDCA ranks.

Note: Reigning SDCA champ Mark Nicholls cant be considered due to him not bowling this season, sorry Nicho :thumbsu:

yeah looks pretty spot on doona but i find it a bit strange no one has mentioned b.tarran, having another cracker year.

would always rate a mention in any best of but he hasnt bowled in 06/07, is aging gracefully in the field and mightnt be keen on rep cricket anymore

Fair point, that line up would have been pretty handy on the weekend, lots of bowling options there. Would have Allum in infront of mumford though. Mumfy is getting on now. And Allum is a pretty accurate quick. There are enough mediums in Hinns, Tarran, Peterson, and Douglas.

Will be interesting to see who makes themselves available for the next match. Mustn't be too far down the track. Anyone have a date? Team they're playing and where?

Agree yeah and Shannon runs in and has a crack all day, but cant hold a stick. purely Based my team on guys that can bat down to number 11. Dundon has an alright technique for a tailender and is more effective with the willow than Shannon.

Have to disagree with you there. Agree Mumfy has Allum covered with the bat, not Dundon. Allum as a lower order batsman can stick around, he can also have a go. His technique isn't all that flash, but it seems to be affective. In either situation, quick runs or hanging around.

Either way, they're in to get wickets, and shouldn't be in the team on the odd chance they may be required to make runs with the bat. You want a consistant bowler who gets wickets.

Azza Miller, great bloke, absolute pie chucker but. What about X Youngman wouldnt get a gig as maybe number 3 or 4, saw he had a cracker 2005-2006 bendigo country week, couple of 80's, kid can bat, has he been playing???

aaron miller may b a pie chucker but he gets wickets! lil fella gets me out everytime i play him no matter what, frustrates the **** outta me! X youngman can play, dunno whats goin on with him this year! seems to have lost interest, ive played bendigo country week before, great times!
