Shane Yarran in trouble

The offences that were known when Yarran was recruited cannot constitute grounds for cutting him. We knew about them and accepted them. Getting hammered and not obeying a move on notice is stupidity but the Lovett/St Kilda dispute should give you an idea that you need good grounds to dismiss a player unless you want to have to have to pay a settlement.

What is the benchmark is for cutting a player. If an allegation isn't enough what is?

A DUI? It's a serious offence - you could kill or maim someone driving while your judgment is impaired. Insider trading? It undermines the capitalist system. Petty theft? Using you sprinklers on the wrong day? I know that's frivolous but you get the point.

The problem is that it's obvious everyone has a different view on what constitutes unacceptable behaviour. That's why the club really HAS to wait until the criminal charges have run their course. If Yarran is found guilty of the more serious assault the club will have every right to terminate him even if he doesn't got to gaol. The circumstances around the other charge will determine the sentence if he's found guilty. He may be treated leniently.

Don't underestimate the power of the AFLPA - they'll be determined to make sure Yarran gets treated fairly by FFC.

He is currently on personal leave because in today's modern politically correct world, that's about as much as Freo can do without copping backlash.

The question I have to all of you who say he is innocent until proven guilty ... then why isn't he currently training with the team?

Does 'proving guilt' have any place in modern society??

The club's lying to its supporters when it says "Fremantle has agreed to a request from forward Shane Yarran to take personal leave from the club so he can focus on personal and off-field matters."
Rosich declared this to be the case:
“We have accepted Shane’s request for personal leave, which will allow him to concentrate on his personal life and also focus on some off-field matters,” Rosich said.

“We have been assisting Shane in dealing with these matters and will continue to do so.

“Shane’s return from personal leave will be assessed in consultation with him."

Lyon reiterated this scenario!
However it is actually a lie to cover up the fact that he's guilty.
The club know this to be the case and cannot react the way they'd prefer because they must defer to the evil pestilence of political correctness.
The presumption of innocence is nothing other than political correctness ramped to an insane level.

It's only those of us who celebrate mediocrity, believe Stephen Hill may be just a little tough and that the club has a rainbow coloured Pixie Dust Halo who think that "wait and see" is the best stance.
You're not a capital R realist if you attach to this fantasy;and you should be!

Not quite sure why every one is so upset hes 28 only played 6 games and only been on the list a year, guilt is beyond the point, just like you wouldn't trust a pedophile alone with children, you wouldn't trust yarren full of piss where violence is concerned. Fact is there is more chance of him going to jail then playing for us again. It was a gamble it didn't pay off ,im glad the club gave him a chance im very disappointed he spat in everyone's faces. Good riddence shane if found guilty i recon a 3 stretch if not guilty i think 2017 is the last year you ever spend on an afl list.

I think there's three underlying topics going on here;

(1) innocent until proven guilty: some of us are saying to wait until the courts have had their say. Others are saying stuff the process, the bloke is guilty, get rid of him, good riddance. Some of us extrapolate this ideal to the wider society we live in, and are concerned what the alternative offers

(2) Shane is not a big loss: late pick, old, only 6 games = meh. Versus a dude that kicked 10 goals from 6 games off limited prep due to severe knee injury in first year of AFL system without much support in the forward line nor good delivery into it. Assume he continues at the rate of 1.7 goals per game = 37 goals a season. Assume with a preseason and better support/delivery, could easily be a 40-50 goal a year player. We have about 1 other of those currently on our list (Walters) with hopes Cam Mac, Ballas, Apeness, Tabs can reach that level or thereabouts. His value to the team would be unreal.

(3) Club culture: unless you're entrenched deeply within the club, you wouldn't know what the culture was. Media don't know but love to speculate in the abscence of facts. This can bring negative attention to the club - but that's different than culture in my opinion. That's a branding issue that may impact sponsors possibly and annoy RTB at media conferences. Part of the culture could be that the club has a rich history of recruiting indigenous players, and giving rookie listed players a fair crack - supporting players that other clubs may pass on, giving everyone equal opportunity and same expectations to perform once recruited. "Support the player, challenge the behaviour" gets used a lot by RTB. If there is a loose cannon roaming around the club, they'll get weeded out (e.g. Sylvia) and the club and players will move on without impacting negatively on the culture, but possibly enhancing it. Kids learn by role model bahviours, but also by watching people make mistakes.

By all means he should have a fair trial and be judged accordingly by the law, now in regards to football i consider it differently. He had one job to do off the field and thats keep his nose clean he has failed miserably whether that is because of who he hangs around or family or alcohol, it doesn't matter as he is no longer allowed the privilege of an excuse for his actions , he was given several chances and has blown it.
Now to the glassing charge, police dont just go around charging people willy nilly its actually a pain in the ass trying to get them to lay charges. Something that sticks out to me is the first thing they would check is was he actually there? If they couldn't prove that then they wouldn't go close to charging him, it would just fall over. So if he was there " which im assuming", then he has put himself in this situation and is an accessory after not reporting it at the least. A man got stabbed with a glass bottle its not a simple drunken punch in the head, this is serious business. Now the question is, after his time in jail and now his current troubles is this the sort of person Ffc want to be associated with ? and im sure we can all agree on this the answer is no. Also would FFC of drafted him if he had gone to court on this charge earlier and been found innocent and i think they wouldn't. So im connecting the dots here and putting 1 and 1 together to make 3 and i can not for the life of me see him getting a contract extension whether found innocent or guilty.

I suspect you're probably right about the contract... but "since this matter is in front of the courts - no further comment" ;)

didn't that happen before he was drafted? Not sure why we sack him for that now?
If he goes to the big house he can't fulfill his contractual obligations and the contract will be void. If he is found innocent, the chances are he wont be offered a contract renewal. Its a bit different to being sacked

Hypothetically ,what if he is found not guilty ,resumes with the club and kicks 40 odd goal . De listed or contract renewal. Interesting question.

Yep. That's the only way he gets to save his career, and even then it might not be enough. Otherwise Ressie Runners' post #835 is right on the money.

If he is found not guilty he still has to play his way back in the side so maybe 5 goals a game at peal several weeks in a row? then he would get noticed. Or would need several injuries. A lot has to fall his way in that senario but i recon he must be last in the pecking order now.

Shit yet you still keep on comment , not everybody like you . I need some entertainment also . instead of me argue with other postie is good to seat back and enjoy BF movie sometime.

So you come on this thread (pardon the pun) for cheap entertainment at the expense of Yarren?

Why not everyone just give it a rest and make comment after the court appearance. All I did was make that comment because after a few weeks of not going on this thread it's even further degenerated.

I don't find it degenerated after reading M_rash comment . There is different type of postie sharing their opinion . I just mention that personally sometime be a silence reader is not a bad experience at all .
