NO TROLLS Should AFL players bend the knee before each match in 2021?

Great so grab a beer or go to the toilet a couple of minutes before the bounce if a couple of dozen guys kneeling for a few seconds is such an affront to your worldview.
Good idea. Or watch something more meaningful? Perhaps what's left of a crowd at the game will hold on high placards with fists raised and the slogan “Now We Transform.” written on them? Transform America? Abolish the police and prisons? Just play the game, but I gather that is only secondary in 2021

Haha yeah ok mate. George Floyd is the only African American to have been gunned down by a cop, wrongfully imprisoned, victimised based on the colour of their skin etc etc 🤣

Out of interest where did you get the stat "80% of black children born to single mothers"? That seems extremely high.

It's more like 60-70%. This one (https://www.actrochester.org/children-youth/single-parent-families-by-race-ethnicity) has black 66%, white 33%, Hispanic 42%, Asian 20%.

Out of interest, where would the USA rank in terms of ' least racist, most inclusive societies on the planet'.

There are 190 UN member states for example. Are the US top 10, top 50? Bottom 4?

If you think that's what's going on you are completely disregarding decades/centuries of history.

What happened 300 years ago has no bearing on George Floyd going into a convenience store while high on meth and fentanyl and trying to steal with counterfeit money.

Asians outperform white skinned people on every metric in the US (income, education). The same white racist white people who supposedly oppress black people allow Asians to beat them? Newly arrived Hispanic immigrants who come with nothing outperform black people. Africans outperform African-Americans by a considerable margin.

There is no agenda to oppress non-white races.

We're splitting hair no matter the number. 66% is disturbing.

It doesn't matter where the US ranks.

The US has all races, cultures, religions that live virtually in harmony side by side.

If you think the US is a racist society, then you should be taking Japan or China to task first. Start with the low hanging fruit. India has highly discriminatory caste system that oppresses hundreds of millions for being born to the wrong people.

It's not an agenda, it's an ingrained part of the system and culture in certain parts. Your irrelevant tangents notwithstanding.

It's a gesture to show solidarity with victims of racism and to show support for the inclusiveness of people regardless of their ethnicity. In Australia it's also to raise awareness for issues such as incarceration rates of indigenous Australians.

I never would have thought that something so innocuous would trigger so many right wing snowflakes into seeing the downfall of western civilization around every corner. It's like reds under the beds x1000000.

Africans outperform African Americans. Until recent years, Asians that migrated to the US were poor, spoke next to no English yet their children outperform whites.

I'm supposed to believe there is this secret agenda among white people to keep other races down -- apart from Asians they let Asians beat them in every metric.

There's certainly a lot of people telling everyone how to think these days.
Wouldn't it be terrible if people weren't completely bombarded by messages every second of the day via internet, tv, social media, political activists and of course watching sports now.

It truly is a dream world for advertisers and political activitists. Kind sucks for everyone else though.

Yes, it is. There's a chicken and egg argument there. Are African-Americans genetically predisposed to single parenthood? Is it more acceptable in African-American culture? Or is it a function of socioeconomics. If you go to a stereotypical 'shit' suburb in any cap city (Mt Druitt, Elizabeth, Frankston etc) the rate of single parenthood will be high compared to the Australian average, but the racial make-up will vary.

Anyway, I don't think African-American socioeconomics has much to do with the AFL.

It matters if you think the US is one of the least racist, most inclusive societies on the planet. USA! USA!

There's a big distinction between thinking a society is racist and thinking it is right up there for least racist and most inclusive on the planet.

China? Racist and intolerant. Govt is abusing human rights of its citizens right now. Japan? Racist, tolerant. If they want to have an essentially monocultural society with minimal immigration that is their prerogative. India? Yep racist also and I do not like the accepted hierarchical caste system. Etc.

The US is a shitshow. Wealthiest country in the world and they have massive wealth inequality. There are tens of millions of people who enjoy great lives there, black, white or other. But there are tens of millions who do not. I mean in the last year they've had police brutality, riots, US capitol building being stormed... a harmonious place it is not.

I never said that, that's just a fantasy you created to rail against.

If you're going to kneel, at least kneel to the King!

Phil 2

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

I prefer my sport without politics, like the 1968, ‘72, ‘80 and ‘84 Olympics. Or all those cricket tours of South Africa in the ‘80s. And I like my sports stars quiet and with no interest in politics, like Muhammad Ali or Billie Jean King or Lebron James.

And I like my music stars to shut up and sing and for my comfortable world view to ever be challenged. Is that too much to ask?

I'm curious what the end game of the kneeling and 'say her name' on the back of jerseys etc. actually is. Just seems like an endless cycle of feet stamping followed by people saying 'we're listening, we want the same thing' followed by nothing happening.

The average sports fan watches NBA players warm up in #BLM t-shirts and bend knees and lock arms and all that and just sort of goes along with it. It had some impact at the start, but even the players gave up on the alternate names on jerseys thing (probably because they know it impacts jersey sales) after a while.

But when the Milwaukee Bucks said 'nope, we're not playing tonight' following the shooting of Jacob Blake people certainly took notice. Collective action in sports is powerful. And private owners in US sports are powerful people. IMO the LeBrons of the world should "shut up and dribble", or, go harder. If you're not getting what you want from the people who sign the cheques then withdraw your labour. Good luck having an NBA or NFL without your players.

From an AFL/Australian POV it does look a bit like we are just going along with it because we don't want to be seen as not going along with it.

2000 Olympics or GTFO. Zero political statements, particularly not by athletes or musicians.

I agree about the black lives matter riots being destructive, many businesses destoyed, lives ruined, but like I've said the stats simply don't back up the claim that police try to kill black people (they kill a higher proportion of white people arrested than black people).

As for the rest I think you need to spend less time on the internet. Facebook and Twitter feeds are designed to be echo chambers, to have have continually scared and upset at the world. The US is a very harmonious and tolerant place. One of the most harmonious and tolerant in the history of the Earth.

It's very strange that you think it's perfectly fine that Japan has and wants a monocultural society (anti-multicultural basically meaning discriminating against non-Japanese), but then completely outraged that the most multicultural and inclusive society on Earth the US doesn't meet your impossibly high standards.

I don't understand why you brush off what goes on in countries like Japan, China, India (that's got to be close to 3 billion people), but so infuriated about some other country on the other side of the planet.

In fairness, that's the modern Australian mindset in a
