Now is probably a good time to assess the Gold Coast's loyalty to the Suns. So far this year they've had:

R2 v Saints: 13,649
R5 v Lions: 12,464
R6 v Crows: 12,464

The slightly higher crowd for the Saints game can be explained by it being the first home game of the season. The QClash has never been a massive crowd puller on the Gold Coast so combine that with the fact that both teams were winless at the time and you have your answer for that one. As we know, the Suns are currently sitting at 1-5. Surprisingly enough, it appears the fans are ditching the team, at least not yet. Gold Coast sports fans have historically turned on their team pretty quickly when they aren't living up to expectations but the stats so far appear to paint a picture that it hasn't happened to the Suns yet. So what about the rest of the season? These are their remaining opponents at Metricon:

R8 v Magpies (3)
R10 v Swans (4)
R11 v Dockers (1)
R14 v Kangaroos (9)
R16 v Giants (6)
R18 v Eagles (2)
R21 v Bombers (11)
R22 v Power (10)

I've added the current ladder position in brackets. You can see the Suns host all of the current top 4 teams later this year as well as 4 other teams placed between 6-11. So in terms of seeing the best players/teams in the AFL, there is no issue there. Collingwood and Essendon traditionally pull big crowds on the Gold Coast regardless of ladder positions and Sydney pulled a massive crowd last year. Port, Freo, West and GWS usually pull average crowds, similar to the ones that have already occurred this year. The only team that consistently seems to pull a poor crowd at Carrara is North Melbourne. Probably has something to do with the Kangas turning their back on the Gold Coast public back in the day.

So there seems to be a loyal core of around 11k that will go to any Suns game, regardless of the team's performance. Not bad for a team that entered the league less than 5 years ago and only has a market of 500k to work with.

Has anyone been following the titans negotiations to play home games in Rockhampton over the last week? It looks very similar to the kangas initial Gold Coast deal where they played three home games up here and basically used us as a cash cow to stay afloat financially. It seems like that is happening with the titans now as they become more convinced that they aren't financially viable on the Gold Coast alone. At least not in the current climate. My understanding is that it is also partly to do with them trying to gain some leverage on stadiums Queensland to cut a better deal at Robina. They can do that in rocky because the ground is owned by the leagues club and not stadiums qld. It's a pretty big free kick for us though because the guy negotiating the deal wants four home games up there. That would mean just eight titans home games on the Gold Coast each year.

Nate Myles the captain of the Titans has signed to play for Manly next year , wonder how we all would feel if our captain signed elsewhere after rd.8 . They have a bizarre system NRL.

I'm still shell shocked by the attendance tonight. The club is seriously in turmoil. What sort of ****ing moron would declare a reserve seat only event for a game that quite clearly wasn't going to sell out? It wasn't announced until after the season started, and we all know HOW our season stated.

It was just a ****ing cash grab that in return pissed off our GA members and alienated half the casual supporters who like their cheap tickets.

16,000 against collingwood - the biggest game of the season.

****ing pathetic.

I believe they made the same mistake when Metricon hosted its first QClash and their first clash against Carlton. The following year both fixtures were no longer reserve seat only.

It was a pathetic turn up tonight. No doubt.

No-one other than us hardcore wingnuts are turning up for that shit

People need to anticipate a contest, even if they are reasonable hard core fans, it is very easy to find something else to do if you think your team is going to get flogged

In hindsight McKenna should still be there, that gamble has not worked, the GC Suns have to find a way to win or go close to it on their own dunghill, then the fans will come.

The GC has IMO a bright future, good stadium, good list and a growing area of grass roots footy and base of fans, just needs to do better on the paddock.

What is it with you Westies and Mckenna?
He's directly responsib;e for where we are as a Club today
There's not too many yardsticks available, but we were arguably more competitive against a much much better WCE in Perth a couple of weeks agao with maybe the worst team we've ever fielded than the meek gutless effort we put up against them AT HOME with a much better Suns team in the final round last year
So
Just to clarify
Last game last year
Worse Eagles team
Better Suns team (on paper)
At home
This year
Worst Suns team EVER
Very good Eagles team
In Perth
Better effort by The Suns

I can do it again if you're having trouble

Couldn't find a better loyal hard working bloke IMO.

The board gambled on coaches and got it wrong, that much is pretty clear.

My view obviously is from the outside, but that is how it looks to me.

You're wrong
Being a good bloke doesn't win games of footy
Eade is a superior coach
Full stop

You're wrong

ATM the stats and body language of the players of a team apparently on the up doesn't bare that out

Being a good bloke doesn't win games of footy
Eade is a superior coach
Full stop

I never said being a good bloke does win football games, i said he is loyal and hardworking

Proof is in the pudding, Eade has not galvinised the players like the board thought he would, ATM it is looking very much like a blue.

I might add i love to watch your club play the running brand of football that they can play and have played in the last couple of years, where is it this year, where is the spirit.

Titans just released a new special:
2 games for $25 - for the next 2 home games at CBus.
$12.50 entry is pretty damn cheap.
Yet the Suns have sole rights to Metricon and you'll never see anything even remotely close to that price.
