Should Supporters Have A Voice To The AFL For Issues That Concern Them?

Should we as supporters be represented by some sort of advisory board that can offer feedback to the AFL regarding issues about the direction of the game?

Particularly for matters directly relating to the welfare and role of footy supporters within the game as it moves forward?

You could channel all feedback into one spot for all supporters - who knows if they would bother to listen anyway

You don't need everyone agreeing, diversity of ideas is good. Even the AFL in its decision making would not have everyone aligned on every decision.

They do a terrible job of publicising themselves. I have never heard of them. The AFL also do a poor job giving them the visibility they need to be seen to be representing our views.

i am not sure the Victorians that run the afl are even aware it exists.

Associations like this in any area rarely have high visibility and even then only then when large amounts of people find them useful.

Same way we don't really hear much from Players Associations (IMO anyway) unless it's CBA time

Don’t want it but when the opinions of fans are based purely on their own club and not the national game it would be dangerous.

We already have a media that can’t get out of the 80’s and 90’s VFL, last thing we need is the another group doing the same.

of course. I'm sure the AFL will select only the most appropriate people to represent us. If we were to vote, they could just replicate the Adelaide footy club's system for providing candidates for the member elect board positions.

A supporter's body with two elected representatives from each club would be an interesting idea. They could meet each month during the season, and every second month across the off-season and be a consultative body for changes and to bring ideas to the attention of the AFL.

Would probably be taken more seriously than local council elections by most in the community too!

In practice, 90% of their meeting time would just be non-victorian supporters bleating about the grand final being held at the MCG, while in the background Collingwood and Carlton supporters punch on (as do Richmond and Geelong) and everyone forgets that North Melbourne are even there.

They are very small, but they send out a regular email and do appear to have some access to AFL executives (whether there is an impact is another thing)
