Was on for a bit this evening and was great (as usual). Interestingly, he said a few of the players wanted to come out and say a few things during that turbulent November but were advised not to just in case the cards didn't fall their way. He then added that luckily they did in the end so we can all move on happily (or words to that effect). You wonder where our good friend got her information.

Among other things, the skipper also said the most important thing from the players' perspective is seeing the new facility started. (I know I share that view - once that kicks off, I reckon even the most sceptical supporter will be convinced we're in for the long haul).

He also sounded rather buoyant that JB was the real deal. He said that in the past we've had people work really hard for us but JB's media presence and success in a pretty tough industry really gave him a massive edge over anyone who's been in his position in the past.

Very understated but very professional and very North Melbourne is our skipper.

I was thinking the same thing.

What has happened to Cow-ro these days?

Maybe it's just my experience, but since the re-location issue arose, I've come across far more North supporters. Despite Brayshaw's win and the membership numbers generated, there are still some who are still skeptical.

It'll be a memorable day when that first sod of soil is turned over. And the great thing about Brayshaw is that you'll know he'll make sure the media run with the story.

Exactly what I have said in a previous thread. We need to SEE the redevelopment happening. After what the ground has been for a number of years to the ridicule of certain journo's, it's going to be a massive confidence booster to all supporters and members when we see a great facility being built at NORTH MELBOURNE.

Big news story. He'll have everybody down there. Maybe he should get Arch on a signing table again.

BTW, nice to see someone who isn't a bloody Arsenal supporter. Glory, glory.

Yes, I heard Simmo too and I thought he spoke very well. He said that the players wanted to express an opinion on the relocation issue but if they had backed the wrong side, they could have ended up with egg on their faces. In the end, he said, they got the outcome they wanted anyway! :thumbsu: And, like windsock, I immediately thought of that Wilson woman. I'm sure she said that all the players wanted to move to the GC (for the warmer climate, if I recall correctly ).

I think this is great info talked by Simmo.

Knocked the issue dead on the head that the players wanted to go and work on their tans. Also re-confirms that many people at the club were told not to speak publicly on the GC issue... something the ignorant have criticised us for.

I thought 'the lying bitch' then I wondered if Cow-ro had said it as a fact or qualified it with 'sources' and 'the Age believes' based on what she was told by one of the Vichy or one of the AFL bully boys.

She's either a bloody liar or a bloody poor excuse for a journalist for too readily believing what she wanted to hear.

This is the article in question

Pressure builds on Kangaroos to move or lose funding

And here is the money quote
Ironically, the club's players and coaching staff, including Dean Laidley, are understood to strongly support the relocation in the belief they would no longer be forced to operate using relatively substandard training conditions.
I tell you what, I'm not letting The Age get away with this. The relocation battle may be won but there is no reason why Caro should go unpunished for the lies she wrote about North.

I'm sure she also wrote that the players were wanting to go there for the warmer climate.

I think she is both.

You're right, the twisted vixen mentioned that nonsense here...

Laidley stands firm

While Laidley still does not know for sure the details surrounding the potential relocation, our understanding is that a significant number of the Kangaroos' playing and coaching staff would welcome the move. And why not? Guaranteed untold AFL assistance, ultimately vastly improved facilities, a warmer climate and — potentially — draft concessions.

Didn't Robert Walls once say Arch would enthusiastically support a move north because he'd like having the Gold Coast sun on his back as he trained each day?

Well if thats the case Robert then why dont they move the Roos to Darwin. They can have alot of Top End sun on them 24/7.

Im offended that I share the same first name as this clown.

Simmo was the first player to speak out about the Gold Coast.

Remember his comments after Arch broke the games record? Something about not being able to transfer what this club has here in Melbourne up to the Gold Coast.

It was the start of something and gained momentum when Arch had a crack at the Grand Final breakfast, but don't forget our captain was the first player to actually say what we were thinking.

I love Simmo.

I remember him saying that as well.

When all the debate was going on about whether North would stay in Canberra or play some games on the GC, I heard Simmo on the radio say that he hoped we would stay in Canberra because he knew that a club that put their hand up for GC games would be in the gun to relocate there. How right he was!

I think every North Melbourne supporter new that:rolleyes:

Not wanting to denigrate other AFL captains, but there,s none that can hold a candle to Adam Simpson
Terribly underated as a player(and a person) by most AFL supporters --------------- except us!:thumbsu:

He really isn't that great a player, but I'm sure his leadership and role-modeling is great for the younger blokes.

If this bloke had Wellsy's foot skills he'd be an absolute superstar. As it it stands, he's a dual premiership player, one of the smartest footballers going around, and a champion bloke.

I seriously doubt that there has been a better leader off the field at Arden St in 20 years.

Didn't Robert Walls once say Arch would enthusiastically support a move north because he'd like having the Gold Coast sun on his back as he trained each day?

I think this was very early in the season and Walls was suggesting we should already be up there. As I recall, the implication was that in Arch's last campaign, given that he was going to be playing in a wooden spoon team, at least he could enjoy the sunshine to ease himself into retirement. So in hindsight, Walls' remarkable miscalculations would be like making a golden duck in both innings' of a test.

He really isn't that great a player.....

Personally, I was okay with the Captain of our team finishing 7th overall in the league for Disposals, and 10th overall in the league for Tackles, for the 2007 season. To be honest, how he is perceived in relative terms doesn't really interest me one iota. A contribution like that tends to speak for itself.
