Seems to be out of his depth in Shield cricket. I've always thought of Beaton as a lucky slogger so it's not that surprising that he hasn't set the park alight.

Bloody hell Ronchi, so near and yet...

Forgot about Beaton

As Doodles has said though he's not up to it at the moment and needs to work on his game

Maybe the case but gotta be better punting on a youth than a 29 yo journey man who has worse average than him.

Its unfortunate but the dropped catch cost us more than just birts runs as WA built a nice middle stage partnership after that. I think emotionally it cost us about 100 runs as WA would have been quite fragile after the hatrick :(

Can we rely on Quiney and rogers today? especially after the 400 run chase down last year on the 4th day of the G?

Siddle is a beast. WA must be dissappointed he didn't get a national call up.

ALL HAIL MCDERMOTT!!! our bowling (as a nation) has gone from 'who can bloody bowl in this country' and 'mj must play because there is no one else' to 'how many can we take'.

WA dropped catches as well, didn't they? The standard of catching in the Shield is pretty damn ropey.

Apparently Chris Lynn dropped three to stuff the Bulls up nicely!

I think this has a lot to do with slipping discipline.

I remember how rubbish we were in the 80s. THen we copped a hammering from the windians.

Border had the team doing fielding practice of the old metal plate for hours and hours on end.

Jones tried to get his english team to do the same and htey sacked him because they couldn't cope with the discipline, same with ranatunga, he didn't like Whatmore bringing discipline to the team.

I know there are high tech stuff going on, but some old fashioned border/jones discipline couldn't hurt?

Mcdermott would seem to have taken our bowling back to basics, why not our fielding.

The thing about the carters drop was it was the keeper :( :(

Wow, the openers are making mincemeat out of us. I'm pretty sure also that you don't get any points if you lose overall even if you "win" the first innings, so not looking good for WA here.

I actually thought that you got the 2 points or whatever a first innings results is worth no matter what the overall result was. Must have changed

Nah, the two points are ours to keep, and with SA batting Tassie out of their match, it's looking good for us a the moment, regardless of the outcome here.

That said, the Vics are going to want to set an "attainable" target as they need full points, and our target chasing form recently hasn't been great.

Rogers is another bloke who was born too early. Career average of around 50. Great work - unlucky not to play more than 1 test match.

Oh well, unlike Brad Hodge he doesn't seem to complain about it.

Please note i actually like Brad Hodge, i just don't like people who complain.

finch scoring quickly, which is required.

I think perhaps he should be batting further down the order.

I hope cam white does the right thing and let handscomb come in next.

Well, I agree. I can't always watch streams but sometimes I'll skim read through commentary just to get an idea of how the matches have gone and the number of catches dropped in Aus Shield cricket is disheartening. It's like reading through Pakistan matches.

Rimmington on a hat trick here great bowling here could be a game changer played and missed the hatrick attempt unlucky there!
