MrAARON, an essendon poster, stated in one of my threads in bay 13 that he can guarantee that 60% of essendon fans want Sheedy gone. I think the guy is obviously stupid, Sheeds being one of the most successful coaches of all time. My question is 1-how long do you want Sheeds to keep going? and 2- do you want Hird to replace him? After all this time we wouldnt want Kev at Richmond, but i'd love to give a Hird a chance to do what the great Tiger has done for you.

I find it very unlikely that Hird would be our next coach. Infact I'd almost rule it out completely.

He's stated he'll have a year away from footy once he retires. You'd imagine that wouldn't give him enough time in the system in a coaching role before Sheedy leaves.

Ok, but question #1 was how long do you want Sheeds to keep coaching?

Hmm, MrAaron, is that the same guy as AaronM who started a sack sheedy thread, and wanted people to sign up on the stupid 'sacksheedy' website or online petition that he or some other idiot made??
If so he doesn't represent me and he had a 'sack AaronM' thread made him about it on this board, which more people agreed to.

Sheedy is contracted until the end of 2007. Wait until half way through next year and then we can revisit the merits of giving Sheedy another contract or not....

At least lets see him fulfil his contract with young players that now have games under their belt, a full list to choose from and perhaps Hird playing on one more year.....and some hot prospect from this year's National draft.
We could very well be looking back on this year and thinking how the team has come a long way....dont think very many of them could endure another season in the bottom 3. Motivation in itself.

I know this is fence sitting, but I'll wait until next year to make that decision.
He's contracted next year and I want him to see that out. No question there.

But as for beyond that, a lot will depend on what improvements we make in the next 12 months.

Let him run out his contract, but unless something remarkable happens i can't see him being re-signed or wanting to go on much longer anyway.

Teach O'Donnel on how to take over during next year.

Hirdy was saying the other day sheeds wants to keep coaching for awhile yet and is still enjoying it. Interesting you think he wont be re-signed,do you think he will retire or retired gracefully by the club. I have a feeling there might be some sort of agreement between the club, sheeds and hird.

I don't have any inside goss or anything, its just a feeling i have that Sheeds has been great for the club, but we're probably 3 years absolute minimum away from being a proper contender and probably something closer to 5 years and i can't see Sheedy hanging around that long.

well hello my best friedn how are you on this fine Saturday morning. Thankyou for making upa thread just for me about me. *Kiss* :D

Of course I want Sheedy out and when it happens I will be having a few beers in celebration. Just hope for everyone's sake we are not finishing 15th or worse next season under Sheedy.

Then I kind of guess when he does get the sack or leaves the club you will all be saying thank god for that and you new it would happen eventually even though righ tnow you aint.

It's so obvious :D :thumbsu:

I have been privileged to personally see my club win 4 premierships under the great man.
Thats one premiership every 6 years of coaching!
Any other club would kill for Essendons success over the last 20 years.

Sheeds is the master of all tricks we couldnt have a better person at our helm when were rebuilding as for Hirdy hell go into the media he was born to be a champion and then go into the media hell earn more and it allows him to spend more time with his family, i think once he retires is will be fairenuf for him to say family over footy

Sheedy has done a fantastic job at Essendon,
and it would be sad to see him go.
I say let's see what happens next year..
atleast let him continue with his contract.. :thumbsu:

There's no doubt the great man will be coaching us in 2007. He has a contract and it must be honoured. To treat Sheeds any other way would be a disgrace.
However, I'd like to see a young side with a young coach - someone with a real fire in the belly to succeed (like Sheedy in 1981) and I have a feeling that the club has a replacement in mind, or at the very least, a short-list of names. Time will tell.

I dont think clubs like Brisbane, North, West Coast, Adelaide, Carlton or Hawthorn would "Kill" for our success in the last 20 years.

But the rest would.

North still might, they weren't as good as us in the 80's. If Sheedy had went there and won 4 flags and had a solid team for 25 years there membership may be greater, Sheedy may have put them on the map and they may not be looking to sell games etc.

Ok, Maybe not Kill.
The three interstate teams should be happy with their 2/3 flags.
Hawthorn also has 4 in that time but if you are under 20 years old you wouldn't have remembered one.
Carlton would be happy with their 4 but it's been 10 years since their last.
North have won 2. (I think)

All I'm saying is that we should be very grateful to Sheeds for the last 25 years and pay him the respect to see out his contract.

You are about half right Stargazer. Sheedy has had his contract extended before it expired in the past, so in the same way, if both parties agree, he can walk at the end of 2006. He wants to coach after EFC, so should the inevitable be prolonged ? We've been sliding to the wooden spoon since 2001, and the natives are restless. I wouldn't feel that comfortable with him as coach week in week out next year, knowing that he is negotiating behind the scenes. He may still be a great coach to some, and so won't have trouble picking up a new position.

Nice job of twisting Sheedy's words. He said he wants to continue coaching the EFC after 2007, if thwy decided to go in another direction then he will look elsewhere for a coaching position

Sheedy is a good twister himself- he is not the answer for the next 3 or 4 years at EFC.
