Should the club tap Tex and Rory on the shoulder now? possible farewell game

Sloane I don't think will play again, not for a farewell game or anything else. He'll retire based on the eye issues.

Walker will obviously play out the season and we'll see from there.

So if that is the case, what is Sloane waiting for to announce his retirement?

Reckon he still thinks he can play. And just wait and see if that occurs and if it does, just wait and see where he plays.

There's been a lot of media chat along the lines of 'Sloane is working closely with specialists to determine a path forward' etc., given the risks to his sight if he plays on. I think if Adelaide's season is basically over when he is ready to play he probably won't play. Just speculating obviously but we'll know in the next few weeks.

Rory, yes, most definitely he should retire now.
Smith, send him to the SANFl as we need his position to blood a young player.
Tex, stays in the 18 unless injury becomes too debilitating. Need his on field leadership and presence.

Agreed.

Sloane needs to retire for the sake of his health. Not worth risking injuring his eye.

Tex just needs to get over his back issues. Rest him if need be if still a problem & get him right as still valuable to the side when fit.

Smith needs managing with games in the sanfl to get his confidence back.

Laird needs to move into defence as no room in the midfield with Crouch.

Only missed 4 weeks the other time he did it, so it's interesting that he's still not clear to play. Presumably the op was the same procedure. My gut feel is that he's still deluding himself that he can play again but the club aren't keen to see him back on the field.

Tex should focus 100% on rehab, miss as many games as required to put the back injury behind him, do a mini preseason and return when fully fit. See how he goes back half of year, could average 5 a game and earn an extension. Or get himself a season contract at a flag competing club and retire with a premiership medal.

I'd like to see Rory finish his career crawling around suburban grounds in front of hundreds of people. No one at our club has deserved it more.

If we lose the Carlton game and go 0-5 the following should happen in stages.

We need to bring in the fresh faces and playing anyone who is aged out of our next premiership team needs to go immediately.

1. Smith is given a farewell game against Essendon.
2. Walker / Sloane are given a farewell game and tribute at the showdown.
3. Laird is offered a farewell game as he wont be selected at AFL level anymore. His final game against Brisbane.

All of these players need to go ASAP.

Nicks can have a farewell game against Carlton.

Rory needs too in his best interests, Tex just needs to sort his back out. We have milera on the lti list so if we retire Sloane before the msd we could pick up a couple of extra kids to work with?

I don't agree that Tex is finished, we've seen how Tex flourished under a decent forward coach. I think he's currently the victim of poor coaching and not father time.

Let him get his back right and then get him to 300 games.

This board is very quick to write off Tex. Much like when we were at the bottom of the ladder last time. When the delivery isn't a total basket case he'll look good again.

Kicked 1.2 against Melbourne and gave a freebie to Keays, could have very well been a 4 goal performance with 15 touches and 10 marks.

He's nearing the end but hang five on trying to retire him.

And if Rachele hadn’t got in his way, he would have got that goal as well - straight in front from 30 metres.
