Should the rules be changed to make Marlion Pickett eligible for the Rising Star this year?

If it is for young players, then the games played element should be removed IMO.
I disagree, I think again it keeps it to the fresh bright stars rather than a 21 year old who's played 60 games before breaking out.

I think the current criteria is fine, I think most of the winners back this up.

It is unfair that Pickett should be denied the chance at an award he'd probably win by the rules as they stand.

It should be a thing where if you've played under 25 games at the start of the year, you're eligible for the award.

I was at the Grand Final and witnessed Picket''s game, including that blind turn, and feel it is an injustice that he's denied the opportunity to win the award simply because of his age.

Discuss.

Nice cast.

Ah so JLG has graduated from trying to get a rise out of tigs supporters with his doping and rance rumors to getting a rise out of everyone else by praising the tigers.

Good stuff JLC. Love your work.

Yep, Lewis Taylor over Bontempelli, Rhys Palmer winning it, the award is clearly working brilliantly.

As it is now its the number 1 draft pick award.

To be honest I much preferred the decades when I never thought about Richmond at all.

There isn't a single award that everyone agrees with every single year (besides the Coleman probably).

You would think the number 1 pick would have a high correlation to RS winners given they are drafted as the best rated junior and often play 15+ games.

Honestly, if campaigning for awards, Id rather champion for an award that acknowledges defenders and have a Danny Frawley medal awarded to the best defender of the year.

100%

Nathan Vardy would have been eligible in his 6th season in the competition.

Daniel Menzel would have been eligible in his 7th season.

Josh Cowan would have been eligible in his 8th season if he got one. He lasted for 7.

All from the 2009 draft.:'(

I'm sure there's another broken hack (Menzel excluded) that Geelong have kept on their list for far too long who would be eligible.

Nakia Cockatoo has played 34 games in 4 seasons but in reality has only spent enough time on the ground, uninjured, to make up 8 full games, so surely he must be eligible too?

They should introduce a fading star award - best player over 250 games and 30 years of age

or would it be worst player?

This is a tremendous idea.

Two versions:

a) Mofra style worst player award

b) Srs - a Veteran's award type thing. I like it.

You mean the "Whichever team gets drawn Gold Coast later in the season gets to steal the Coleman off Ben Brown award?"

But yes, the Danny Frawley Award would be great.

I mean, after a suitable period of respect, Richmond fans can start calling for it to be renamed the Alex Rance award For Defending Good And Stuff.

Surely it must be named after a Hawthorn defender. We have the Leigh Matthews trophy for the league MVP, the Michael Tuck medal for something (he couldn't even remember himself when awarding it) and the Gary Ayres Award for player of the finals series. How about the Alle De Wolde necklace?

...says the West Coast supporters who feels the need to make repeated comments on EVERY Richmond thread. 6 comments in this thread in the first 4 pages for example.

It’s like you’re obsessed with the Tiges mate

Everyone can agree that JCG is trolling— why do you need to mention Tim Kelly??

I can't even be bothered.

Michael Tuck BOG in the pre-season cup GF no?

Nah, Spud Frawley Defender award sounds great.

Not only should he be eligible to win it I think that we should change the name of the award to the "Marlion Pickett Rising Star award" from now henceforth to commemorate him winning this years award prior to a ball being kicked.:moustache::footy:
As I mentioned earlier we should lose the "Rising Star" part of the award perhaps we could expand on your
idea and go with the "Marlion Pickett Impact and Excellence Award"

Should've been changed 2 years ago when Tim Kelly debuted...

Exactly, and Liam Anthony before him.

Either it is for a young player, so ditch the games played requirement.

Or it is for blokes new to the league, so ditch the age requirement.

Doesn't Ben Brown play against Gold Coast?

The year Riewoldt won it, we had to play them in a monsoon in Rd1 when they were full of hope.

Junktime Jack gets them late in the season on a perfect day when they were broken already.

Jack has won it 3 times my friend.

You realise there are 21 other games during the season where BB can fill his boots? Or does he need to rely on playing the spooners a couple times in pristine conditions to win it?

No, but Junktime did.
