Shades of Rioli in recruits, says experts

As for the comparisons with Grand Final gamebreaker Rioli, Ratten is playing them down - for next year at least.

"You can't compare Rioli to Yarran," Ratten said.
Nicely handled Ratts.

Man alive.

Yarran is the spitting image of Eddie Betts in that picture. :)
It is a pretty big move. I am still only 17 and turn 18 next month, so it might take a bit more time, but it shouldn't be too hard," Yarran said.

"I know a few of the Carlton blokes from Perth - Dave Ellard, Steven Browne and Dennis Armfield."
"If they want to zone off Chris Yarran and Eddie Betts, they might pay the ultimate price," Ratten said.

Great to finally hear how the bloke responded to being drafted by us. Looks great in the navy blue Jumper. Good to hear his Mum is coming over to ease the transition.

Betts, Fevola and Yarran. There's gonna be some exciting goals kicked in the blues forward line next year. :thumbsu:

Delighted with getting Yarran. Good luck to those oppositions that put 3-4 players on Fev. Yarran is the sort of player that can post a big bag very quickly. Looks to be a lot better overhead than Rioli. Pure talent. :)

I bloody hope so!

Personally, I don't see much point in having 2 flashy aboriginal smalls in the same forward line.

Very worried about the Yarran selection. Hope I'm wrong

Who said Yarran is just a forward?

He's a midfielder who can go forward.

The fact Yarran is indigenous is irrelevant.

Essendon have Davey and Jetta.

Hawthorn played Stokes and Rioli this year.

Shawn Burgoyne to me in those clips just oozes class just as SB does

Probably the most accurate comparison I would have thought. Yarran just glides around the ground like SB, and his goal sense is unreal. Just haven't seen Yarran in the midfield like SB.

After having a closer look at Yarran over the past 48 hours, you can certainly see why some recruiters are saying that he could quite easily be the most talented player in the draft.

Jesus everyone is so pc these days, to the point of ridiculousness

That wasn't anywhere near dodgy, just an efficient way to describe the kind of player he is/skills he has. Sheesh.

Glad he can play midfield as well, from all I've heard he still seems like a risk. If we are going to take a risk, I just thought we might have taken it on a tall defender or 2nd marking option - you know, something we actually need

very true but 2 things: can he go midfield? there is talk that he doesnt have the endurance to do so and also stokes isnt much of a player for hawthorn. maybe his just over shadowd by franklin and cyril but hasnt showed much just yet.

fair enough, but what in any way does that have to do with the quality of yarran??
betts and yarran are different types and although they are both exciting and creative, yarran can play taller, like a medhurst marking hf, there are a lot of positives in this kid!

No one's touchy.

But just because Yarran is flashy and has plenty of tricks and X factor like Akermanis, people think he's a risk because he's a midfielder/forward and not a KPP.

Your flawed argument about going for a KPP might be the reason why clubs picked Angwin, Livingston, Koschitzke and McDougal over Didak, Motlop, Burgoyne and Kerr.

The latter are better footballers and freak talents...

Hughes said you can't have too much talent on your list. ;)
yeh im not so sure either:(

Are you sure? Even by his own admission he is a small forward that has small bursts in the MF.

Not just coz of that, the boy has a bit of baggage I hear and questions have already been asked about his work ethic.

You've just picked out some examples that suit you there so I don't know how 'flawed' my argument is.

But fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion. As already stated, I just thought seeing as we already have a similarly equiped bloke up forward it may have been better to go for a bigger body, which we need desperately IMO.

its hard to explain to a person who has no idea..... so youll have to watch the games next year...

The Essendon guy before you has even less of an idea..

Hes thinking of Jetta...

Yarran knows how to play midfield, but just needs to build up his endurance and fitness.

Didak can play on the ball after starting his career as a forward.

It's all about how many players you have to rotate through the middle like the Hawks did in the Grand Final.

Ant555 posted that Yarran played HBF in the champs, so he isn't just a medium forward.

You can see Yarran playing up the ground in that clip I posted.

If Yarren plays forward that means Betts will be playing in the midfield or the backline.

Remenber Yarren kick 7 goals 1 match:eek: i think he is more than just a small forward.
