Announced at the end of 2021, this was the plan by 2025.

We're on track to fail all of these objectives, practically impossible to achieve them all by the end of next season.

No premierships and no top four finishes for either team, the average crowd size at home is 46,950 and membership numbers as of July 10 was 61,168.

"Fremantle has announced an ambitious five-year plan, aiming to become one of the powerhouses of the competition by 2025.

In that timespan, the Dockers want to win flags in both the AFL and AFLW competitions and average a crowd size of 50,000 for the former and 6,000 for the latter.

At least ONE AFL & AFLW premiership (two premierships)
At least THREE top four finishes in the AFL & AFLW

Freo wants a base of 80,000 members and rank in the top three for sponsorship and advertising revenue."

I haven't really heard anyone at the club address this since it was boldly presented and what are the repercussions of failure.

Pending a miracle, Simon Garlick can not be at the club after next season.

Wouldn't it be 2026 ?

We lost players like Cerra and gained Amiss.

We lost Hogan, but now Treacy has become a beast, making the most of the new opportunities.

Schultz left, now we are about to use that currency on Bolton.

We have pushed our window back, but I'm sure our window will now be longer and better than it would hsve been if things hadn't changed.

Haha fk off. Someone makes bold objectives and doesn't meet them = they should be sacked. GTFO.

His tenure is the same as Longmuir, who has consistently felt the pressure of job security and has only been extended to the end of 2025. I don't know how this is an extreme statement to suggest someone in the same organisation, who will likely fail to meet all the benchmarks that were set, is immune from the same fate.

The board should own the five year plan, surely? I think he's done some clever things in the last year - orchestrated the sidelining of Bell and the one year contract extension for the coach was smart business.
The big test will be what he and the board do if we fail to make finals in two weeks, which surely was the entire rationale behind both those moves, to give the coach every chance to make it without distractions?

The key words in that are "aim" and "want". They never said it was actually going to happen. Don't invest in the small cap end of the stock market if you thought this statement from the board actually meant something more than fluff and hype.

Welcome to the world of strategic planning. Multiple studies have shown approximately 65-70% of strategic plans are not delivered in full and almost half fail to deliver any discernible change.

Strategic plans are not typically commitments, they are aspirations. CEOs are rarely removed if a strategic plan fails because there's always extenuating circumstances.

As the Exec Director for Strategy at a multi-billion $ organisation who has just launched a new strategic plan - I'd be delighted if we achieve half the things in our strategy (as would all key stakeholders).

That said, I would comment the Freo strat plan was well publicised and the targets were perhaps naively front and centre of all the announcements.

Also worth stating that the dates on strat plans are always inclusive - so this plan takes us to the end of 2025, not the start.

In my industry, some of the best people I have ever worked with often set long term plans they never reached or took on KPIs that were never met.

I've also worked with some absolute oxygen thieves who avoided any target like the plague and managed to scurry around, avoiding the spotlight, and ultimately achieving nothing.

I understand how impatient most Freo fans are, deservedly so, given our underperformance over 30 years.

But, the key is understanding that this regime and group of players are not the same as previous and deserve time to ready themselves for their own attack at the crown.

It's going to be far more enjoyable for supporters to compartmentalise historical failings and get on board with this group.

It amazes me that so many followers ,supporters, member of our club, that want success, deride the club for having a vision for the future.
Some are still living in the dim dark ages.
AND, it is not a plan that belongs to Simon Garlick, it is a plan that was set by the club, the Board and everyone involved in the running of the club. The players were, and I am sure still are, on board with it as well.

So WE have till the end of next year.
And you post this now??

FMD the threads that pop up on this place after a couple of close losses 🙄

If you want to make this thread - wait until the end of the season and make your case - it just comes across as reactive tripe otherwise. We’re currently 6th on the ladder
Well i guess you can add to it in a couple of weeks.

I'm as negative and pessimistic as the next guy but jeez, we have a whole off season to wield the pitchforks. Why the f*** are we so keen on starting early with all these negative threads when there's still the chance we make finals?

Potting a CEO for an ambitious five year plan he doesn't actually have too much control over is quite disingenuous. The organisation as a whole is pointing in the right direction, I'd say a large majority of the decisions that have been in our power to control have been positive ones and we've got a long time of a premiership window to come. From an organisational point of view we're doing fine. The issues we have are more on an individual level and even that is more a consequence of maturity and injury.

Take a look at Essendon. They can't even win a final since the fans are out for blood because it has been so long. That pressure builds on the players and the second they drop off, the fans explode. Are the fans contributing to their failure?

We don't want to become like that, we need to trust that we are improving and that we have a fantastic base to press our claim soon.

With regards to how we are tracking against some of those targets:

- Our 15-6-1 record in 2022 saw us half a game outside of the top 4, and with a record that would have seen us in the top 4 in four of the last five years (ignoring 2020 due to Covid). This is a great example of why some of these targets are outside of our control. In 2022 we had what would normally be a top 4 record and missed out on top 4 by effectively 1 behind with the Pies beating the Blues by a point in the last couple of minutes.

- We may be short on the 80,000 members, but this season we have the fourth highest average attendance - above Richmond, West Coast, Adelaide and Sydney; and only 3,000 below the target set in the plan. Our average attendance exceeds the capacity at Subi Oval - and we would often not sell out Subi even in the 2013/2014/2015 seasons. Our average attendance this year is also 17,000 higher than in 2021 when the plan was set and we have increased our average attendance every year.

I think it's also fair to say that having our AFLW side fall off a cliff two seasons ago has seriously undermined the targets because they were probably banking on one flag and a couple of top 4 finishes from the women's team as easy wins for the strategy (because that would have just left the mens team the need to get one top four finish and a flag).
